January 19,2008 / Eastern Magic / "The January Thaw Cruise"

The coolest thing about that place is that you can get your drink and shop your way down the street. No open containers rules there!

If anyone who is a first timer is interested, you can actually order the Guavaberry at their website.

www.guavaberry.com

They also have a recipe for the Guavaberry Colada. It is yummy. I think it could actually rival the Konk Cooler from Castaway Cay and that is one of the best fru-fru drinks that i have ever had.

Guavaberry Colada. Put ice in blender, add 2oz Sint Maarten Guavaberry, 1oz Cream of Coconut, 3oz pineapple pieces or juice. Blend well. Garnish with pineapple, toasted coconut & fresh nutmeg.

Wow, between the recipe and the link, I am ready for a drink....and its only 10 AM....I am definately going to have to try one when we get there.
Konk Koolers are my all time favorite vacation drink!!

Kay, WOW O WOW:scared1: thats a huge price jump for the renewal!. Even though the island is beautiful, thats almost the cost of another cruise. My vote would be for Palo, or Deck 7. Especially at sunset. I am cluess on the cake, unless you order a celebrations cake from the website, and hopefully get it delivered on another day. Same with the flowers. Maybe you could call DCL directly, or if you are using a TA maybe they could help.

Kay, I agree with Beth...that is a huge jump. I have heard that deck 7 is great, and I got the Passporter's Guide to DCL out of my library and they had pointed out a few hidden areas. I will get it out and tell you what they are at lunch today.

Kay Im sorry you didnt get your oboard renewal, I think the price tag for a CC renewal is scandalous! :scared1:

I'm sure DCL would be able to arrange a cake/champers flowers for you with no problem at all, people are always celerating birthdays etc on board arent they? I'm sure if you spoke to shutters they could do something about a photographer for you aswell. If not - well I'm no proffesional but would be more than happy to take snaps of you! Our renewal isnt a big family thing either, neither was our wedding, it was just the 2 of us on the beach and it was lovely :cloud9:

If I can help out in anyway at all just let me know

I know, Kay, you should do it on the beach on CC, :bride: the adults only area....(unless you have a child, I can't remember) and we could all come and be there with you. You could have any person who owns a boat, technically they are a ship's captain, do a little ditty, and then we can all toast you at the bar that is right there. I am a youth minister at my church, so I could also do something. (and I won't charge you $3500) We, who have kids, could put them in the kids club on the beach in the morning so that we could be there for you......ooooo it could be just splendid!! :woohoo:

Does anyone on this "Thaw" cruise have a suite? Maybe Kay could renew her vows on your suite's verandah & you could host the reception that the concierge could plan! :rolleyes1 I would offer, but I am in a lowly Cat 12 Guarantee...

I was just on the phone with Southwest regarding a credit that I have which needs to be used by September. They are mailing me a certificate good until March! That is almost $500 for my flights! However, he also mentioned that they are releasing more dates on 6/28 - but they are only going to 1/16/08! Aggghhh!

I was hoping to book my flight so we could then book our car rentals! This is very frustrating to be so close and yet so far...

Ohhh there are some lovely ideas here to help kay out, the CC idea sounds lovely, I think Kay has 2 kids? so I'm sure she would like them to be there so maybe not the adult beach but I'm sure there most be some other quiet areas and drinks at the beach bar afterwards, sounds bliss!

If I had a cat 3 I would gladly let you use it, but sadly I dont, I would have loved to book a cat 3 but didnt have the option to do so - they are all fully booked. (side issue here - is there anyway to go on a wait list incase any of the current cat 3'ers dont cruise for some reason?)

Secret deck seven sounds like a good place - beautiful at sunset I would imagine? and probably a quiet time to have the ceremony as others are getting ready for shows/dinner etc

Kay - I know you are originally from the UK, I am going back to the UK in October to visit family - is there anything 'english' you would like me to pick up for you when I'm there that you would like to have for your ceremony? I cant think of anything off hand, but if there is something from home that you cant get in the US and would like me to pick up for you drop me a pm

Of course it is only going to go until the 16th. We were booking a trip once and had to book the flight down, and then wait a month until they released the next set of dates to book the flight home!!!!:sad2: It is very frustrating to have to not have the plans set in stone.

