January 19,2008 / Eastern Magic / "The January Thaw Cruise"

OH NO...ok, part of me wants to know how it ends in the book, but then on the other hand, I don't want to go into the movie disappointed....

Speaking of Colorado....DS just got a packet to apply to the AF Academy. He is torn what to do, part of him wants to go to the academy, then the fear of rejection sets in, and he says he is just going to go in straight out of HS, go to college courtesy of the AF and then become a pilot. We told him whatever he decides to do, we are behind him 100%. Oh the decisions for a 17 yr old to make...lol

If he wants to go into the Air Force, why not try for the academy. If they say no, then he can just move on and go the other route, or maybe ROTC if they have that!

I should say that I don't have the foggiest clue how all the academy stuff works, so I may not know what in the world I am talking about!

He has taken ROTC all 3 years so far, both semesters...
He went online last night to fill out the pre-application, man does he have alot of classes to take next year to get caught up on what he needs to even be considered. Definately not something to wait till the end of your jr year to decide on...lol But we are just parents...what do we know???:confused3

Kids, gotta love them.:lmao:

I had a MILLION things to do today - so why have I just sat for almost 2 hours reading trip reports?

I love reading trippies, so was excited to find quite a few new ones with OUR Eastern Itinerary in the trip report forum! :surfweb: :woohoo:

Ok - so now Im going to fly around the house like a mad woman and pretend to DH when he gets home from work that Iv been flat out busy all damn day :laundy: :rolleyes1

Shhhhhh - dont tell him ok?! :rotfl2:

Thank goodness I am not the only one....
I am totally caught up in the repo trip report going on....:surfweb:

I will have to go look at the new Eastern trip reports, I need some reviews on excursions.

Of course I am also sitting here waiting for my DING alert to go off...we are going to Florida to see family for a week this summer, and with gas prices the way they are, it looks like its cheaper to fly. Plus, I want to plan a surprise side trip to Universal while we are there..GASP..not WDW....But I am thinking about adding a day or 2 after the cruise to WDW since it will be our anniversary the day we get off the ship, especially since we spent our honeymoon in Disneyland. But SHHHH that is going to be another surprise.

Maybe I should do something productive, like work on our pirate night shirts, or make something for the DIS meet....:rotfl:

The addiction is so swift with the disboards!!! Once you are on, you are hooked. I find myself jumping on between patients, and thinking about what to look up next....it is scary!!!!

But, summer is right around the corner...and it will fly by. Then we have the fall and all the holidays that make it go even faster, and then BOOM....January will be upon us. :dance3:

It is crazy! I check the boards 2-3 times a day when I'm at work! Must stop. Can't stop... :surfweb:

I am going to Cape Cod for a week in June (few days of work, few days of fun) and have a week in both July & August at the lakes in NH. That should be enough to look forward to, but IT ISN'T!!! Those are nice, relaxing vacations, but it just isn't the same.:confused3

I just want to be able to continue planning stuff!

I have reserved our room at the CI&S the night before the cruise. Pretty much know what we are doing in ports (although we need to finalize those decisions. DH isn't ready to discuss yet since he feels it is still so far away!):hourglass

I am still waiting for SW to release their schedule. I want to have my flights before I reserve our rental car. Can't reserve anything on the ship until November. Want to plan! Want to plan! Want to plan! Waaah! :scared:

I guess the only other thing I could start looking at is a hotel near Sea World for the night after the cruise. Maybe I'll work on that. It'll keep me busy and is way more fun that working... :rolleyes1

I just reread this & realized that I sound like a totally obsessed nutcase with no life! Someone that I would hope isn't at MY table on the ship! :scared1:

Oh, well. I figure you guys can all relate...

Bah. these boards aren't addictive. And I'm not at a technical conference in Orlando sitting in a lecture right now posting to them. ;)

Ok, so I guess I am addicted too.

Weather down here has been great this week but it is very windy. Severe weather alerts today for the wind. Hope that doesn't affect any of the rides too much. I plan to go to MGM tonight once the conference is done.

Last night we had Universal Islands of Adventure rented out for the conference. It was fun, but it only took me an hour or so to do everyting I cared to do. Definitely will not be taking the family there anytime soon. Just not enough for the little ones.

