Janet and Justin-Did you See what I just Saw???

I have a theory, and I'll probably get flamed, but whatever! If you look @ the pics on yahoo and the drudge report, there's a little red lacy thing underneath the black leather. I'm assuming that justin was supposed to rip off the black leather, and the lacy red thing would be left there to hold in/cover (somewhat) her breast. By her reaction I don't beleive her whole breast was supposed to pop out. Also I don't think there was a 'pastie' thing on, I think she has a peircing and that's what the shiney thing was. She told Maxim magazine she had a peircing "there" (I think the word is filtered so I won't bother with it), and if she WAS going to expose her breast I'm sure she would have covered the 'area' a bit better. Just a theory, but by the look on her face when she looked down to see her breast exposed, I don't think it went as planned. (I also don't think she would have looked down at it if she knew it was going to pop out on purpose.)

tricia.

While I do not view it as abuse against women because she was a willing participant and I acknowledge it was a performance, it was in very poor taste for a family event. Timberlakes profanity, even if it is only the word a**, grinding with Janet, and then the end is extremely unacceptable for a family oriented event. Guess for something a little more family oriented I should have bought the Dodge lingere halftime show.

For the record, it was not a pasty on her nipple. The picture on the Drudge report shows it close up. It was a metal sun shaped thing that went around her nipple, and it also appears to have a post going through her nipple.

Now, as for why I personally have a problem with this incident....Yes, some kids saw a boob when they didn't need to. I don't have a major issue with this and wouldn't have freaked if my son had seen her boob. However, to show a male ripping off a woman's clothes is unacceptable. The young males watching tonight don't need to think that is acceptable behavior, and the young females don't need to think they should let a male do that to them. Heck, if she wanted to pull her own shirt all the way off, I would have been surprised, but not in a panic about it. After watching me breastfeed my youngest child, my oldest son probably couldn't care less about boobs. But if he had watched this, I'd feel it necessary to talk to him about how wrong it was for a guy to rip off a girls clothes, even as a stunt.

CBS has already issued an apology on air here. Said that wasn't done in the rehersals and they did not know or approve of it. That it did not conform to their standards. Of course they could be covering themselves.

They should issue an advisory if something like that is going to happen so parents can decide if it's something they want their children to see, not just spring it on us. Really it doesn't seem appropriate to me as family entertainment. And it's not nudity that bothers me, although I still would've liked to know beforehand, it the aggression. I don't want to show my kid's a man ripping a woman's clothes. I'm supposed to explain to them that it's ok because she was a part of the act? I don't think so. Luckily DS (7) had fallen asleep.

Most news articles I've read say that Justin Timberlake has called the exposure itself an accident referring to it as a "costume malfunction."

I was bored during the half time show and of course missed it. But DS may have seen it!

LOL, I think the greater insult is that the "Oops, wardrobe malfunction"...excuse...Pahleeease...you sang that you were going to do it...you did it...ultimately you will profit from it...that is the sickest part...

I feel sure it was planned, and yes it appears to be some sort of nipple ring or piercing.

I agree that times like this are a teachable moment for families. Unfortunately, many kids in our country don't have parents that take the time to tell them that it was inappropriate. If it had not been a prime time, major sporting event I would probably just  . I breastfed my second child and I am not offended by bare breasts, but it depends on the context. I am disgusted by a man ripping clothing off a woman for the shock value. IF that programming belongs anywhere, it's NOT on a major network, prime time!

I am saddened that singers/actors that have a target teen audience don't feel a sense of responsibility. It's too bad!

True, not only that, very few parents think the Superbowl is a program that would need to be supervised in any way...

I don't know maybe it is because I am the parent of two teenagers who often watch MTV but I wasn't the least bit surprized by tonight's show. I knew who Nelly was, P Diddy, Kid Rock and I knew the show was being produced by MTV who have a tendency to go over board. I knew the show would be somewhat sexually charged simply because of who was performing and who was producing it. The biggest mistake was made by CBS (owned by Viacom who also owns MTV) for allowing MTV free reign with the half-time show. You can't tell me that for the day or two that they were rehearsing the show that the "powers that be" at CBS had no idea how charged the show would be.