Great idea for the suite, but I like you, am not booked in one. Although, the thought of it is grand....maybe next time.

Cat. 6 here......I would love to get a Cat 3 but Dh said no. I know you can be waitlisted for one though, just contact who you booked through to be waitlisted. They usually open up right around the time the final payment is due.

I like the idea of deck 7 at sunset.....ok...now you guys have me wanting to do a renewal too....

We have late seating for dinner.....anyone else?

We unfortunatley have the late seating...not good with a 6 and 4 year old. We are waitlisted for early.

Late seating, waitlisted for early.

I think Hannah can deal with the late seating...she just probably won't be eating with us. I would get her food earlier at one of the other places or have her eat on the buffet with the club (parents can sit with their kids during dinner if the kids eat with the club). Then she can play in the club while we eat the late dinner. Or she can come in and have desert while we eat.

We're in a Cat 11. I'm cheap. ;) But with another cruise on June 1/08 we had to go cheaper for this one.

Jim

We are late seating aswell, but this doesnt bother us so much, I dont mind if the kids want to skip eating with us and have room service or something with the kids club. I guess Steve & I wont make all of the evening meals either, maybe a couple of nights we will eat early at the blanket buffet place with the kids, watch whatever show is on and then have the rest of the evening free instead of sitting through a lengthy dinner. If we make it to dinner we make it, no worries if we dont though, plenty of other places to get fed on board right? :thumbsup2

I am in a lowly Cat 12 Guarantee...

Just an FYI to jsheridan and anyone else booked in Cat 12. I booked a Cat 12 Guar in Jan. for the 4 of us. I noticed last week that the rates had gone down a little on the DCL website, so I told our TA and we got a reduction of about $200 total.

We just checked, the upper cat. isn't any different. :sad2:

Is it just me, or does the search option on this board stink!!??!!??:confused3

I am trying to find, and I know I can't be the first to think of this, how the shuttle works from the disney resort. If use points to stay the day before at OKW, (vs using money that could be better spent on the cruise itself :cool1: ) how would the shuttle service work. Have any of you done this/

I may call DVC tomorrow to see if they will shuttle and if there is a 2 bedroom open for the night before.

Have a great night.

OK, how it worked for us back in 2005 when we went from the resort to the port, etc...

Magical express(or whatever they were calling it then) to the resort(no charge) the day before.
We paid for round trip transfers through DCL that took us from the resort to the port, then after the cruise from the port to the airport.

They even picked up our bags for us from the resort room.

Hope this helped...
Today was the last day of school:banana:
tomorrow we go to apply for our passports...then off to the beach for the weekend!!!

OK, I just noticed, this was post 1000 for me!!!

Good luck Beth with getting your passports, I read in the main forum that there is quite a back log, luckily you have plenty of time, I think its one of those things that people always think ''ohh our trip is ages away yet, will get it done soon'' and before you know it the time has flown and they have a few weeks to try and get it all sorted.
Have a fun weekend, a couple of days at the beach sounds like bliss, I could really use some sunshine right now, its sooooooo cold!
I think tonight I'm gonna get some Malibu rum, pineapple juice, some little umberellas and turn the heating up to full blast and have me a tropical night! :rotfl2:

I just created the new thread fo rthe kids. I just have to give Max his own login, so the new thread is listed under me for the first one.

cheryl

I am sure that I can search and find it, but I am incredibly lazy :rotfl: Would you mind posting a link? I know DD would like to participate. She will be 12 this month and loves the computer :cool1:

Everyone is so much more prepared than we are! Luckily, we drive down from SC, so I don't have to worry about airlines and transfers. We have stayed in the Holiday Inn Express right there at the Publix the past two years. You can walk to the Publix and it is just right down the block from Ron Jon which is a must-do for DD. We leave the hotel at about 8:30 and go to Ron Jon and then head to the port.

I have really got to start planning my excursions, but with a 2 year old, we are really limited in what we can do anyway!
