Welcome fellow grandparents! This is our 1st Disney Cruise, and we're doing it without the kids/granddaughter.
Any tips for first-timers?

We're also booked on this cruise 4 of us... myself (Michelle), DH (Matt), DS (Benjamin 6) and DS (Alexander 3). We're in 9577.

It's just our second cruise - we were on the Magic in the Med last summer. So excited to get back on another cruise!

Sorry I haven't been very chatty on the boards or our FB page. We found out that DH is being deployed and I have been going back and forth about canceling the cruise.

I will be homeschooling 2 kids and will probably need the break, but I feel guilty going without DH. On the other hand, the military will probably move us back to the west coast as soon as the deployment is over and the kids really want to go on the Fantasy. DH is fine with us going without him, I'm just afraid that it will be more stressful than relaxing for me (just the thought of driving 16 hours with the kids by myself gives me a headache).

I went ahead and bought FE gifts but I'm still on the fence...maybe some of you single parent cruisers can reassure me that it's not as hard as I imagine

Not a single parent, but after 33 years of marriage, my advice to you is to go, if you can do it without major inconvenience. Your husband will feel good knowing you are enjoying the vacation, while he is deployed, and he will not feel guilty for being the reason you all can not go. It will also be a nice diversion for you & the kids while he is deployed, and give you something to remember, so as to tell him all about it, upon his return. And the relocation to the left coast, is even more-so a reason to do it now.
How old are the kids?
Do they travel well?
Assuming they do; I 'm sticking with my suggestion.

I would think changing to the late dinner might make sense for you. We have the late seating and not only do you have more time to get ready for dinner, but the kids are taken to the kids club by the counselors midway through dinner which for us works fantastic. They get bored anyways at about that time and we can enjoy our evening. I hope you get some free time to yourself One other thing we plan to do this cruise that we haven't done in the past is try to take advantage of the shows on sea days in the afternoon. The pool is crowded then and if we see the show the kids can swim during the early seating while it's less crowded.

Sorry, It's been busy this week with school starting

WE ARE GOING and I have decided to spend a few extra days pre-cruise at WDW. We also changed to late dining (not as much rushing around to get ready early) and I am trying my best not to stress about this cruise.

I do have a huge favor to ask anyone who is platinum or concierge
If you are not planning on reserving a cabana on Castaway, would you mind grabbing one for me??? I want to make this trip extra special for my kids (keep their mind off of missing Dad) and also for friends who have decided to join us (kids with red hair and porcelain white skin). It's super easy to change the name on the reservation once onboard and I would be forever grateful!
