January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part I !!!

Okay so I am planning a suprise trip for my husband in January. I have booked a room at the WL Club Level because last time we were there we got upgraded from standard view to club level and my husband said it was the best vacation he has ever had! IPO has made all of our reservations, arranged for special cakes and got me in touch with the Coral Reef to do the personalized menu and hopefully the diver. I am also going to arrange for him and our son to do some kind of fishing/boating thing but I havent figured that out yet, any ideas on that?? Okay so what I really need ideas on is how to surprise him with the trip? I called his boss yesterday and got the time off for the vacation approved (hopefully he keeps the surprise quiet). I dont know if I should just surprise him the night before, or that day....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to make this extra special for him since he works so hard for me and our son. :goodvibes

Yikes! My DH would absolutely FREAK OUT if I didn't tell him until the day before. There's no way he'd be able to leave his job for a week without getting things set ahead of time. So I guess it depends on your DH's job...if it's something he can just walk away from with no prep, I'd wait as long as I could. But my DH would want at least a week to prepare for being gone.

As far as fishing goes, I know CSR has fishing excursions, I would assume CBR does, too. We aren't really looking into them because DH fishes here all summer.

Good luck keeping everything hush-hush. Let us know what you decide!

Looks like right around 6:00 for the week we're there. I used earthtools.org. This site doesn't adjust for daylight savings time, and even though we use it here, I don't get it. I just turn my clock ahead or back when they tell me to, and I don't know if Florida does it. So I guess it could either be 5, 6, or 7 o'clock. Big help I am, huh? But they'd want it good and dark for Spectro, so my guess is that sunset is about 6:00 pm. There's gotta be an easier way to find out!!! :headache:

Yeah, I just wondered if it gets dark at like 4:30 like here or if maybe it's a little later since they actually see the sun in the winter! :lmao:

Maybe some of our experienced January-ers will know!

I was going to say the same thing about my DH, he would need AT LEAST a week to prepare for being gone from work. Maybe you should tell him at Christmas Ethansmommy!

I dont think my husband would need more than maybe a day to get everything in order at his job but I have never really thought about that?? I am going to have to ask him in a round about way if we decided to take a last minute vacation how much time he might need? Maybe I can plan to tell him on Christmas or New Years... Any ideas??

To answer the question of the day:

I am going to have to say crystal palace as well. They have such a variety of foods and an excellent selection of desserts. And isn't that what vacation is all about? Indulging your dreams? We actually plan on eating there twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch.

Now I don' t feel so bad, we have it booked twice, once for arrival dinner and then for breakfast, because we love our Pooh breakfast, all i need a plate of Pooh breakfast lasagne ! Yummy!!!!

Well, I can't answer since I haven't been to Disney in 17 years, and I never ate at anything other than fast food and I can't remember what those were anyway!;)

I am happy to read about the Crystal Palace! It's our first meal in any of the parks (we're doing O'Hana on arrival day) and I'm hoping it's a wonderful experience for our kids!:thumbsup2

I just had to laugh at this because if I were saying it out loud it would sound so funny "Pooh breakfast"... :lmao: it doesn't sound too appetizing does it?

You can't go wrong with CP! :tigger: I'm sure you will all have a wonderful time there and leave with your belly full! :goodvibes

WOW we are quite the chatty bunch of Snowbirds today!! :hyper2: I think we've been through 4-5 pages already!

But I must go tend to the family and make supper. Have a great night Snowbirds and I'll "see" you tomorrow! :magnify:

Did I read somewhere in these pages that MK doesn't have Wishes and Spectromagic every night? How do we find out? What about Illuminations and Fantasmic? We are thinking about Jan 24 - Feb 1, what do you all think about the last week? I cannot decide because my b-day is Jan 9 and I'm concerned about the marathon and ending during MLK, any advice?

Hi, Trissy~

On the WDW "official" calendar site, click on any given date's number and it will show you the activities for that date.

We are going Jan 9-17 ....... we're tied to those dates because DH is running the marathon.:)

Happy planning!:pixiedust:

I have a couples of questions that some of you might know the answers to:

1) When there are evening EMH at Epcot, does it go by the FW times (from 9-7 to 9-10) or the WS (from 11-9 to 11-12) times?

2) During evening EMH, are the counter service restaurants in Magic Kingdom open?
