January 2013 car rental

Thank you for the heads up~!

Just rebooked Alamo FullSize - 9 nights - Jan26-Feb4
Insiders ID and Visa Coupon
$167 all fee's included [down from just under $200 previously]

Still hoping for a similar rate for a mid size SUV but at this point I am happy with going with a Fullsize for this price!!

Excellent news everyone!

Just an FYI. I used my Alamo insider code, the Visa coupon and the SW id. Standard car 1/24 - 2/2 $159!!!

Happy savings!

I tried the SWA code and the $30 off Visa coupon, and logging in under my Alamo Insiders and also got $159 for 01/04-01/13 that's interesting as its almost like its stacking the promo codes... Good catch!

I'm not sure there is any stacking going on, but it's not clear with Alamo's new site. Used to be that if you logged in with Alamo Insider, it just applied the Contract Code 7015305. So if you entered another code, e.g. Costco or SW, it just replaced the Insider code. I think it still does that.

As an example, I tried looking up my dates (1/10-1/15) first with no discounts, then logged in as an Insider. The price dropped because my Insider discount was applied--but it did not show up in the Contract Code field. When I then checked with SW contract code or the AP contract code, it didn't change the price--but it did indicate that this was the contract code being used. When I entered the Costco code, I got a better price, and again it showed this was the contract code.

Of course, the bottom line for me is that the prices are still not as cheap as I expect for that time period! Still nothing under ~$200 before taxes.

After going higher, my dates came down again this evening at Alamo. Signed in my insider acct, using the visa $30 coupon and code, we've got a premium at $175.

Anybody else not loving the new Alamo site? It seems to be harder to change the codes. I'm having the hardest time trying to change contract ids. Can't even find the place to log out of my insider account. It wasn't like this the other day. Any help? :confused3

If you go to the "Edit" page for the search, next to the Contract Code you can select "Remove" and it will take that code off.

That worked for me before, but it's not working for me now. I can change the coupon code, but, the VISA is locked in and there's no remove next to it. Maybe it's just me!

Thanks for your help, though!

Please, can you tell me if visa is any visa card or only disney visa?

I just booked Premium car (Nissan Maxima or similar) pickup and return at MCO from 1/10 to 1/15 for $160.61 (with all taxes and the insider status should mean this includes an extra driver) using my Alamo Insiders and the VISA promo code (AD2338FDF).

That's $9 more than my previous reservation for a compact car pickup at the Car Care Center. I'll pay $9 to grab it right at the airport.

Here's the catch though: when I tried to book on the new website (which I hate!) it said that the website couldn't validate the coupon code. I confirmed that it was valid on the VISA site and called Alamo customer service. I sat on hold for about 5 minutes, but they did help me book the reservation at the $160 rate.

This is still $100 more than I paid for rental from Alamo during marathon weekend last year, but it's the best deal I've found so far.

I cannot get a descent rate for the life of me. I need Jan 4 - Jan 12, one week and one day and the best I can get is around $224 for a compact.

I have logged in, used the insiders code, 7015135, and the $30 off coupon, AD2338FDF, and this rate is for a compact.

Just not going to pay that. I do have a Costco rate of $173.17 for an intermediate rate, but I would like to get it down from that, and you guys seem to be getting better rates by going directly to the Alamo site.

Do the rates come and go and I am just not trying at the right time?

I know you were able to get the coupon to work by calling them, but, if it happens again, try starting over and reenter all your info again. The same thing happened to me yesterday. I was able to get it to accept the coupon once I started over.

Rwethereyet-

I actually got a slightly higher rate than you did (times entered?). Just keep trying. Maybe they will still go down for you? Good luck.

Just got $149 for a midsize, from Jan 4 (6:30pm) to Jan 13 (4:30PM). Logged in using my Alamo Insiders ID and password, under coupon used the Visa $30 off code AD2338FDF and used the SWA Contact ID which is 7015932. SWA contact ID is open to ANY SWA Rapids Rewards Member, so you just have to become a member which is free. Even if you don't, honestly I have rented through Alamo for about the last 6-7 years, and have never been asked for proof of anything.

Unless your dead set on Alamo, Dollar has come down somewhat over the last week, I got a premium (Crown Vic) for $30 less than Alamo's Full Size using the City Special button. I almost always get a better deal at Alamo, but for some reason they are not the best deal right now.

Update - Just dropped Premium rental at Dollar down by $20 by using Promo Code "Kiss" which is available to everyone. Also I tried OCVB corp code oi1054 and it dropped Mini Vans by $30 and Premium SUV by $500 below the City Special price.

I am sure there are those that have had good experiences with Dollar, but Dollar is about the only rental car company I will absolutly not rent from under any circumstances. Twice I have rented a car from them, and been charged for pre-existing damage. It is for this reason I STRONGLY recommend going over the car you rent and note any pre-existing damage. One charge was $200 and one was $800.

I was also cautious the first time I reused Alamo, as I had one bad experience with them about 15 years ago (not a charge, but more like waiting 2 hours to get a car), but I have never had a problem since then, and I LOVE their check in kiosk's! You can easily walk up, scan your rental agreement, pick your car and be on your way. For me, I am willing to pay a bit more to not have to give up time waiting in a rental car queue.

Alamo seems to have a good mix between good price and good experiences, which is why I usually end up with them. In the past I rented from Hertz and National pretty much exclusively but they are quite a bit more then Alamo, and price is still important so... I find you just have to find a good balance.
