January 19,2008 / Eastern Magic / "The January Thaw Cruise"

I am still kicking the category type around tonight...actually stressing over it!! I started with category 9- now I am not sure. I think we would enjoy the open air but the verandah makes me a little nervous with a 3 year old.

Any thoughts??:confused3

By the way...I was just reading about how many people are celebrating their anniversary- We are celebrating 10 years!!!!

I say get the balcony if you can. Your three year old can't get outside without you because of the locks and it will be a nice place to relax when she is napping!

Just subscribing!!

I am calling in the morning to book the January 19 cruise!

It is me, DH, DD7 and DD 3!!! My husband and I have cruised before but my daughter's have not!!

We had to cancel our vacation this summer and now have a lot of points to use!!

I just cannot wait!!!:cool1:
Welcome vbarry:cheer2:
Will add you family to the list:yay: :woohoo: :cool1:

Welcome to the January Thaw VBarry !:cool1:

So how is everyone? I havent been on the DIS for a while, the kids have been on winter break from school and we have been celebrating liberation day so have had lots of memorials etc to attend the last couple of weeks.

I honestly cant believe how quickly the time is flying by, one moment we have got over nine months to wait and in the blink of an eye we are down to 7 months Woooo Hoooo!!!!

I havent heard yet from Cathy about prices for our vow renewal, has anybody else had an email or phone call off her? I thought I would hear something last week, but Disney must be having a delay on releasing prices for 2008? :confused3

Winter break?? I had to do a double take at that one....:lmao: We are sweating our you know whatsies off here in NC...

I think we may have lost VBarry already, based on what I read on another thread, all though I may be wrong.

I now officially have a senior in HS, he got his report card, passed everything(including the dreaded Biology) with nothing lower then a 96. And on top of it we had senior pictures done as well. Then on top of DD getting married and orders to Alaska, eldest DS is going back to college to get his degree in Communications at ECU, on top of working at nights for the Dept of Corrections and as a part time bouncer. Man, i feel so old....

Welcome aboard.....don't worry about the veranda, we had one with our son who was 4 at the time and there were no issues at all....of course you have to watch them :rotfl2:

Also, congrats an the anniversary....there seems to be alot of that going around.

I haven't heard from Cathy either....so today, after lunch, I plan on giving her a call. She said she would be in contact mid-June....well, it is now late June and I'm on it!! ;)

I don't know how to multi-quote like in some of the other threads. I guess that will be one more thing to learn.

Cheryl, looks like there will be a small pack o' 12ish year old boys for your Jake to hang out with! I know our son had a great time palling around with other boys his age from the DISboard and the club on board. We haven't told him about this vacation yet, but as the time draws nearer, we'll let him in on it and give him the website for the kids board so he can catch up!

Looking forward to it!

God bless you,

Sherry

Sherry, actually the 12 year old is a friend of mine's son....She is GreatWhite.... and we have a group of others with a total of kids ranging from 12-4 so we do have an array. :yay: The more the merrier I always say...as long as we have separate cabins. :thumbsup2 Also, my SIL just booked for herself and her daughter (8 y.o.). :cheer2:

Have a great day!!

ATTENTION ALL VOW RENEWAL COUPLES

I got an e-mail back from Cathy and she said the cost has stayed the same, $ 1,500 but it will be about another month before they actually release the book to her to "book" the dates and attach them to our cruise. :cool1: So we are psyched that the money stayed the same!!!!!!

Happy day to all our fellow sailors!!!

I’m new to this message board stuff, but I wanted join in the fun. I won’t be posting much as my only access to a computer is at work. :headache:

I will be traveling with my DH and DS. DS will be 5 at the time we sail. This will be our first cruise ever, and we figured, what the heck, let’s just make it a 7-night Disney Cruise. We just booked about 3 weeks ago and have a Cat. 12 reserved. We are hoping for an upgrade. A little bit about us: I have a major travel bug, my DH is a laid-back, quiet type, and my DS is a “social butterfly”. If DS stays this way, he will have no trouble wanting to play in the Kids Club giving mommy and daddy some quiet, adult time ;) . Thanks for all the info. I’ve been picking up along the way, and I’m hoping to participate as much and as sneaky as possible.

Thanks for the welcome. I like that -- "January Thaw Cruise" because we are really looking forward to leaving cold Pennsylvania in January and arriving in nice warm weather!

Welcome! Our DD will be 5 as well. It's our second cruise - first on the Magic - and the *only* thing she wanted to do on our 4-night last april was play in the club! She's not quite the social butterfly we'd like her to be, and she didn't know anyone there, but she still had a ball!

