Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Ds scared the HECK out of me the other day. :scared1: He told me to watch a computer video screen of jingle bells. At first its played forward - then backward. As I'm very intently watching the screen - one of those scary, screaming, and quite possibly devil possessed flash animation guys comes up on the screen. I was soooooo frightened that I didn't react. Ds didn't think I'd been scared at all. He sounded so disapointed as he told me he thought that I'd scream. What he didn't know was that I was too scared to scream - totally frightened. I'm surprised people haven't had heartattacks watching that stuff. That Ebaums World website scared the heck out of me!

I don't know why I'm so tired lately. We were invited to go with a group of friends to a party downtown. I just don't want to go. I think of the driving, parking, tons of people & dressing up. I told dh he could go but I really didn't want to. NOw, I feel like I let down our friends & dh.

#1 cereal, nf milk, 1/2 peach, 1/2 protein drink w/oj and water
#2 tortellini and vodka sauce with corn on the cob
#3 1/2 turkey, cheese subway from Blimpie, 2 choc chip cookies

Amy, our grocery store had Bertelli's (sp?) spaghetti sauce on sale so I bought vodka sauce in addition to a tomato basil sauce. Nope, you can't taste the vodka & the sauce has no alcohol content but it was very good - it was actually kind of sweet. What is it with the chocolate cravings lately? Today I had two choc chip cookies!

We finally firmed up our plans for the weekend. Thankfully, dh agreed with me about the party - instead we've been invited out for dinner & poker on Saturday and Sunday. I'm just glad I don't have to get dressed up - I can just chill and enjoy myself.

#1 veggie burger on a bun, oj
#2 hotdog w/grapefruit soda

Taking QT back to vet today. Arrgghhh! :sad2:  I want to know when this will end and what in the heck in the universe trying to teach me?!? Whatever it is I better learn it quickly - I don't think I can handle anymore sick animals.

Hey Jane!

Good luck at the vet. Hope you can find some answers!!

Have a nice evening tonight (I love when I don't have to feel the need to dress up to go out.) It's fun now and then to go somewhere special, but overall, I just like to be comfortable!!

I get like that sometimes too (not wanting to go out). I'm glad you had an alternative activity to choose from!

Sorry to hear the kitty is sick again (still?). I hope they can find out what is wrong!

I hate those stupid websites that freak you out like that. I always suck in my breath instead of screaming. At least you didn't do what I did to DD7 a couple weeks ago. She snuck up from behind as I was kneeling down in front of the fridge and I proceeded to yell at her and probably traumatized her for life... I'm just winning all kinds of "mother of the year" nominations lately...

Hope you had a great weekend, I can't wait to hear about the poker parties!

I'm finally able to catch my breath!

Friday night we went to see World Trade Center. Its a very moving movie - very tough to get thru. Thats why I bought a box of Milk Duds...

Saturday night we went over to a friends house to play poker - we had a potluck -lots of good food

Saturday
#1 cereal, fruit, nf milk, 1 peach
#2 veggie burger, cheese, banana
#3 shrimp, homemade chicken nuggets, a salad layered w/ tomato, red onion, & mozzerella cheese, veggies, baked chips, cheese dip, salsa, 4 white zinfadels (which may be why I lost) NO DESSERT!!!!

Sunday we woke up and dh made a run to McD's for our breakfast in bed while I fixed mimosas.

My friend had us over for dinner and cards Saturday night. I did pretty well. - Definately did not drink a thing except water.

#1 2 mimosas, cinamon roll, breakfast burrito
#2 veggie burger, hot pepper cheese, banana
#3 garlic rice, shrimp, tomatoes, mushrooms;2 homemade breadsticks, raw veggies & dip
#4 homemade brownie, ice cream (2 hours after dinner)
I noticed my card playing was much improving having sugar instead of alcohol for dessert.

Mom kept me busy! Thursday I took her to WalMart. She loves looking at shoes. I pointedly asked her as we were leaving the shoe dept if she wanted to buy any. She said no - they didn't have anything she liked.

