January 2008 Code Watch

Sorry - new to all this though a HUGE Dis fan. Can anyone please help? What's a pin code? How do I get these discounts you all seem familiar with? I've been using Dis Travel for all my arrangements (they're so nice). Is this a mistake? Now planning 4th family trip in 2 years (just a quickie in January). I'd LOVE to save some $$$.

Postcard and E-mail Codes

For the past several years, Disney has regularly sent out masses of postcards (and more recently, e-mails) that offer deeply discounted Walt Disney World resort rates to the recipients. I can't publish those discounts, because Disney uses a PIN number system so that only the recipient can use the code. (When you call in with your PIN number, they match your name and address to it. You can't share the PIN with anyone else.)

How do you get on the lists for these special postcards and e-mails? No one knows exactly, and believe me, I've done a lot of research on it. It appears that Disney's marketing department uses a variety of lists at different times.

If you want to have the best possible chance of getting these mailings, it's definitely a good idea to register with Disney.com and be sure to click on the boxes that indicate you're interested in Walt Disney World. You might also want to go to DisneyWorld.com and request a vacation planning video. It also appears that they may use mailing lists from DisneyShopping.com, subscribers to Disney publications and Disney Rewards Visa card members. In short, sign up for anything Disney (especially Disney World related) you can, and keep your fingers crossed!

If you are a repeat resort guest and have already subscribed to a lot of Disney lists, it's possible you have received a discount e-mail but it went into your "spam" folder or was filtered out as junk mail by your e-mail provider. However, if you are in the Disney reservations system, the discount information should be associated with your name. For that reason, when you call the Disney Reservations Center to make room reservations, it's worthwhile to make a polite inquiry. You might say something like "Would you mind checking to see if I am on the list for any room discounts? I'm afraid I may have missed a promotional e-mail." Don't bother calling about this if you have never stayed on Disney property before -- you almost certainly won't be in the system.

OK is it bad that I am on the computer a zillion times a day, all in hopes that I will get the magical pin#!!!! Sometimes I think I may go nuts!! :rotfl:
And that I turn sooooo green when I see everyone posting that they got theres!!! :snooty:
I will do SUCH a happy dance IF I ever get a pin#.

Congrats on getting a pin -- I am still waiting for my first ever. I made a ressie about a month ago for January 16-23rd -- I wonder if I didn't get an email because I am already coming.

We booked at Pop -- 2 rooms for 7 nights but I would really like to upgrade to maybe PO Riverside or even to WL or AKL.

Only hope right now I guess is to look for AP rates or a public rate.

Fingers crossed....

I'm thinking the same thing. I got an E-mail about Nov/Dec. I then booked a room for the end of January, and did not get the latest E-mail.

same here. Although I had a *GREAT* CM. She looked everywhere she could think for possible discounts. At one point I thought I had one bcs she referred to my price as a 'discounted package' but it turned out to be the same price as available online.

Bummer!

when does the general codes come out ?

We were already booked and recieved the e-mail for the pin. We booked back in Oct.

This is the first e-mail pin code I have ever gotten and we have been 13 times in 15 years. I have called other times when batches of pin codes were e-mailed and never had one attached to my name but others have.:confused3 I don't know if anyone knows how they select who get them.

Don't loose heart in the last few years there have been codeN released late Oct. or early nov. for Jan and Feb package and room only. Just stay tuned to DIS boards. We try to help each other out.:goodvibes

For those of you not getting codes, I have no idea if this makes a difference or not, but I had signed up on Disney's website, and my profile tells them when I was planning my next vacation. It has said Jan 2008 since late 2006, and since the beginning of this year, they have been sending me pins (3 total), saying things like "Taylor family, you could come to Disney sooner than you think!" and stuff like that. I got some in the snail mail and some in an email from Disney Destinations. I was wondering if they wouldn't send me a code for the actual times I said I wanted to come because I had turned down their other offers (acutally, I called each time to price it out, but it was never really workable for us). But here it is, a Jan/Feb pin code, so maybe it is worth a try. Again, I have no real idea, perhaps it is always random, but it doesn't hurt to try!

I recieved the email. (My first ever pin code) My travel dates are Jan 19 - 23
Do you think they will let me apply this pin code since my dates are "in between" their dates??

Aren't those dates MLK weekend? I wouldn't be surprised for that to be a blackout period. You might get it if you were checking in during the first set of dates, and out during the second set of dates, but if your entire trip is in between, I'd say no.

Bad Omen, should have known!

I called this am to see if I could get a code for my exixting res. and when she put me on hold to check, "Poor Unfortunate Soul" was playing.

I knew right then it was over.

No Codes, no discounts, she said there was nothing better than the rack rate that I have at $376.88/nt!! OUCH!! at cr.

Maybe I should keep trying until I get "Zip a dee doo dah" while I'm on hold?

Whooo Hooo, I got a Pin Code!! :cool1: :cool1:   We are going Jan 14 - 19 and staying at Pop. Wednesday I call b/c I started seeing that some of ya'll were getting codes. I was told that I didn't have one attaced to my address. Then, a couple of hours later I got an email w/a Pin Code.   I called my DH as I was jumping up and down at work to let him know that I was calling and applying it. I was sure how it would work out b/c of the days they left out (18-20, MLK wkend). I ended up saving $217 :cool1: I checked the Disney website and it is including the 18th and 19th for me. I'm getting soooo excited, less than 90 days now!!! :cheer2: :dance3: :cheer2:

Hopefully they will start sending out more pin codes, good luck to those who haven't gotten one yet!!!

I got an e-mail from "DisneyParks" last night. This was me :cool1: for about two seconds until I opened it and it was just a link for me to create my virual dream vacation or something. My dream vacation includes a pin code! At least now I know they have my e-mail.

I used the Canadian code this morning. I saved about $245!! woohoo!

Well I am thinking something is wrong. It gave me free park hopper and waterpark upgrades.
I didn't have the waterpark option - just the park hopper option.
I am looking on the disney site and think she gave me 'too much' off. It should have been maybe $100 off for our park hopper option upgrades. The price she quoted is $245 off and I wonder if she accidentally downgraded us from our preferred room to standard at the Pop. I guess I will wait until our confirmation comes through via email so I can check it out.

Update - I just checked and we are still in our preferred room - I am not sure how the package went down so much - but it did and Im not complaining!

From what I've heard people say before, you probably got free park hoppers, free water parks, and a slight discount off your room rate.
