January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part I !!!

I have a question for my fellow Snowbirds, too! It's a bit long, so brace yourselves...

Probably like a lot of you, I made my ADRs before the dining plan '09 deals were released. When I made my ADRs, the CM always asked, "Are you on a dining plan?" to which I always replied, "I will be, once the details are released!"

Then 2 days ago when I made an ADR for Chef Mickeys, the CM asked me again if we were on a dining plan, and I said we will be on the Deluxe Dining Plan, but we just haven't added the package to our booking yet. She said that she would add it to my reservation details.

Thinking about it, I'm a bit confused. Do I have to call back and get them to add the fact that we're on the Deluxe Dining Plan to all my other reservations?! Surely not. What difference does it make?

A month ago we were going in on the 26th which was the first day they stopped making ADRs. Couldn't they have waited one more week! So, the only one I could book was the Castle on the 31st. Since the 2009 dining plan hadn't been announced yet, I couldn't add it to my reservation. When I called to book the Castle dinner, since I wasn't on the dining plan, I had to pay for it up front. I'll get reimbursed once it's added to my reservations. Then, I called into DVC Member Services last Sunday to add the dining plan, and was told that it's not "official" yet and I would have to call back later in the month. I told them that the information was out on all the websites, but since it's not yet on DVC's website, I couldn't add it yet.
A few weeks ago we decided to drive instead of fly due to airlines instabilities (canceling flights right and left), and iffy January weather here in the midwest. We decided to go in a day earlier and called to add another night at WL (dedicated 2 bdrm), and none were available. They checked all the DVC resorts and only found ones at SSR and OKW. I booked the one night at SSR and was put on a waitlist for WL. Yesterday, my friend said that she could book a dedicated 2 bdrm at WL for that night, so I called DVC member services. First she told me that it still wasn't available. The reason my friend could book it was because DVC reserves 2% of the villas for cash customers. While I was on the phone with DVC, she checked again and the one night was now available.

When our TA made our room only ressie she told the CM that we would be making it a package w/dining once the prices were released. The CM said she would make a note on our ressie that we would be adding the dining plan after prices were released. Our TA did have to call and make it a package with dining and tickets.
So I think they are only making a *note* that you will be adding the dining plan, but you still need to call and add it on to your package. I don't know if they do that to track how many ts credits your using or not, b/c we didn't book any of our adr's, the concierge planning office did them all for us.

I picked up some Lime Green Mickey Heads at Home Depot yesterday -- now I feel like a real DISer!

And am getting a little worried that I haven't jumped through any hoops - from Disney's end at least.

Some of my WDW travelers are still on the fence about going or about how long they will stay when they get there!

Just your usual fast food type stuff. But it was all hot & fresh! Plus you can eat upstairs and it's less crowded up there and you can look out over Epcot!

Hey Momathome-we're in Grand Haven...we're practically neighbors! We'll be at AKV from the 21-28, so we'll be there at the same time. Oh, and I have a DD8 and DD6!

It is official I booked and paid the deposit for our 1/26=2/4 trip. Only 165 days and I am already going nuts. I could only make Chef Mickeys and the Cinderella castle ADR's so far. I have to call back in October.

I just peeked in on my DS. He is sound asleep with a Mickey Mouse under each arm. Did I teach him right or what?


Looks like there could be a chance that we may be adding one more to our trip in January. DH and I are going to become foster parents in hopes of eventually adopting. I would LOVE to create another Disney-aholic.