Sunday afternoon I went over to check on her. She asked me if I'd take her to WalMart to buy shoes. I told her that there weren't any shoes she liked. She insisted that there was a black pair of flat shoes & described them in detail. I countered that there were no such shoes there or she already would have bought them. She kept arguing back..... so early this morning I took her to WalMart. We searched the shoe dept & there were no shoes like she described. She kind of shrugged her shoulders as we left the shoe dept. From now on - I'm going to try to keep her on a schedule. Its not easy. She gets something in her mind & then I'm in trouble!

She had an appointment for a memory testing today. My brother phoned me last night and said she was flat out refusing to go. I told him to quit talking to her about it - In the morning, I'd be over to take her to WalMart & I'd get her to the doctors. For some reason, coming from me, she accepted my decision and went - but it wore both of us out!

#1 took mom to McD's for breakfast - cinamon roll, water
#2 cheese burger
#3 hummus, pita, banana

My achilles tendon has been killing me this whole weekend. I'm not sure whats wrong with it - its ok during the day and by nightfall I'm in pain. Last night I noticed the side behind my ankle was swollen.

Kate, the animals seem to be doing much better. We're finally having an easier to giving them their meds! Cats sure are a lot harder than dogs to bathe and medicate.

Amy :rotfl: thats exactly what I did! I breathed in, stood up and walked as far away from the computer as I could get. Ds came running up to me - totally disapointed saying that he thought that would scare me!!!!!
:badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: I was shaking for about 5 minutes.

They think QT's problem was an after affect of the virus. She had horrific looking ulcers on each side of her face. They appear to be getting better which makes me very happy!

Well, Jane, we must admit that our lives are NEVER dull!

Hope you have a great week and that the critters all stay well!

No more falling over things in the night, ok???

I agree, you need to get your mom into some kind of routine. That way she will know you can take her shopping on x day, errands on x day, etc. It'll be a lot easier on you!

Take it easy on the achilles. I knew a guy who ruptured his. NOT PLEASANT.

Glad to hear the kitties are getting better. Luckily the only thing wrong with my dog is my foot up his  for eating our landscaping, shredding papers, jumping on the counter...

I think you need to go on a Milk Dud avoidance plan. Branch out, try some Junior Mints or something!

I had Mom over for dinner so I fixed tacos and tiny hot fudge sundaes using coffee ice cream. One of my neighbor's showed up so the three of us had a lively discussion. I hope I wore her out so she'll be able to sleep all night.

#1 cereal, slivered almonds, 1 peach, nf milk, oj
#2 hot pepper cheese, banana, oj
#3 coffee ice cream sundae
#4 taco on burrito wrap, coffee sundae

Julie, you're right about that! Things are way to busy to get dull. You seem much busier than I am. I don't see how you do it.

Amy, ouch!! You're scaring me about that guy RUPTURING his achilles. Its weird because its only sore at night. I usually end up putting cold packs on it while dh rubs it for me.

Your dog is giving you a run for your money!! Sounds like he's into everything. :dog2: They're so darn cute!

I'm so sorry to hear about your achillies tendon. I've got the exact same thing going on and it's the pits! Mine gets worse at night too, which they say is normal for tendinits. Have you had this before?

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate these days! I'm sorry to hear QT has been ill, but I'm glad she's on the mend. Your adventures with your mom are too much! I'm glad you were able to get her to the scan.

Have a great day today! :sunny:

Did you ask your Dr about your achilles? Is it just 1 or both? I wonder if there are some stretches you could do to help out. It's weird that it is only at night, like it's a fatigue issue or something. I'd ask about it or do some online research...

Wow, you are brave to have ice cream in the house. :worship:

Coffee ice cream sounds REALLY yummy with Hot Fudge - can I come have some????

Are you sure your pain is the achilles? Plantar faciitis goes up the back of the heel/ankle & is always worse in the morning. I thought I had achilles problems a few years back until a DNiece by marriage who is a podiatrist in OK told me it was plantar instead. Either way it's painful!!

What soy shakes do you drink? I order Revival & they do wonders. I think they' still send out free samples, too. Hot flashes & night sweats REALLY REALLY stink!!

Hope your week is going well. Have a good one!

I'm trying to take time to finish reading The Devil Wears Prada. Its a fun book, and dh and I are going to try to see the movie tomorrow. I hear the movie is a lot different than the book.