I believe you are correct. I went to the MTV website and they had 12 pictures up of the show including one where it was captioned "What are Janet and Justin looking at" it was a picture right after he had removed part of her top - the look on both their faces was one of shock. The picture has since been removed and there is an apology now on the site so I do believe it was an accident.

I was more offended by Kid Rock wearing an actual American Flag than I was by the Janet and Justin performance.

Me personally, I got a kick out of it. Had my 4 year old brother seen it, I probably would not have enjoyed it as much. That being said, I think it's a shame that more people are offended by the human form than they are about our Flag being disrespected by Kid Rock. I definitely see the parent's point of view, though.

maybe they figured if they did this, then nobody would be talking about their lack of talent :o

Whose mind went straight to "When you wish upon a star"??

Just adding my .02 worth, but isn't it all about context?? I have no problem with women's anatomy. None whatsoever. However, a guy ripping part of any woman's clothing off is NOT entertaining. The lyrics to songs are questionable enough these days...we don't need them to be visually shoved in our children's faces. I am lucky in that my 10 y/o dd hasn't found MTV yet. She still has somewhat childish taste in music. She does, or at least did, like Justin Timberlake. What would happen if a 12 y/o boy did that to a 12 y/o girl on the playground?? I know, a little extreme, but I'm sure it would be 'discouraged'!! And yes....how about that flag wearing?? Even my dd noticed that too. Just because society says something is okay, does that mean we all have to go along with it?? In my house we don't use a lot of common terms that are so prevelant in TV today. My 30 y/o son says they're just words Mom!! It is so commonplace today that we just accept the nasty lyrics, uneducated language and everyday violence. No wonder the show 'Joan of Arcadia' is getting so popular!! Okay, I'm coming off the soapbox now.

On all the news.coms, CBS is very upset about the content of the entire half time show. It was produced by a subsidiary, Viacom, and apparently they took license with some parts after the official rehearsal for CBS execs.

I can't blame CBS--I personally thought it was in poor taste with Nelly grabbing his crotch constently and Kid Rock wearing the flag.

Janet obviously had her part planned with the pastee so she can't act like it was a "wardrobe malfunction" as Justin's press release is quoting.

Tasteless and inappropriate when it could have been as positive and uplifting as the pre-game show.
:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

MY personal view just another act of violence against woman

From the pictures I've seen, there was no pasty, it was an interesting piercing. And the look on her face was startled.

It seems to have been a big mistake.

But I can't help but wonder why she wouldn't have had something a little less fragile on if they were planning on a stunt like that.

I may have missed this explanation, but why was he grabbing her in the first place? What was the point? (No pun intended;) )

I thought the whole half time show was trashy and couldn't believe I was sitting there watching it myself. I kept thinking it would get better and it just kept getting worse. IMO. Count me in the old generation!! LOL

My youngest went to bed right before 1/2 time and I let my DD11 watch the 1/2 time show.

She loves JT, as do I....but the look on her face was of udder disgust when she saw JT reach over intentionally pulling at her costume at just the right place. She said "why'd he do that?".

I told her under no circumstances at any time, place or show should that be acceptable and shame on both of them for knowing before hand they wanted to add a little shock value to the show. The pasty/tassel/whatever tells us she knew it would happen. We're not stupid.

But on the upside....WHAT A GAME!!!

I think the thing that saddens me most is that there are people who are okay with this. :(

And Preshi, yes, there is a standard of right and wrong....to go with your logic of "who's to say what's right or wrong" would mean that someone could think it was okay to rob/rape/kill ... after all, who's to say what's right or wrong? Puh-lease.

It's logic like that that truly frightens me and makes me fear for the future of my son.

Before I read this thread I thought it surely had to be an accident...now I'm just disgusted, and happy my kids had already left the room by that point.
