January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

Thanks everyone! I think we are going to try OHana breakfast instead of Chef Mickey's. Since Mickey Mouse will be there, I'm happy. That was my main concern. We are going to do it on our last morning before we leave town and I wanted Belle to see Mickey one more time before we left. She all of a sudden is very interested in Lilo. (Maybe because she's a little girl, too? Maybe because our dogs are Lulu and Lola and Lilo sounds like them? Who knows.....)

She asked me this morning - "i go see lee-lah and titch at disney?" The idea clicked and I thought it sounded like fun.

I think it would be an excellent choice!

We did Ohana for breakfast and Chef Mickeys for dinner on our last day- we need our fill of the Mouse - thanks to Disney Deluxe Dining!
What I liked the most was after breakfast we walked around the Poly and took some great photos at the beach!

I think Belle will love seeing Lilo! and yes Stitch was very small!

BTW.... Can I get some quick prayers? We have an offer on the townhouse. I'm just wanting to give in and get it over with, but G is being very stern about it.

It's a really sweet, young fireman and his fiance'. I just want to give them the house so they have a great place to start off their marriage.:goodvibes

Exciting News! I am sure you won't have any trouble selling it.
I would be like you and wanting to give young couple that opportunity!
Pixie Dust and Positive Thoughts are being sent!

Sure thing girlie! We will pray for you today!! So, are you moving? Or is this an extra property? Now is a good time to have things on the market(at least where you and I live!) Schools are almost out, so families like to move over the summer, and young couples getting married after graduation need somewhere to go!!! Let us know!!!!

Hi everyone. We're 36 days away from my birthday trip! I'm so excited!:yay: I'm so happy that May and the beginning of June are always busy times for me. It's making time FLY by!!! But, I need to put my happiness on hold for a few days. My grandfather passed away on Thursday. We're heading into Syracuse today for the wake and the funeral is tomorrow morning. It's been a difficult couple of days, but I'm getting through it. Anyways...I hope that you all have a terrific Tuesday and a wonderful Wednesday! :goodvibes Be back in a few days.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Has anyone ever done the breakfast at O'Hana? Can you give me details?

We did it in January. I wasn't disappointed or overly thrilled. I realized during our trip that I really do much better with the face characters. I think it would have been entirely different if we had kids with us there, instead I had to satisfy myself with watching other people's kids interact with the characters.
The food was very good, and I definitely prefer Family Style to Buffet, because you don't have to worry about missing the characters while you're getting your food.
I think Belle will love being able to see Go Go, Lee-lah, and Titch all at the same time.

Absolutely my friend!!!! Hope it all goes well!! Let us know!!!!

Okay so I was just about to ask what in the world the 90 + 10 days ADR system meant, but I see that was already answered so let me make sure I have this right...because I have two reservations...so I can make for my first reservation 2 nights at SSR starting 9/26 starting 6/26 or 10days prior?? as long as the dates of my reservation fall into the 90 plus 10 days???? So I could actually call starting on 6/16 or am I thinking backwards?????

Now for my second reservation with my friend Paula I have decided to let her do it all cuz its her points and she probably knows the system better than me so I'm so not going to worry about it but if you guys could let me know if my thinking is right on the above situation because that means I need to start thinking where I want to eat at...HELP LOL!!!!

I just got my Bachelor's in Sociology (assuming I passed my classes)
I plan to eventually get a Master's in Library Science. I probably should have went ahead and applied for the Fall, especially since I'm planning on getting it entirely online, but I feel like I need a break from school for a bit.

Becca--where are you planning to do you MLS? It's something I've thought about doing for quite a while (is that a strange combination with a BS in math?) Last time I looked into it, maybe three years ago, I couldn't find anywhere that was completely online. I might think about starting it while we're overseas.

You can make your ADR's for a trip starting 9/26 on 6/28. Here is the calculator http://pscalculator.net/allearsnet/pscalcae.php

No, you can't make them 10 days prior to that. The 90+10 day rule means that you don't have to call 90 days prior to each day of your trip. You only have to call once - on 6/28 and you can make all of your ADR's for your entire trip even though the second day of your trip is actually 91 days out, and the third day is actually 92 days, and so on. . . Does that make sense?

Go to ala.org and you can do a search where you can look at accredited completely online programs.

