I searched on priceline today for a rental car from Jan 3-9 and Avis and Budget came up $179 for standard size....best price I was finding was $300 ish... Alamo and National are still $550 plus.

I did not use any coupon codes or any discounts.
I reserved it thru priceline, did not have to pay upfront.

Might be worth checking there if your still looking.

Yes, I believe you do need to use your visa.

I am getting over $800 for a minivan for 9 days with Alamo on the Costco site. What am I doing wrong?

I am seeing around $400-$500 with various Alamo codes, For Jan 4 - Jan 13. I am not overly concerned (though I think if it goes down to the $200 range I will probably book), in the past discounted rates have always been the best around 21 days out, With various other times being extremely high. Don't worry to much, I think we will be ok.

I am under 21 days right now and Alamo is not coming down. At least not yet. I have reservations with Budget just in case. Beginning to doubt Alamo and national will drop to something within reason.

Other than the "here today, gone tomorrow" deal I got at Dollar, the most reasonable rates I have seen for my trip (1/10-1/15) are Dollar with the oi1054 corporate code.

I don't think they are down. It's crazy how much they are charging for a car rental.