#1 cereal w/ 1/2 banana, nf milk, almond slices
#2 protein drink
#3 protein drink
#4 garden burger on a bun, 5 nila wafers

I'm staying on program. I'm way to scared to get weighed - I've got to get back to basics. The coffee ice cream's been fun - but won't help me fit into my jeans. My size 12s are now too tight to wear. :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

I can't believe I've already used the 40lb box of kitty litter I bought last week. I clean it out at least twice a day. We're going broke buying sand!

Pearliq, every once in awhile I used to get this pain but I've never had it this long before. I'm not really sure what it is. Its behind my inner left ankle & I have pain going up the achilles too. Both cats are slowly getting better. Trying to give a cat a pill is the pitts. They never cooperate. Thats why this is taking so darn long. :cat: If you have any advice please give it!

Amy, I haven't been to the doctor about this since I've only had it the past few weeks. I keep thinking its some kind of a fluke. Right now I'm fine but every night this week its hit & then I can barely walk when it swells up. You're right I should check online. I had heel spurs for 2 years before I finally went to the doctor. I didn't want to go because I loved walking so much - the first thing he did was take away my daily walks. That took a year to recover from - so maybe its related somehow.

Julie, a cousin of a friend of mine sells Revial products. She swears by them but she doesn't live down here any longer. Right now I've still got some Herbalife Soy protein drink mix that I've started using. I've been getting hot flashes every morning no matter what I eat. Thankfully, I don't get them at night - maybe my body has its days and nights reversed.

Ok Jane, LAY OFF THE MILK DUDS at the movies!!!! You can do it! Maybe you can wear your tight jeans to make extra sure you won't stray... Take a protein bar instead - you'll be happy you did!

Have you tried the black cohosh for the hot flashes? My friend says that has helped her tremendously. Be glad you don't have night sweats. Waking up soaking wet in cold sweat is no fun! It's pretty bad when my normally snuggly DH wedges the covers down so he doesn't have to touch me in the middle of the night. He says sometimes I'm like a furnace... :confused3

I sure hope your foot problems get better soon. :wizard: It sounds pretty miserable.

Amy, you're right!!!!! NO MILK DUDS at the movies tonight. I'm going to grab a protein bar just like you said. Sigh!! We'll see how I do.

#1 cereal, nf milk, 1/2 banana, slivered almonds
#2 jr bacon cheeseburger (took Mom out to Wendy's for lunch) coffee ice cream
Thats all I've eaten so far but I'm going to grab a veggie burger before going to the movies tonight. It never helps when I get there and I'm hungry - that makes me crave my Milk Duds even more.

Next time I'm at Walmart or Walgreens I'll take a look at the Black Cohash. I'm going to see if I can get soy in a pill form.

20 minutes of yoga

So, how did you do???? And how was the movie, I heard it was pretty entertaining.

You might want to check out Hi Health for the Black Cohosh. They'll probably have a bigger selection and the people that work there are pretty informative. They might even be able to suggest something else for you as well.

I bought some veggie burgers and have yet to make them. I'll have to put them on the menu for next week!

:thumbsup2 I'm organizing our office. I can't believe how much stuff we accumulate. Dh is one of those people who refuses to make decisions. He'll put something in a drawer, desk or file for later. Then later never comes. I've just thrown away two garbage bags of files that are outdated or just plain unnecessary. I also threw out a huge contractor bag of stuff from out of our bookhelves.

The main problem I have is deciding where to store our photo albums. We have about 35 but it seems like 50. I don't know what to do with them. We had a whole bookshelf in our office filled with them. I'm sick of that bookshelf. It doesn't match the rest of the furniture, it gets in the way, and we probably only look at those albums 3 times a year. The current album I keep on our coffee table shelf in our office.

I emptied the bookshelf - putting some of the albums in our closet (along with some others we had stored there), some in the garage, some in our family room closet). I haven't even mentioned the yearbooks yet. :guilty:

The room looks good. I emptied out all of the small furniture, plants and an area rug. Then I gave our tile a good scrubbin' with bleach. The painter we use gave me an estimate and we're going to have the room painted next week. The previous owners had it done about 8 years ago in antique white. Antique white sure looks blah after 8 years - more like grungy grey. I'm getting Hawaiian Honey. I don't know why all of the paint colors I use make me hungry...honey, garbanzo bean, fennel, sage...You'd think the paint companies would come up with some nonfood names.

