January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

Hi guys! Nice to see a "dedicated" thread just to snowbirds. I am one of those wacko's who loves the cold weather and snow (I'm a skier) and so going to Disney when it is cool and less crowded would always be my choice (although I'd never pass up a Disney vacation any time of year) given the choice.

If it warms up to 72 during the day, in the heated pools (we are pretty hardy) would you say we would be able to take a dip in the pool during the height of the day?
Thanks in advance!

I would say YES!! Especially if it's sunny! I'm with you!

It's -20 this morning. Yup, that's actual temps. Apparently the windchills were -40. No school, so I'm staying home since we don't have daycare today. We're going to watch Disney movies!! YAY! The high is supposed to be -5, so I don't think we'll venture out. DH had to work - he's a mailman! Thank goodness he drives a truck and not walk! I can remember one time way back before we were married that he did not have to deliver the mail, but I can't remember if it was b/c of cold or snow. So much for the motto, Through wind, rain sleet, ... We'll see if he has to deliver today. I'm worried about the truck not starting!

Absolutely! We have been able to swim at least a few days during our last two January trips. There may even be a few mild nights you could swim as well (but, then again we are crazy Upstate Snow Birds ;)).

Wow, I don't feel so bad now. It was "only" 0 this morning with -10 windchill. The coldest we're supposed to get is tonight/tomorrow at -15 (-25 with the windchill). You guys stay warm and enjoy those Disney Movies!:)

 :cool1: :yay: :yay: CONGRATS to those hitting single digits!!! I am coming right behind you!! YIKES!

party: party: :jumping1:

I think we'll be trying on summer clothes today - how ironic on the coldest day in 5 YEARS!!

Good morning Snowbirds!

Well we had a 2 hour delay for low temps. It was still only 3 degrees when we went to the bus stop at 9:15. I don't know what it would have been at normal time of 7:15. Either way, I'm sure wind chills are well below normal.

Congrats to everyone hitting single digits today!!!!! :cool1: :woohoo: :yay:  :dance3: :cheer2: :grouphug:

Oops, I never put my return date...........I am there from 24-31..........
Thanks for adding me to the list Momof2boys...............hey, I am the mom of two (Disney) boys as well. It's a great adventure.

No problem! :thumbsup2 It sure is an adventure with 2 boys!! :rotfl: But a great one! :goodvibes How old are your boys?

Good morning Snowbirds! :cool1: :cool1:

Thanks for the ideas on autograph pens. :thumbsup2 I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Drakes, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty...hope she's OK! We just lost our long-time family cat in September, so I can relate. Please keep us posted. Here is some pixie dust for her, and you! pixiedust: :cat:

Has anyone heard from Remmy lately? I don't think she's been around here...hope everything is OK!

And finally...everyone leaving in the next few days, have a GREAT TRIP! :dance3: :dance3:   :cheer2: :cheer2:

Morning Snowbirds!

Drakes- so sorry to hear about your Kitty! Hope he's well soon!

I've been wondering about Remmy too. Perhaps she's too busy getting ready for Disney!

I got most of my stuff packed and organized yesterday...just need to add the last minute stuff: clothes I'll wash the day before and toiletries and such. dh looked at the pile I have going in dd room and said "hope it all fits!":lmao: The kids made my hubby a birthday poster to surprise him with while we're down there...it's so cute we decorated it with Disney stickers.

Last night we got out the home video of our trip in 2004 when ds was only 6 months old- it was so precious seeing him so little and sleeping through half of the attractions. He loved seeing himself as a baby but he kept asking where his sister was. He didn't seem to get it that she wasn't even a glimmer in our eye at that point! I'm so excited this time that they are a little older and really will enjoy Disney...and hopefully not sleep through it!

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes We have 8 days left!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Our kitty got home at 12:30 am today... she was happy to be home and her old self. Poor girl, the abscess is quite large. it's going to heal as an open wound, as suturing it up will only cause it to swell more.
She devoured some food took her medicine and was her usual self this morning. She is a solitary cat, but has really become quite vocal since our dog died in October.
DD was happy to wake up and see her back at home. Poor DD losing 2 pets in a matter of a few months would be devastating and she was convinced because the cat was at the vet she was going to die, because the dog did. :sad1:

So I think my ticker says how many hours until departure :scared1: Counting down the hours !!!

I just printed out my boarding pass - I am within 24 hours of escaping this ridiculous weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are SOOOOO lucky (we're in MA, too) and it is so darn cold here that I can't stand it!

One week from today, we will hopefully have already checked in at POR and be at DHS for some fun, and our Fantasmic Dinner Package reservation at Hollywood and Vine.

Have a wonderful trip and hopefully the weather down there will start rising, too!

Great pictures!! I love your Snowbird tag. It's so cute!

So I went to the crocs store here today and I was able to exchange DD's Minnie Janes. He carried that style and was able to help me (had to get pink instead of black, but I'm sure she won't mind). As for mine, he doesn't carry Baja's so I got Athen's. The Baja's were a 7 and a little small so I moved up to an 8. Of course I didn't try them on there and now they look too big. I guess there's quite a difference between the 2 styles. Now I don't know what to do!! I now have 2 pairs of crocs flip flops. I have to make up my mind. I have to either send back the baja's or return the athens. The crocs store is about 20-25 miles away and there's no fast way to get there. Decisions, decisions......So frustrating!

Glad to here your kitty is okay. Our DS had this same feeling when we took our new kitty to the vet to be fixed! We had just lost our 15/yo dog. Of course, in the next breath (as only a 5 year old can do) asked that if something happens to Kitty, can we get another pet, like a parrot!! :lmao:

Okay, it's -5 outside (actual temperature) and I'm ready to be at Disney!!!

I have to share my funny (not really) story with you. So, I'm putting laundry away last night and said to my DH and DS, "daddy's job this weekend is to pick out his clothes and put them with the other stuff to be packed." My DH says, why are you in such a hurry, we have plenty of time! :scared1: You know what, if he doesn't have clothes to wear at Disney that's his fault. Okay, I don't think any of us are ready for that! Guess he'll have to be happy with what I pack him! :rotfl:

Drakes-I'm so happy that your kitty is ok. We have 2 cats and I don't know what I would do if anything happened to either one of them! About a year ago, our female cat, Mocha, had some sort of mass under her tongue. They did a biopsy on it and had to keep her overnight. My DD and I cried the whole way home because we were so worried she was sick. Everything ended up ok though. Our cats are like our DD's siblings!

No problem! :thumbsup2 It sure is an adventure with 2 boys!! :rotfl: But a great one! :goodvibes How old are your boys?

My boys are 12 (7 1/2 weeks and he is a teenager~at least that is what he told me this morning) :lmao: and a 14 1/2 year old. Oh my the time just flew by. I miss when they were young. They are cool teenagers now. :worship: :worship:
But thank goodness they are just like their mom and would rather be at WDW or Disneyland than any other place.
Enjoy your boys right now, they are at an awesome age!
Btw, they are Adorable!!!!
