January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part IV !!!

Hey, everybody! I was away for the holiday without internet access - oh no! :scared1: But we had a good time. A bit craxy with two toddlers and two dogs along with everybody else, but it was one of the first holidays where everybody was there. I was certainly thankful for that! :cloud9:

We didn't go shopping on Black Friday - I really don't have anything specific to buy. D got a big birthday/Chanukah combo give (expensive!) so she's getting the rest of her gifts at Disney! And we may not see anyone over Chanukah, depending on work schedules, so we're not buying anything now. It may be a small holiday this year. And that's just fine.

Re: Backlot Tour - I wonder if they're really "refurbishing" it or closing it to make room for something else, like they removed so much for the Lights . . . show. While I liked it because I'm a big movie fan, I can live without it. I liked it when it was longer. I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the Great Movie Ride! popcorn::

I got my packets today! And the DME tags!  The only weird thing was that it said I had the WPM option on my tickets. :scared1: Never ordered it, don't want to pay to for it! So I called and they said it was a mistake. Consider me relieved! :rolleyes1

Hope everyone has a great night!

Hello Snowbirds, I will be making my 1st Jan. trip Jan 11-14. My sister will be meeting me at my happy place to celebrate my 40th birthday. We will be staying at AKV. I will be flying away from all the snow in MI. We are actually under a winter storm warning right now. I am anxiously awaiting my ME documents, I will have to forward my sisters to her in New York. I will be suscribing to this thread. Have a great week.
:welcome: to the Snowbirds!

What a great way to celebrate your big birthday! I just turned 40 (gulp) and wish I could have spent it there. Oh well, better late than never right? It's always nice to get away from winter weather! I'm getting to the point where I can't spend a whole winter in MN! The only two winters out of the past 9 that I've stayed here were the two winters I was pregnant (I have March babies) and that was hard!!

I can't manage a whole MI winter either. We average over 100 inches of snow and we are on pace to go way over that. I had a Jan. baby and also March babies. No fun inside with babies all day. Now they are bigger I just get the snow clothes on and send them all outside.

I am very excited to celebrate my birthday at my second home and with my sister. We have never traveled together alone with out our families. It should be fun. She let me do all the planning. She just wanted to show up, that works for me.

I just wrote myself a note! And then after I fold laundry I'll set up the DVR right away!!:lmao: If I remember, I'll try to post on here to remind everyone!
I too will try to remind everyone. If you have not seen it, dont miss it.
It is great!

Alright my feathered friends. I'm off to happy dream land. Everyone have a great Monday (yeah that feels like an oxymoron :rotfl: ).

And just think, it's December now.... :woohoo:

I am so excited! We can officially say the we are going to Disney next month! My ticker is really moving fast now!!

Mornin' Snowbirds.

I forgot to tell you guys. My big brother asked me yesterday if I wanted to start training with him to run the marathon in two years. I am so excited and nervous. I have a lot of work to do before then.

Hmm. . . maybe it was longer prior to 2005??? It has always been the same since we started going then. Starts out with the little skit at the beginning (that's what DH was in) and then you load onto the ride and it goes through several different scenes and the costume shop and catastrophe canyon. . . Well either way, I am pretty bummed it will be closed!!

Has anyone checked the rehabs the last few days? I haven't. I'm afraid! :scared1:

Shelly - the Backlot Tour used to be SO MUCH more! It's really sad now. The Studios used to be working studios, so on the backlot tour you'd go through some of the studios. They also had an area to see the props of current films - We went once when the feature was 101 Dalmations - the "live" film. We were able to see a lot of the props used to make the move and got to participate in some of the "stunts". They had some Imagineers there that you could ask questions. You also used to go down a "street" with a bunch of house that were used in various shows - one being the Golden Girls. I bet the ride has been shorted by 20-25 minutes! The skit at the beginning has always been there, although I think that's been changed, too.

Well good luck!! With hard work and dedication you'll do great!! I'm envious because I know I could never run a marathon!

I'm feeling a bit better today, glad the next two days will be slower days at work, I don't see kids until after lunch because of practice standardized tests. I'm going to be making study guides, powerpoints, and tests for the next two days that will help me make it until the end of the semester. The very scary thing is that the semester is over on the 19th...that is 18 days away....and if you don't count weekends...WOW that leaves me 10 days to get my kids ready for EXAMS...ooohhhh...I'm nervous for them LOL

On top of that I have our church cantada coming up and I missed a practice because I wasnt feeling well LOL!! So that is coming up on the 14th...things are moving way too fast ...LOL

Good Morning Snowbirds,

I woke up to a beautiful winter wonderland! Too bad I have to go out in it and there is a sheet of ice underneath. It does look very pretty.

Happy December! We are now all one month away from our vacations. This will be an exciting month of many holiday celebrations and much vacation preparations that will be done. I am looking forward to it very much. I remember in August how time seemed to go along at a snail's pace now it seems to be running ahead of me!

I wish everyone a safe and healthy day.:flower3:

Remmy

Our local school has declared a "snow day" as Mother Nature dumped close to 8 inches of snow overnight. So, I'm here:surfweb: sitting home with them...even though I don't have to be. My DH has the day off of work, but my cold is terrible. Once my DH gets our driveway plowed and the roads look a little better, then I might call a doctor and see if it's just a cold or worse. Until then, I will be :surfweb: and relaxing. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Just wanted to remind ya'll that I do have that Christmas shopping thread!! For those who haven't read it yet, come on over & lets talk about what we bought/are buying for family/friends this year!!!!