I'm pretty sure I want to do it through the University of Alabama, because they don't charge extra for out-of-state. The way I figured it, it would be a little over $10,000 for the whole program (I still think that's a bit low, but if it's not then yay!)
The major problem I've run into with the University of Alabama is they only accept applications for online participants for Fall semesters, which meant if I had wanted to begin this Fall I would have had to have my application (including GRE scores) in by the middle of April. The other schools offer admissions more often, but they're all more expensive, and many still charge out-of-state tuition.
Definitely look into it a little more... the only problem I could see for your doing it while overseas is if they have chats, then you'll probably have to "attend" them at weird hours.

I just did the search again and there are 14 schools that offer entirely online programs.

I don't know if that link will work for you, but it should take you to the list, if it does.

Yes it does...thank you and I will make sure Paula knows what day she will need to call to make our ADRs for the rest of the trip LOL!!!

THANK YOU for your help Mama Snowbird! I'm feeling a bit more confident now!! Only to figure out where I want to eat now LOL! I'm definitely thinking Les Chefs that has to be one of my most favorite restaurants on property.

Ok... so I don't think the link will work. The American Library Association website is surprisingly slow. I would think it would be the fastest site ever, considering the people using it are very into research.

Also, I don't think Math would be a bad pre-Bachelor's. I think my inclination towards the organization of math is what lead me to be interested in the first place.
I decided I wanted to do Library Science a few years ago when I realized how much I enjoy doing research papers. It's fun for me to help others find information they need as well.

Perhaps we can get a Snowbird group discount for our Master's in library Science! :lmao: I just started doing the research a few months back for mine too! I have a BS in ECED and am looking to get mine in School Library Media.

Soleil- good luck with getting rid of the bachelor pad. It sounds like you've found the perfect couple to buy it.

Meghan- I'm sorry to hear about you Grandfather. Travel safely and hugs!

All this talk of ADR's! We're still debating whether or not to do the DDP. It's lots of food for us and we are picky. Last time we did the QSDDP and I think it was worth it. We probably would have spent that much OOP and we got more food. This next trip is a budget trip so I think sit down meals may be out for this go round.

I'm considering School Library Media, but I haven't decided yet. I think I'll just start taking classes and see how those go before I pick a focus.

I wish we were staying on property so we could do the DDP, but instead I'll just have to be content with 3 table service meals, and counter service to fill all the rest.

Has anyone ever done the breakfast at O'Hana? Can you give me details?
We just did it on 2/1 and really enjoyed it. Stitch was really funny and he and Pluto were really interactive. The kids enjoyed the parade around too. I really liked the food. Of course, if there are Mickey waffles, I'm happy! DH loved the potatoes!! It was nice having family style since we were with my MIL and SIL who don't walk too good, so they could just sit and be served. ANd the juice, oh the juice!!! We also had it at Donald's breakfast and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! I keep looking for something similar at the grocery store, but no luck.

Best wishes and pixiedust: It's so thougthful of you to think about them that way!! I hope it all goes the way you want!

I totally forgot about the juice! We had it at both places as well. I just wish they'd give me a whole pitcher to enjoy at my leisure.

Or a container to take with me! I bought a container of tropical fruit recently and blended it and it ALMOST tasted like that juice. Not quite, so I guess I have to go back to the Poly to get it! :)

Kim, have you figured up how much your meals would be with and without the ddp? With your kids being under 10, it may be cheaper for you to do it. It's only $11 (I think) per kid, per day. They get one table, one counter and one snack with that. Most of the meals at counter are that much, tables are for sure, so it would give you the other meal and snack for free. And that snack can be a bottle of water, or ice cream or whatever. Just wanted to tell you that when I had 2 on there, it was great.I was kinda iffy on doing it this year, since Kipper just turned 10. I wasn't sure if he would eat enough to justify the jump in price. but, the value for the rest of us outweighs it. And, next time we go, he'll probably be happy to get off that kid menu:rotfl: He has done it forever!!!

This is my concern as well. DD will be 10 and I know she can't wait to get off the kids menu either! :rotfl: But the jump in price for a tiny stomached 10 year old! I am telling myself it is worth it.

OK, changing topics here. Question for all you Southwest fliers -

I booked my flight on SW, got a great price (price has already increased $20!). If the price drops, I know SW will give me a credit. Do I have to watch and ask for the credit, or do they notify me and send it automatically?

Thanks!

You have to watch and then change your flight if/when a new lower price comes out. You will have to actually cancel your existing flight and rebook the same flight at the lower price and then you will be credited the difference, and the credit has to be used within one year of the day you originally booked the flight.
