January 2015

I have been there into the first few days of January the past 2 years. We had mixed results. In 2013, we had a couple of very cold days (around 40 in the mornings) but we had coats and hats so it wasn't bad. We liked not sweating! Warmed up during the days, and dry weather. You needed a sweatshirt/jeans at night. Last January, wasn't as cold, but it was very rainy. I had only bought mesh type shoes and they were quickly soaked :sad1: I wish I had brought some sturdier shoes. I was actually stuffing paper napkins into my shoes to try and dry them out! So I would advise layers, hats and coats just in case, and shoes that will stay dry! The rest is up to luck pixiedust:

You must have missed Jan 7, 2014. High of 47. Felt colder. Night before we prepared by raiding the cold weather section at Walmart and it was pretty looted. There were Brazilians all over the store looking for cold weather gear. I actually explained to a couple what thermal underwear was. Lucked out finding the last wool hat and mitts for my son (Mickey Mouse on em too, he loved em). Jan 7 AK was dead. We had a blast!

I was hoping to leave the hats, mits and winter coats in the van in Detroit. I guess I better think of bringing some stuff next year with us.

We were at AK too that Tuesday! I remember 39 degrees that morning. Coming from The Northeast and having drove we had all of our winter gear with us. I remember waiting in the line for our pre-opening ADR at Tusker House and it was cold. The park was empty that day you are correct!! IT was really nice :)

We went back on Saturday to do the Safari again since some animals were not out and about that day.

Yes, we were gone by then. But the year before, we arrived to temps in the 40s the first couple of days. I was in MK with my down coat, hat, scarf, and mittens, and I was so comfy! I saw people walking around in shorts and sandals, I felt bad for them! I have never been there when it was so cold.

Always bring cold weather clothes that time of year. You never know!

You'll love 'Ohana. I advise checking in for that dinner reservation early, as it is near the time the restaurant opens, and the line for the check-in desk can get quite long.

heh We were in Tusker House for lunch. Few guests. Lots of attention from the characters! Grats on being prepared! Never occurred to us it might be that cold.

And amen Eastern, amen.

packages were released on the WDW website today!!! Yay for accurate rack rate pricing!!! Now, just waiting for discounts...

1st of Oct for DV card holders, public to follow!

I went ahead and made my reservations today with the hope of applying a discount when the DV offers come out (assuming they do). I've been assured that I can do that but I'm still nervous I won't be able to apply the discount and keep my current room. I'm running the Goofy Challenge so I'll be there and staying at the Polynesian since it was cheaper than what was available at the Contemporary and we wanted to be on the monorail this trip to spend lots of MK time with small kids. Hopefully the construction is done by then and the weather doesn't get too cold. :)

We have reservations at Beach Club for Jan.8-13. I read that discount codes usually don't come out until Oct. Do they always have deals or is it something they could not do? Also, all the deals with deluxe 30 or 35%?

Thanks!!

FYI - I rec'd an email from *** for discounts Jan 1-Jan 11, if anyone's looking for that time frame. Cut and pasted below.

You can look up historical discounts on mouse savers. 30-35% discount has not always been offered. Sometimes more or sometimes less. Sometimes free dining, sometimes stay, play, and dine. In 2010, we snagged a great special- pay for 4 nights, get 3 nights free. That was a DEAL!!!