Last night I fixed veggie burgers, hot pepper cheese, veggies & hummus for dinner, 4 oreos, nf milk

#1 cereal, 1/2 peach, nf milk, slivered almonds
#2 veggie burger, lf cheese, burrito tortilla, 2 Frappachino bars
#3 same
#4 a glass of Poco Coloda which I opened up to celebrate getting the office cleared out or at least starting to get cleared out

Amy, apparently Hi Health is like Trader Joe's in Sarasota - NONEXISTANT!!!! I checked their website for buying online. They sold Nature's Way Black Cohash so I think WalMart or Walgreens sell that same brand. Thanks for the heads up on this herb.

I was good at the movies. I had a trail mix protein bar with ice water. Its a good thing too. The main charachter was a size 6 and she was considered fat. AACcckkk!!!! :furious: There was no way I could have indulged in my Milk Duds while watching that.

I fixed everyone veggie burgers for lunch today. They're quick, healthy and lowfat. Everything I like for lunch. :sunny: My neighbor wanted to go out for Mexican food today but I declined. I knew that there was no way I could walk into that restaurant and order something low cal AND low fat. I declined the offer - It'll have to wait till better days. My 14s are getting tight now. :sad2:

YAY for behaving at the movies!!!!!!! :cool1:  :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :yay:

And congrats for bypassing the Mexican food and sticking with veggie burgers instead. We are having those for dinner next week. Except the kids wil be told they are hamburgers because if it even has "veggie" in the title, they will balk. And they both eat plenty of veggies, I don't know what their problem is!

I bet those 12's will start fitting again soon. You've gotten down there before, you can do it again! :thumbsup2

Thank you, Amy for your support! :) I was glad that I was able to get thru a whole movie without Milk Duds. I can relearn how to eat, especially in situtations that trigger my bad eating habits. I bought more of the pizza veggie burgers today. Even ds loves them. I hope your kids enjoy them - they're quick and easy for busy days.

Sunday
#1 cereal w/slivered almonds, nf milk
#2 grapes, LC cabbage rolls
#3 chocolate avalanche cake - it had a layer of raspberry in it! Way too good! I had a HUGE slice - along with choc shavings.
#4 ribs, french fries, 2 chix wings, 2 glasses of champagne

I had two big food problems with Sunday. We had a party at work. The person who brought in the cake outdid themselves. It was delicious - and decorated with choc covered strawberries and choc shavings. It was just too good. Since I worked dh was haning out with his buddies at a sports bar until I got home. He came home with all of the wrong stuff - :guilty: When I come home from work I'm just too week to say NO to fattening food. He really has to stop doing this.

#1 eggwhites, lf cheese, ham, grapes
#2 1/2 peanut butter sandwich, grapes, mocha bar
#3 chix fajitas (NO CHEESE), fiesta corn, grapes, 2 mocha bars

I had Mom over for dinner tonight so we ate early. She loved the fajitas - but 1/2 is plenty for her.

I've been watching celebrity fit club. One of the participants is a woman who weighed in at 152lbs originally. She's now 143. Talk about inspiration. She looks better already. I want to get the doctor's diet book from that show but my library doesn't carry it. I'm going to wait a month and see if they get it. If not, I may break down and buy it.

No milk duds at the movies? You're my hero! ;) Those darn work parties and all the tempting food! Good for you for not getting down about it and moving forward. I wish I could watch Celebrity Fit Club too (we don't get the channel in Canada)!! Hope you have a great week!

I guess I should watch that show. I always get inspired by Biggest Loser. As for the veggie burgers, DD7 loved it, DS10 threw a temper tantrum and was almost making himself throw up since I made him eat 1/2 of it. I didn't even tell them they were veggie burgers - he just didn't like it because it was a little crunchy on the outside. What can I say, he is a texture freak like his mom... :rolleyes1

I hope you are able to get back on track and your DH stops bringing home fattening leftovers! :wizard:
