Janet and Justin-Did you See what I just Saw???

The remarks this morning by CBS, MTV and Justin just don't wash with me. My first impression of the episode stands, Justin is trying to be just as shocking as Britney, it appears to be a smut war between the mousketeers to me and now the Jackson family has decided to get in on the shock the world action. She's old enough to be his mother, eewwww! That's like me dating my daughter's friends. That bustier didn't just happen to breakaway like that, it was planned, intended and obviously well choreographed and timed perfectly with the lyrics. I wonder what Justin's mother is thinking this morning?

I have to comment on the opinions that this was an "assault". I can't speak for everyone else, but from someone who has been assaulted, to compare this stunt with an assault is insulting.

Totally agree Serena.

Janet's stunt kind overshadowed Nelly's holding his crotch (he should have gone before he left home) and Kid Rocks wearing the American flag.

This discussion is an example of how we are becoming desensitized to sex and violence in the media.

You must be reading a different thread. The majority of responses here are the opposite of what you're saying in the above quote.

IMO, sex is good and violence is bad.

I'm a good parent and the only thing that bothered me were the sub standard perfomances. The boob? No biggie.

LOL! Yeh, it was a pretty bad show, you'd think after all these years of lip synching, she'd at least be good at it. ;)

I thought the boob thing was pathetic and stupid but they got exactly what they were looking for out if it, attention and controversy.

How could NFL have the mindset to let a sleaze station like MTV produce something that would be family oriented? Do they live under rocks?

It was more than just Janet Jackson's costume being ripped open on purpose by Justin Timberlake. The whole show was offensive.
But, CBS knew this beforehand because the show was reviewed by CBS during the week.

Disgusting.

Of course we see half naked bodies walking around all the time. But it doesn't mean we have to like it. Most of us find it offensive. And when these younger girls grow up, they may be ashamed of how they looked. We were forced to see something last night that some of us didn't want to see. That's just wrong. The crotch grabbing had me just as disgusted, as did all the ED commercials. Some things are just not necessary for public and family viewing.

Well, I thought the whole half time show a waste of time. The streaker was more entertaining!

assault? give me a break. objectification of women? yeah, but what are the cheerleaders that you see during all NFL games, including the superbowl.

another vote for no big deal here.

Quite frankly, I'm already tired of hearing/reading about it.

I was sitting in my living room with a bunch of girls in our early 20s and all of our jaws hit the floor! To summarize: Halftime = lame, first quarter = lame. It's a good thing the game picked up in the end or I would be totally annoyed with the NFL season this year! (Especially because of the lack of black and gold in the big game ;))

Local news this morning was reading some funny emails they'd received...

"There were two boobs up on that stage...Justin was the other one."

"Does this mean that Britney is going to have to out-shock the audience at the Grammy's by pulling down Fred Durst's pants and having him moon people?"

Personally, I think Janet figured it would take some of the media heat off Michael for a while to have her own "scandal" for people to talk about.

I know that many people agree with me. I just think that all of us have become desensitized, some more than others. I don't mean that as a slam against anyone. All of us have become used to seeing more skin and more violence on network tv and I think it's sad.

Don't get me wrong, I never said sex was bad. I just don't like it shoved down my throat, especially when I know little children are watching. The act was not an assault, but JT ripping JJ's clothing is not what I want my kids to watch. I have the right to be offended, the same way you who approve have the right to say you think it's no big deal. Now, I'm going to step down from my soap box and go on about my life. ;)

Latest information is that the FCC will investigate. Is this to be known in the future as "Boobgate"? Will Janet Jackson have to register as a weapon of mass destruction?

Will people who watched the Superbowl let CBS and the NFL know of their displeasure?

Was this is stunt produced by P. Diddie, Puffy, or whatever his latest name is? Are Justin and Janet coming to Disney World soon to perform?

Wanted to bump Dan's link as that is where we who were bothered by this should be directing our comments. Thanks for the link Dan!

To anyone who I've offended, I want to apologize. I shouldn't be judgemental of anyone I don't know personally. This thread is becoming very much like a debate, and I don't do well in those.

Have a nice day!

It just amazes me that we Americans are so "offended" by the sight of a breast. When my wife and I returned from a trip to Europe, everyone asked us how much nudity we were "subjected" to. I had to admit, it was much more prevailant there than here, on T.V, in newspapers and magazines. Yes, I brought back a couple, "off the rack" mags that had numerous depictions of the female body with far fewer clothes on the models than "off the rack" mags would allow in the states...and saw many billboards depicting nude models...one was a coke billboard. So why is it that our 'cousins' across the pond have so much more nudity present in their culture? I dont know. Mabey they just arent as d--n judgmental of others who are willing to admit we are all naked under our clothes, and arent embarrassed to show it. Does that have ANYTHING to do with being a "good" or "bad" parent. I don't thinks so.

Was I offended by seeing micro second shot of have of Janets breast....no. Did my four daughters even mention it at all. No. Has it stirred up controversy in the states...it appears so. Are the europeans laughing because of it. Probably.

And, just how much do we care about what the europeans are laughing about?

This wasn't in a magazine on a shelf somewhere. This was during the middle of the highly-watched Superbowl which is seen during prime time by families.

In Europe boobies showing isn't a big deal...even on TV or even on a public beach...

I still don't see the violent aspect of it. If she hadn't planned on having her bra thing ripped off I think we would have seen a little more of Janet than a metal nipple pasty.

BTW Anyone remember Lil Kim at the Grammys a few years back?

My suggestion...don't let your kids watch the Grammies this year!!

Whats with all the DRAMA about a boob that your really couldn't see in the first place. I mean if it bothered you that much to where your kids might be scared then maybe tv should be banned. It really isn't that serious with everything else going on this world. My dh and I talk to both our kids about sex and everything else they ask about. If we don't someone else will. If you think you can keep them from hearing profanity at an early age or seeing nudity than your sadly mistaken unless you keep them in house 24 hrs a day surrounded by Barney Videos.

Unfortunately in the REAL WORLD there is no PIXIE DUST TO SPRINKLE AROUND NOR MAGIC THAT SOME THINK THEY FEEL at DISNEY. You have to explain things to kids sooner than expected.
We aren't living in the day when Lucy and Desi slept in twin beds nor are we living in the Leave it to Beaver era. Kids will hear things on the bus, at school, in the locker room and even in church but as a parent when my 10yr old tell me and his father what he heard or saw at school We TALK to him about it and we listen to what he thinks about the situation. We don't push it under the rug and think the problem is going to dissappear because it won't.