Anyway, suppose I should try to pay attention and get something out of this. :)

Later,
Jim

Jim,
Are you, by chance, going to see the Blue Man Group while you're down there? We're thinking about seeing them the night before the cruise.

Not planning on it, no. I only went to Universal because the conference had an event there so admission was "free". Since they had rented out the park not everything was open...about 12 rides and most of the shopping but that was it.

Jim

Brett....we saw Blue Man Group in Boston......Fantastic. If you can get tickets, I would say go and enjoy. We have never seen anything like it before, DH loved it....great!!!!!

Oh, sure, we are all surfing when we aren't supposed to be.:guilty:

Yeah, Jim're at a conference in Orlando while I have to stay home and work and take care of the DD! The only redeeming factor is that we're flying down to meet him Friday for the long weekend. Yay! While we were just at WDW after our 4 night cruise in April, I didn't feel like I got even a 10th of what I'd wanted to see seen, so this'll be nice - just the 3 of us, and about 100,000 of our closest friends. ;)

I hope the weather's nice this weekend. It's supposed to be 90 here this weekend - I'm hoping it'll be milder in Orlando!

Sure, he says this after *he's* the only one who's gone - I get no say in the matter! Hmpf.

Anyway, suppose I should try to pay attention and get something out of this. :)

Yeah, get with the learning! You're not there to have fun yet!!

Did I read that right? You are hoping to see the blue man group before the cruise? will they still be playing at Universal next January then?

That would be soooo cool! I would love to see them!

Is anybody doing WDW/Universal before or after the cruise? We start our vacation on Jan 5th, we have 2 weeks at WDW before the cruise to do the Disney parks/Discovery cove/seaworld so we will be on Disney overload when we set sail! Then after the cruise we have a a week at HRH to do Universal, and a few days in Chile on the return leg of the journey. We are VERY lucky to have a month long vacation!

We dont have any other travel plans this year other than a 10 day trip back to the UK, which we will take in October to visit family, our parents are REALLY missing their grandchildren at the moment, I guess it will give DH and I a chance to get the christmas shopping done and we wont have a problem getting sitters - we'll let the grandma's fight it out themselves over whos turn it is to watch the kids :lmao:

Blue Man Group just (or will be) opening a theatre at Universal full time. You can go to thier website to find out time & prices.

We are still in the planning stages of our trip still, trying to work out the details with 11 people, 2 of which are in Guam.:cool1:

However it is looking like this....
Fly in Friday and stay at Sarasota Springs(guamanians are DVC members, we are hopefully getting a villa that sleeps 12) drive over to port on Saturday. After the cruise my family is planning on spending 2 days at WDW for our anniversary (shhh its a secret, even from DH..still trying to decide on Contemporary or Animal Kingdom Lodge) while everyone else flies home Saturday.

That being said, we are going down to south Florida to see my family this summer, and I am trying to plan a surprise stop on the way home for a few days at Universal, staying at the HRH. Now if I can only pull all this off I will be amazed.

Good luck with pulling off your great suprise, I am Soooo usless at keeping secrets, I planned so many great things for our trip in Janusary and tried REALLY hard to keep it a secret and suprise the family but I was just so darn excited I was bursting! I ended up ''spilling the beans'' after managing to keep it quiet for all of about 2 hours!!! :rotfl2:

Sounds like me.....I am soooooo very bad with surprises, both giving and getting them. I am nosey as all get-out, and if I even suspect something, I am sniffing around:dog: like a dog trying to find the bone!!!

And, all my friends and family know not to say a word to me about anything because I will spill the beans!!

But, better to admit the problem than to pretend otherwise!!!:upsidedow

We decided not to tell our daughter this time (although I normlly do a countdown chain for our Disney trips and will miss doing that with her) but she figures that we will end up at Disney sometime next year. Just yesterday she asked if she would miss kindergarden to go to Disney next year (she missed Preschool a few weeks ago for a Disney trip) and when I said, "I'm not sure," she responded with, "Of course I will Mommy. We go to Disney EVERY year!"

No, she isn't spoiled. :)

So, fellow cruisers, where are you all staying the eve before we cruise? We are looking for a hotel in the port area, and any recomendations would be welcome!

We stay at the Embassy Suites by the airport, then take a FL Tours towncar to the port, with a store stop on the way.