Oooh, link, please? :)

(That reminds me, I should maybe pull the turkey out of my sig file!)

I'm back - I never had chance to check in on DIS all weekend- I'm glad it was quiet here. I was dreading the pages and pages of reading I'd need to do to keep up!

We left for IL to visit the ILs (heehee) on Thursday morning and made awesome time. The hotel then let us check in 4 (!!!) hours early, so we were able to drop off our stuff and freshen up before heading to the aunt and uncle's house. Between the sinuses and the surgery, I didn't eat a lot (though I still gained two pounds - betcha I ate unhealthy foods!), but it was a very nice trip.

Is it terrible of me to say that it was probably a very nice trip because we stayed in a hotel instead of on someone's floor? It was nice to have a comfy bed and a private bath to use, that's for sure!! My BIL invited us to stay at his (small) townhouse, but I declined, since their three week old baby is up, screaming, every two hours.

We did go out on Black Friday and bought a PS3, Guitar Hero, AND LEGO Star Wars (which is a lot of fun, but made me motion sick - who knew!!). That was our Christmas present to ourselves... until my F&MIL decided to pay for the PS3. That was very VERY generous of them!

We drove home on Saturday and that was a decent ride, too. The DH then immediately set up the PS3 and we started playing games - just what I need! Another hobby!!!

I think I'm about 95% recovered from surgery now. I couldn't drive on the way out, because it hurt, but I could on the way home. I can carry stuff, but I can't carry a lot of heavy stuff. I can wear most of my pants, but not a pair of Lee jeans I have (that have an unusual fitted waist). And better yet - it appears that I can have dairy again without getting ill! WOOHOO!

We set up our Christmas tree yesterday, along with all the indoor decor. I was hoping to get up the outdoor stuff, but our 4pm snow started at noon. But instead of 5-7", I think we're going to end up with about 3, so it's not all bad.

Anyway, when it was snowing, I went out and took pictures of the tree. Here's one of my favorites:

Next year, DH wants to put the tree somewhere WE can see it, rather than somewhere everyone who drives down our street can. I told him that was fine but then we have to put outside lights up!!

In honor of putting up our Christmas trees, I finally started shopping. Okay, so it was all online. But I got my aunt, uncle, my mom's cousin, my SIL, and half my brother's shopping all done. Then, putting up the tree, we found the gifts for my cousin and his wife. Whew!!

And here's my new countdown!!

Today: Grant deadline!
Tomorrow: Eeek I'm sitting on a committee with some bigwigs!
Thursday: lunch with a friend before we break for Christmas
Friday: hockey game (and a charity drive - we get to throw stuffed animals on the ice for charity. So I went to Kohls and bought their plush animals that they donate a portion of the proceeds to charity - win/win!)
Saturday: holiday party with friends
12/10: department holiday party
12/16: staff holiday party/post-op appointment (alas, there is no booze at this staff party, which would make the post-op more fun!)
12/24: last day of work for 8 days!
12/25: Christmas!
12/26: post-Christmas bargains!
12/28: Mom birthday
12/31: MIL birthday/New Year's
1/2: back to work
1/4: I'm 32!
1/9: HELLLLLLLO Disney!

That means I have 39 days!
:cheer2: :dance3: :cool1:

Okay, sorry, long post!

good morning snowbirds, I made it through the longest weekend in retail! I am glad to say that i have two days until my birthday and forty until disney!

:santa: :goodvibes Good Morning Snowbirds! It's DECEMBER!!! :goodvibes :santa:

Now we can all say that we are going to Disney NEXT MONTH!!! :cool1:
And some of our Snowbird friends are even leaving this month!

Wow I can't believe some of you got so much snow! It's just starting to snow here again. Hopefully it won't amount to much.

That must have been before my Disney days! :rotfl: Sounds like it was awesome. I'm sure we would have really liked it considering that we like it the way it is now!! :goodvibes I'll have to dig up some pictures of DH in the skit/stunt at the beginning of it!

Hello everyone! I didn't get a chance to Dis yesterday. I had the World's Largest Disco! We had practice in the morning, I had to run some errands and then the disco was at 8pm. We always do two dances on the big stage they have there. Well, we did one that my friends choreographed and then we got to dance on stage with the Brady Bunch! Well, the three boys and the woman who played Cindy. It was awesome! We danced to "Sunshine Day" and did some "authentic" Brady moves. Amazing!

WOW - I would be in awe! I grew up with the Brady Bunch. Even DD loves them. Did you get to wear cool 70's clothes, with beads, fringe and headbands????? I've heard that they are all really nice.

Congratulations on the Disco night. Do you have any video you could post anywhere for us to see?

By the way, you didn't see this guy there, did you???:scared1:

:dancer:

Yep, that's what I remember, too. So, they don't go down the "street" anymore? I thought that was still in there - it's a shame. The tour used to be an honest backstage look at a studio, now it's just a tourist "mock-up" I guess. Just like the Hershey factory :sad2:

Remember when the Animation Studio was actually a working studio, too? We saw them work on Mulan and Lion King in real time there.
