January 2014 discount watch!!

Emmebelle - I understand the "locked in" / OCD thing, but that's what trip insurance is for ;)

I didn't think about trip insurance, that probably would take off the stress of what if we couldn't travel because of some kind of emergency.

I've bought travel insurance before, but usually just for a cruise. ;

and it was definitely cheaper when we rented points. :thumbsup2

I rented points for this upcoming January and no matter what kind of deal Disney may offer I'm still going to come out ahead. I compared what I'm paying for a 7 day split AKL Kidani Savannah View/BCV stay with Dining Plan to the "Stay, Play & Dine Plan" and I'm saving $1,200 for the week! Even if they offer a great room only discount, I'll still be ahead.

explain for me if you would? I did everything and I find FD saves me the most or PSD at a mod (since hubby prefers TS or QS). BUT I have three kids (ages 5,6 and 2). I would love to rent and stay ahead but I find 11 nights at a 1 bedroom DVC with TS costs me well over $ 7000. Any advice well accepted! :flower3:

Hi! New to DIS boards... From some of the past posts here it appears that placing a deposit may increase PINs? We are looking at a trip in early (jan / feb / mar) 2014 but waiting to see if any discounts will come out - is booking a date possibly going to help us get a PIN? We've always gotten a few a year but the past 6 months my email hasn't had any pixie dust...

When we booked our first trip in August 2011 for our trip in January 2012, we placed the initial deposit down and then two weeks later I received a PIN.

It was a terrible offer compared to the free dining plan at the time.

Thx. I think we will go ahead & book - other threads seem to indicate some decent PINs coming out the past week or so & since free dining for our dates is unlikely a RO or good PIN is our hope...

Judy, I compare apples to apples when I figure my savings. We wanted Deluxe Vill Resorts at the best possible price, so that's what I'm comparing to, not dropping down to a mod. My family is me, DW & 9 year old DD

If you look at just Kidani Savannah View alone right now for the time I'm staying, WDW is publishing $507.37 per night (x 7 = $3,551.59), which is probably the rack rate you will pay for FD. By renting points my nightly rate averaged out to about $210 per night (x 7 = $1,470). <$2,081.59 savings>

Next, I purchased 5 day Hopper passes through Undercover Tourist ($1,006.44 vs. WDW price of $1,091.63 which you would have to pay with FD)<$85.19 savings>

Finally, we are the Basic Dining plan for all of us at full price ($950.40), but I'm paying with gift cards I got at Target at a 5% discount, so $905.73 really. So my total for a week is $1,470 room + $1,006.44 tix + $905.73 DP = $3,382.17, which is lower than just the rack rate of the room we're getting.

I hope this helps. :)

Hmm never thought of that, but makes sense as we had a deposit down last year for this past January (2013), and ended up with a free dining pin! Doesn't hurt!

My motto: come hell or high water, I'm going to WDW!

I am making sure I keep myself and my little sister healthy. We are eating well, exercising and taking our vitamins. We just need to get more sleep!

Did you call and ask if you had a pin or was it emailed to you?

Ours have always come via email. I only recently learned to call & ask about PIN codes

How do you rent points to do this ? We would love to stay at AKL villa with a savannah view in 2014 but because of the cost we are thinking we will have to do Moderate. We found it will cost us 3500 for the room and tickets without dining. If we could do what you did I'd be so estatic !

I actually caught a cold last January while we were in Disney, but it certainly didn't keep me in the room. :thumbsup2 There's something about Disney that I'm able to rally. :rotfl2:

I rented through Daves Disney vacation club, everything was easy, you do pay for the room in advance, so that may not be for everyone. You can just check out the site, you put in your dates and it will show you all the different DVC options and the cost. :thumbsup2

What exactly is the stay, play, dine offer?

You pay rack rate (full price) for the room but are charged children's prices for the dining plan and park tickets. It can save some families a lot of money, especially if the family has a lot of adults on the reservation. It isn't as good a deal as free dining, but for some people it saves more money than a room discount.

Are the adults able to purchase the Disney Deluxe Dining Plan at the children's cost.

DVC owners also rent their points on this website -DVC -Rent/Trade Board. I rented from two renters last year and again this year. No problems. It's not as secure as David's but if you do your homework on the renter it's cheaper.

No.
If you stay at a value, you need pay the child's price for QSDP + the difference between the adult DxDP and the QSDP.

If you are staying at a moderate or Deluxe, you need to pay the child's price for the DDP + the difference between the adult DxDP and the DDP.

Does that make sense?

Here's the math:

Staying at a value
$15.75 + (104 - 39.64) = $80.11

Staying at a Moderate/Deluxe
$20 + (104 - 58.66) = $65.34

So even at a moderate you get the kids price of a QS not kids price on the "standard" dining? Or are you saying you'd have to pay to upgrade from standard to deluxe