Be sure to come to the meet on the first day so we can get the kids together - our DD's always a little more comfortable if she knows some other kids already. There's at least one other 5yo girl as well.

Only 203 more days!!!

Amanda

Amanda,

Sounds great about getting the kids to meet. When is "the meet"? Although this will be our first cruise, we've done a lot of trips to Punta Cana resorts. Unfortunately, there weren't too many kids DS's age, and those that were there, were mainly european. He was still comfortable enough to play with them anyway, even with the language barrier. So this will be great for him to be able to actual speak to the kids he's playing with!:thumbsup2

That's the idea! My daughter can be a bit shy, but if she's met some kids before hand, hopefully she'll be more comfortable!

I'm not sure if we've nailed down the meet time yet - I haven't read the first few pages of this thread in forever! It'll probably be sometime the first day, between lunch and muster. On our 4 night in April, it was scheduled for 3pm in the Promenade Lounge, which was a good thing because it was rainy and noone really wanted to be outside!

On another note, here I am working on my door sign already... Anyone else have any thoughts on theirs? :)

Amanda

So as a newbie to cruising and a relative newbie to the Dis. What do I need to be aware of for a cruise with Dis friends :-) ?

I gather there will be a meet on the first day which will be cool. Is there anything that I need to prepare in advance for that?

I will have to make some door decorations. OMG - need to find my creative side for that...

Do I need a fish extender? Heard about it, still haven't worked out what it is for. But hey - I'll just go with the flow.

Any other important things us newbies should know about?

I am soooo excited. I was looking through the photos of the day thread (:surfweb: boy that is long!) and saw some awesome photos. Have I got my work cut out for me getting nice photos from all the cool spots. That got me even more excited. Then reading a thread on the most memorable things on the cruise and that just brought tears to my eyes...

I have my flights on hold now :yay: - we will be flying in a couple of days early and out a couple of days later. Had to do that to get good flight times with our airline points. Need to work out what to do before and after the cruise, but that is not too big of a deal. I think I want to do something special the day we disembark as that is our actual anniversary date. Maybe I can try and stay at our home near Disney and get a fireworks cruise for that night. Hmmm, theres a thought!

Happy 4th July to all our US members.

-Kay

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone had a safe and terrific 4th of July. It was very quiet here, we went over to the newlyweds, had a cookout and watched the fireworks on base. It made me sad to think this time next year our daughter will be in Alaska. Sounds like it may be time to look into a vacation there.

Things here are quiet, we are trying to get our group to decide on a shirt style so I can start making them. I haven't thought about magnets yet, all though I did get magnetic paper at Walmart the other day.

Boredom has set in, so I decided to renovate the living room, den and laundry room all at the same time. I must be insane. The house is a disaster, so I had to step away and spend some time on the computer. We are also fencing in the back yard, but got a fence company to do that, but a trip to Lowes brought home a truck bed full of plants, trees and shrubs to be put in this weekend, and DH was eyeing self contained ponds/waterfalls. I snickered and walked away. He is also extending our patio(we put it in 3 years ago after watching one of the home improvement shows that make it look easy) so it will look nice once its done, its just getting there that is killing me.

I don't think we have decided on a time or place for the meet. LAst year we had it on deck 10, but it was July and it was HOT. But I would say maybe we should have it indoors. Anyone have any ideas?

The Promenade Lounge on the Wonder was fine for our meet in April, but I'm not sure the group was this big! It didn't seem like it at least. I can't really think of anyplace else that might be available/open, though. The only other place I can think of is Deck 9 near one of the pools, which at least won't be HOT in January. :)

Amanda

We are fond of the VERY back of the ship on deck nine. It is usually where we watch the ship sail away (too loud at the sail away party! I know....We are LAME!). It is usually pretty quiet, there are tables and some shade too! :) Probably won't be TOO hot in January, though.

The last time we went in Jan. we had our meet on Deck 10, wasn't really hot at all. Another option would be to meet in front of Sailor Mickey on Deck 3, after the 4:00 muster drill, maybe we could get a group photo in front of the statue?

Brett

You tell us where to be and we will be there. We have a pretty big group ourselves, so I am the designated coordinator of these types of thing. ;)

Have a great weekend.

Cheryl

Another item off the list:woohoo: .....got the airline tickets today, almost $300.00 less:scared1: than the last time we went! Same airline, same schedule, go figure.
