January 15, 2011 - Magic

Hi there! We have kids the same age (son Téo is 7, Summer is 5)- hopefully we can introduce them at the scavenger hunt:)

cheers,
Anne

Can we join too??? Pleeeeeease. This is going to be our first disney cruise. The kids our sooooooooo excited. Not too sure of our cabin info etc yet, but we are a party of 4. Myself, dh, our son (7) and daughter (turning 5 while we are on the cruise 20th). Let me know what all info you need.

Hey, less than a week!
I know since last time we went Disney has introduced Wave Phones - 2 'cell' phones in each room for use on board and at Castaway Cay. Has anyone used them? I don't know how recently they've introduced them. I googled it, and there's a You Tube video - at the end of the video the woman recommends bringing a pouch or something to carry it with, as it has no belt clip or anything. SHe also said on the video that it replaces the pages for the kids clubs, so guess I'll need it with me all the time... need to find some sort of carrier now since not all of my shorts have secure pockets ($250 to replace if you lose a phone) and I tend not to bring my purse with me :)

Since the wave phones replace the pagers, then I do believe you will want to keep it on your body at all times. Or, maybe not... :rolleyes1

OMG - less than a week!

Just saw the video also and I can tell you that I definetly thought these phones would be smaller. It seems to be the size of my home cordless phone and defintely not closer to the size of a cell phone which I thought it would be more like.

One good thing though is that it apparently replaces the wristbands with the chips in them for the kids at the clubs. My kids really hated the new wrist band. It was bulky and they kept wanting it off at night. It was like wearing a big watch everyday and they didn't like it when they wanted to go to sleep. So, for that it is good.

We were on the Wonder this past August and they did not have them then.

Wow, we finally only a couple of days away...with all of us leaving very shortly. we are flying out on Friday and so far the weather looks good up here in NY. Just hope the airlines don'tt get backed up with a possible storm on Wednesday. The last storm, it took a couple of days to get everything situated before all the flights were running normal.

Almost time! We are leaving for Florida on Wednesday - two more days!!!! Emma and I are heading out right now to get a pedi :)

We will be on this cruise in 5 days!!! This is our first Disney, but have been on others before. We are traveling with 11 people...Gma & Gpa, me & my husband, husbands brother & wife & all 5 kids...13, 11, 10, 8 & 6. Lots of vacations together before and so excited!!!. This forum has been SOOOOO helpful in preparing! See ya all soon!

Lori123, did you get Mickey Mouse painted on your nail? I've always wanted to do that.

Trip can't come soon enough. Frozen pipes driving me crazy.

Here's hoping that everyone is having or has safe and uneventful travels to Florida in the coming days!

For all my planning and making numerous lists, I'm still not packed. :rotfl: There are some things I just cannot do ahead of time, I guess. We're leaving tomorrow morning whether I'm completely ready of not, which is GREAT! :cool1:

Have fun, everyone!!!! party:

Does gathering items count toward packing? Of course I have my spread sheet/list. I'll be doing final launndry Thursday and packing Friday since we don't leave until afternoon. The big question is will I be able to get my FE gifts in our normal suitcases or will I need another carry-on just for them?

Hi there! I was hoping someone on this cruise could help me out! Can someone bring back Navigator's and post them asap when you return? (or just e-mail to me?) (I am really only for looking for pg2 with the times of the activities). We are sailing the Eastern on 1/29 and I need to finalize my Flounder's bookings...BUT I really want to schedule when there are things both DH and I want to do. The last one posted is back from October!

Have a great cruise!!

Stephanie

So funny! I ALMOST did! I just decided to let the lady do whatever she wanted - but I wish I would have done mickey since I don't really care for the busy design she did. Oh, well, I'm cruising is a few days - nothing is going to bum me out!!! :)

Stephanie, I'm planning on bring ours back. Actually if I can I'll bring back a good copy w/o our highlights. Please post again (Mon the 24th) if I forget or if someelse doesn't beat me to it.

Steve, I just forwarded the scavenger hunt to you ... and printed my own copy and put it with my luggage, thanks for the reminder!

Hey, not to sound like I have a drinking problem (hic) but I plan on bringing some rum, etc. in my carry on luggage rather than pay their exorbitant prices for drinks - I can get cheap soda and just add my own rum :) Does anyone know if there are any limitations - I know they dont' allow open food containers, but what about alcohol? I'd rather not bring the big bottle of vodka that's been collecting dust in my cabinet if I can just pour some into a smaller bottle instead... I plan on using the small soft sided cooler we use for the car ride down as carry on for the alcohol, that way we have a cooler for beach excursions-multi purpose :) Thanks for any advice, see you all in just a few days now!

I believe DCL is one of the few if not only cruise lines that lets you BYOB. I'm not aware of any quantity restriction. I believe the only rule is that the liquor must not be in your checked baggage. Since it's in your carry-on, you should be good. I, for one, am bringing aboard some gin in a plastic flexible RumRunner flask (available on Amazon). Since we're flying into Orlando the night before, I'll have to transfer the flask from my checked bag (on the airline) to my carry-on for the cruise. No big deal though. Happy cruising! See everyone aboard the Magic!

Hey Jen -

Yes, you can definitely BYO in a carry on. Also - soda is FREE on board, except in the bars. There's a 24 hour drink station on Deck 9 -- and it's free in the dining room. (Well, not free -- it's "included".)

See ya' real soon!

Hijacked from the facebook site...posted by another and figured I would Copy and put it here also

"Reminder: DISMeet at 3:00 p.m. Saturday - Promenade Lounge (Deck 3 Forward). This is a great chance for kids (and adults) to make friends. We'll break into small groups by kids' ages - with a few parents in each group - to do a simple activity designed to get everyone to talk and work together. Let's get in the spirit of the week together! See you there!"

hi - late to the party, in terms of showing up on this thread, though I had brought it up in a browser window quite some time ago with the intention of making myself known and catching up with the activities.

We drive to Buffalo tomorrow morning, fly into Orlando, hotel near the airport and then depart with the shuttle (Happy Limo) at 10am on Saturday. We are a family of 4, joined by my two adult sisters (single) and another family of 4 (2 boys, ages 5 and 11). My wife and I cruised last March with the couple from the other family, on Carnival, and had a great time. Really looking forward to the "Magic" of Disney and having our kids enjoy this experience.

I will try to catch up with some of the comments in this thread, but can anyone point me to the essentials? Is there a stateroom tour happening?

Thanks!
