January 10-14 2010!!! 4 nights on the Wonder

I was just looking around on the disney cruiseline website and the only cabins available are category 5 & 6... super full? I wonder what that means for all of us in category 12's?

Does anyone plan on making door magnets? These look like fun, so I will probably give them a try. Just wondering for those with experience, which way works better... buying the magnetic paper or printing designs on cardstock, then adding magnet strips to the back? Can't decide which route I want to go.

Hi!

I did it both ways when we went in August. I had gotten the magnetic paper which only had 5 sheets and that was not enough so then I did the cardstock & laminated with the magnetic strips. Both were fine.

Will the magnets work if I use paper and not cardstock? I bought magnetic sheets and thought I would try those, but I didn't buy cardstock! Should I start over?
Also we are going to do the FE! My DD talked DH into participating!
Can't wait!

I'll update the roll call tomorrow... I'm using my little laptop and it's not the easiest to use sometime.

Door Magnets:
We used card stock and bought magnets. It seemed cheaper that way. I actually bought business card magnets and just cut them up really small to use.

Room Assignments & Upgrades:
From what it seems its very random. The only way your going to get an upgrade for sure is being a family of 4 in a cat 12 room. Other wise don't be too disappointed if you end up in a cat 12 or 11.
From what I have read about upgrades - what they do is upgrade the higher cats first. Example: If they needed to do upgrades because the over sold some cats they will upgrade the higher cats first.... so they would update the guests who paid for a cat 9 to a cat 5 or 6 (if they had a bunch unsold) and then upgrade the cat 12 -8 to a cat nine. So that way everyone gets a bit of pixie dust!! I've never read of a cat 12 or 11 being upgraded for free to any higher then an ocean view stateroom (although that would be AWESOME!!!)
Just recently I have read about people being offered an upgrade at a reduced rate... I'm not sure if we would pay for an upgrade... unless it was an amazing deal. I would love to stay in a veranda room.

I'm so excited that we are going to have a bunch of Disers on the boat!!!

On our first cruise we were upgraded to a stateroom with verandah on deck 7 just a couple days before we left on our trip. Disney left the message on our answering machine. That pixie dust was amazing.

Also, can you dine at Disney's restaurants in Orlando if you're not staying at one of their properties? Someone told me they charge extra for something like this.

:confused3 You don't have to give any proof of being a guest when you eat at a Disney restaurant. The only thing that I can think of is - if you want to eat at a restaurant in a park you need to buy park admission.

Thanks Natalie!

We are planning on visiting a few of the Disney parks after our cruise so that shouldn't be a problem.:goodvibes

I bought the stuff today to make our Fish extender... now I just need to go back and find a thread with instructions on how to put it together. Luckily, my mom is a sewer, so she will take care of that for me! We had about $12 in the materials... Our local fabric store did not have lot of Disney material to choose from, so for the background I went with a blue material covered in Mickey's... We will make the pockets black, and I will probably look for iron on designs for each persons individual pocket. Hope it turns out!!
I also need to start thinking about what to give as gifts...

Hi there! We're on this cruise as well! We're actually doing a back to back with the 1/7/10 cruise. Anyone else doing a back to back?

Anyway, it'll be me (Cathleen), DH (John), DS 5 (but turning 6 on 1/14) and DD 3. We're in a Cat 8 7514 I believe, and we'd be up for Fish Extenders if you're doing them.

This will be our 5th cruise, so hopefully we'll be "gold" after it's over!! (the 3 day is actually #4, and we're doing #3 in December on the Magic)

Welcome!! This is our first cruise and you have little ones close in age to ours, will be 3 & 5 in February... Any points or tips you can share?
Thanks!1

Hey there. Would be glad to answer any questions you have, where I can. The cruise is such fun for kids at this age. It especially seems like 5 is an awesome age for them to cruise, so I know they'll have a blast. Our first cruise in 2005 our son was almost 2, and when we cruised last December our daughter had turned 2 the week before and my son was almost 5. Both those cruises were 7 day cruises on the Magic, so it'll be interesting to see how the Wonder and the shorter cruises compare. Plus we're excited that both kids will be old enough for the club this time so I'm hopeful they'll find it exciting.

The shows are awesome. Especially Disney Dreams. Both kids loved the shows on the last cruise. We've never seen Toy Story so we're excited about the opportunity to see it twice in a week (since we're doing the back to back.) My son loved the characters on both cruises, and my daughter liked to wave at the characters from a distance or give them "high 5's" but wouldn't pose with them for pictures. The princesses on the other hand were another story. She couldn't get enough of them!! Castaway Cay is fabulous, and we're psyched that we'll get to go there twice in the same week. Sea days are also great, and usually have tons of activities to keep everyone occupied. For ports, we've historically stuck to simple or beach excursions since tours don't do it for the kids. Haven't been to Nassau, though (though we will have gone once by this cruise - earlier in the week!)

Probably can't give much advice on sleeping though as we've ended up in suites on both prior cruises. I might know more in December, as we've booked a Cat 12 for our Dec. cruise (though we'll get at least an 11, it will still be quite a shock from the Cat 1 we had the last cruise!)

Let me know if you have specific questions.

Our daughter was 5 on our first cruise on the 7 day Magic Western Caribbean. She loved the shows (we saw the Disney Dreams twice), and the characters but was disappointed she didn't meet the Beast, who is her favorite Disney character. Bradley at Guest Services kept an eye out for him and told her The Beast was in France. She eventually saw him in the Disney Dreams show. Does anyone know where she can get a picture of him at the parks?

Her highlights were: The Disney Princesses (they had a royal ball one night in the children's club where they dressed up like princesses, learned to curtsey and dance.)

- loved the Mickey pool and slide more than swimming in the ocean which scared her.

- loved the turtle farm on Grand Cayman (their fresh water pool) and the aquarium at Key West which was great.

- loved the character breakfast on the ship.

- loved the movies on board.

Unfortunately (unless things have changed since January)
there is no Princess Royal Ball or Character Breakfast on the Disney Wonder.

I would love to do the turtle farm like that have on Grand Cayman. I heard about a Bird zoo of some sort at Nassau that sounds cool.

The Movies on board are always great! Shawn and Dexter saw Bolt in 3D!!

At the Parks - Beast is sometimes with Bell in France. Good Luck!

Hi Everyone,

I just thought I would pop in and say "Hi" since my family and I will be sailing with you...

DH, DW (me), DS (7) and DD (5)

Nat,

Is the Beast in Epcot or the Magic Kingdom?

Nat,

The only place I know if is Epcot in France. They are kinda hidden where they hang out sometimes. It's around the stores in the back.
Just grab a time list when you enter the park and ask the cast members in France to know where they meet for sure. :thumbsup2
