Janis Joplin - Does anyone else NOT get the appeal?

I watched two Janis Joplin shows on TV this week. The movie Janis and Biography.

I just don't get it. I think she had the worst singing voice ever. I scream just as well, but nobody thinks I'm an icon.

If someone who DOES get it cares to explain it, I'm all ears.

Here's what's weird. I like Neil Young - most Neil Young anyway. I admit his voice is terrible, but I like the songs.

I love the song "your so vain" so I figured I liked her, but then I saw a special on tv about her and you are right. All of her other songs were just screaming and warbling.

After watching the biography about her depressing messed up life I wanted to do drugs and become an alcoholic!!!! Was everybody in the 60's that depressing??????

There ya go. She didn't have the best voice but I love her songs.
