Hi all. I will be visiting DL January 13 to 17 (flying out 17th) with family (10 of us). I was wondering, in your opinion, how busy should we expect it to be?
We will be staying at Howard Johnson’s and I will be in a mobility scooter.
I expect splash mountain, haunted mansion and maybe IASW to be closed and don’t expect fireworks as we won’t be there over a weekend. Will there be a parade? What about world of colour?
Do you have anything other things we should be aware of? We are coming from New Zealand and for some of our party it will be their first time (4 children aged 11, 12, 24 and 14).
I would really appreciate any suggestions or advice.

I will be there those exact dates, flying in from Sydney.

Personally, I am expecting to be very busy on at least some of those days for the following reasons:
  • NAMM Convention (a large music industry convention) is in Anaheim from the 16th.
  • ROTR opens on the 17th.
  • It will be the first real opportunity that people from our part of the world with families, will have the experience Galaxy's Edge. I'm expecting that there will be a lot of tourism from our part of the world in the Parks around that time.
  • MLK Holiday is the 20th, so there might even be some local trips (unlikely to affect your dates too much).
Crowds at the moment are so unpredictable. But if I had to guess, I'd say the 13-15th will be manageable. 16th on, expect heavy crowds.

Also, book restaurants and hotel/s in advance - because it might be hard to find dinner reservations for 10 people on late notice around that time - especially the latter part of yoru dates.

Thanks for your reply. I hadn’t thought about the need to book restaurants but you’re right with us being s group of 10 we should think about that. Thanks again.

I concur with what Version 6 said! I often go during that period (right around the NAMM convention) because it coincides with my birthday :) The convention itself doesn't do much as far as the parks themselves go, but they tie up hotel rooms and the rates skyrocket as it gets closer to the convention period. They also impact restaurant reservations, including in DTD, so it's a good idea to book your hotel and restaurant reservations as soon as possible.
