Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Just getting caught up... Sounds like you had a wonderful anniversary trip. I am jealous of your breakfast and mimosa's in bed. Those days are so far away for us. Now weekend mornings are three little ones climbing into bed with us at 6am :rotfl2: . I had to laugh about your discussion regarding valet with DH. I've had that "discussion" many times with DH - even when valet is free!

Hope your critters are doing better and your achilles is feeling better. Take it easy.

Great job getting your office sorted and cleaned out :thumbsup2 . But move the picture albums back out of the garage. It is too hot and humid and the pictures will degrade. At least your pictures are in albums. Mine are mostly still in boxes or the digital ones are on the computer. I got them into chronological order before DD3 was born, but haven't made it beyond that.

GREAT JOB resisting the Milk Duds!!! :cheer2:

I can't wait to get our office painted!!!!! Its been driving me nutz for at least two years. This Saturday can't come quickly enough for me!

#1 black bean burger, lf cheese, bun
#2 same as #1
Haven't eaten dinner yet. I'm going to fix tilapia when dh gets home from work.

Anna, its great to have you back! :cool1: I'm sure you're busy with school starting up again. I definately know what you mean about NO mimosas in bed! When my children were small I rarely drank anything with alcohol in it. It wasn't until they hit their teen years that I actually started drinking wine. Dh and I started going out one night a week - just the two of us - and then we'd usually order a drink. Enjoy your children while they still WANT to spend time with you - it sure changes quickly! LOL about the darn valet! What is it with guys?

Amy, sorry the veggie burger didn't work out so well with ds. :confused3 I hope you find something quick and easy to feed him. Girls must be easier to feed - I had the same food problems with my boys. I'm going to have to have a talk with dh about those ribs. Its funny - before he started hanging out with his friends at the sports bar he never ordered ribs or chix wings. I was always the one ordering one of those - thats how I hit 180lbs. Now, I'm going to have to ask him to change this new habit before he starts bringing home bad stuff every week. I felt awful after eating it.

CJK, thanks for stopping by my thread! :sunny: You're workout minutes are amazing. Thats a lot of hard work - you'll be reaching your goal in no time. Maybe they'll be putting Celebrity Fit Club on dvd. Its motivating to watch all of the changes they make.

There's nothing wrong with your DH ordering that junk - as long as he doesn't bring it home... I told my DH that he was going to have to take the trail mix to work. He asked if I was really that pathetic (not in those words, but I got the hint) that I was going to force him to take a mongo, 4lb bag of trail mix to work. I told him he could take it wherever he wanted, but I better not see it in the pantry, because yes, I AM that pathetic... :confused3

You wanna get back to the basics with me? I bet I do OK on this detox my ND has me on for about 2 days. Then I'm gonna start losing my mind... It would be nice if I could share the pain...

Well I ruined my dinner. :sad2: I decided to grill the tilapia. Instead of putting the fish directly on the grill I got out my veggie/fish thing for the grill. I can't believe that I forgot to spray it with Pam. Ds told me not to feel bad he would have done the same thing. Out of three filets I managed to salvage enough for dh and me. Ds is eating a Hot Pocket.

Dinner last night - 1 bagel w/lf LC cheese, grapes

Today
#1 cereal, nf milk, slivered almonds, 1/2 bagel w/lf cheese, oj
#2 1 rice crispy treat, 6 oreos, nf milk
#3 tilapia, asparagus w/honey mustard dip

Yes, Amy, I'd love to share the pain. Whats on your detox program? Maybe I'll buy the book from the doctor on Celebrity Fit Club - It seems to work for the celebs, & his diet starts with a detox phase too. I don't blame you at all about the trail mix. I'm the same way. As dh says I have NO willpower!!! :guilty:

Sorry your fish didn't work out. I have done that before too.

If someone could bottle willpower, they'd make a fortune with me. If it is open in the house, I'm going to eat it! Maybe I should detox too. I don't know if I (or my family!) is ready for that though :rotfl2: .

At least you salvaged some of the fish! I spray everything with Pam. I FINALLY learned my lesson in that area...

OK, here is my detox (you're not gonna like it!):
Nothing with corn syrup or corn starch
No processed carbs (refined flour, white rice, etc)
No melon, bananas, grapes (only apples, pears and berries)
No corn, peas or carrots (all other salad-type veggies are fine)
No sodas (diet or not)

Splenda or stevia for sweetners
Natural peanut butter
Nuts (almonds, walnuts)
Lean meats
Complex carbs must have whole wheat as the 1st ingredient
Only 1-3 complex carbs per day (she wants me to stick with 1, MAYBE 2)
Sugar Free Jello
Soy Crisps

I did OK the first day, and I am determined to get through this 2 weeks. So join me, it will be fun (maybe not...)

Amy, I'm ready!!! :thumbsup2 It looks like you're off to a good start. How do you like the program so far? I bought Dr. Smith's book today and am starting on his 9 day detox. Its similiar to what you are doing, however, I am allowed all fruits & veggies except avocado and white potatoes. Protein sources include eggwhites, beans, chickpeas, lentils, tofu (yeck). (No nuts either) - Also I'm supposed to eat 1 bowl of oatmeal and 2 C of brown rice a day as well as 2 cups of herbal tea. The diet also includes lowfat yogurt (which I hate - so that won't help me at all - so I substituted a lf cheese wedge in my omelette.) I've also been drinking lemon water all day because it curbs my appetite. I was surprised when I came in from my walk today - my house smelled like lemons! :)

Weigh in: :guilty:  :sad2: :furious: 159. Sigh! I did it to myself.

workout: 25 minutes of walking, 10 minutes of free weights

Anna, I hear ya on the willpower! I have none - thats why dh worries about me when I'm supposed to be dieting. I don't know why in the heck I forgot to use my Pam yesterday. :confused3 I even buy the Pam for Grilling - just allowed myself to get too preoccupied with the animals outside.

Speaking of animals...our newest addition, Mariska found a new hiding place. She hides inside the box springs under the mattress. I freaked when I discovered her in there last night. Dh, ds and I all tried to cajole her into coming out. She would just meow. Finally, dh cut the material under her and grabbed her. This morning she tried to get back in there. I grabbed her out immediately, and shut my bedroom door. After my walk, I noticed my bedroom door was open & sure enough - she was back inside the box springs. All of us tried to get her out but she refused... guess that'll be her new hiding place. She has a mind of her own!

#1 lemon water, oatmeal w/ 1 apple (1/2 cooked w/cereal and 1/2 raw), nf milk
#2 hummus and raw carrots
#3 eggwhite omelette w/peppers, onions, hot sauce, and 1 lf cheese wedge

lots of lemon water

I hope Mariska finds a new hiding place! :teeth:

I hear you on the willpower thing! I do fine for a while, and then those darn chips starting calling my name and won't relent until I surrender!

Good job on your last food day, exercise and water! Oh how I admire everyone who can get that water in! Have a great weekend!

You are doing great on day 1 of your detox! :thumbsup2

That kitty sure is a whole lot of trouble. Hopefully she'll find a new hiding place soon.

I need to start drinking lemon water. I am supposed to be drinking that and I have yet to do so. My ND said to sweeten it with stevia. Have you ever tried that?

I have found a new friend - seedless cucumber. I hate the seeds and these are perfect for me! I get something crunchy AND healthy!! Of course I put salt on them, but just a sprinkle... :rolleyes1

So did you survive Day #1? This weekend will be the big test for me. That scale will get back down in no time. Does this book tell you how much you can expect to lose in the 9 days?

I bet kitty will get too big to fit in the mattress pretty soon. They grow so fast!

 I successfully completed day 1!!!! :cheer2: For me, thats amazing!!! Also I put in an ADDITIONAL 25 minute walk about an hour after eating dinner. I talked dh into going to a new park with walking trails. This park is great - it has a canopy of trees leading up to a lake. Going past the lake there is a clearing with picnic tables and a wide expanse of yard. Also, they allow dogs on a leash & have some trails for biking. It was much nicer than walking in my neighborhood.

Our walk went so well last night that I took our dog today. She had a great time, and walking on the dirt trail is much easier on my feet.

Speaking of feet - my achilles still hurts but it seems to be worse when I'm not up and walking. When I first did my walk this morning it HURT but by the time I'd finished - the pain was gone. I did 30 minutes this morning & even got in some resistance training while attempting to keep the dog away from squirrels & birds. Thankfully, we didn't see any gators around the lake but I'm very watchful. I was always told that dogs are gator bait.

#1 oatmeal w/apples, cinamon and nf milk (I even made this for dh and ds!)
#2 brown rice w/asparagus, black beans, 1 wedge of lc cheese & spaghetti sauce

I'm supposed to be eating 5 meals a day and I haven't even eaten meal #3 yet. The eggwhites from last night kept me full. At 9pm when I started wanting snacks I made sure to drink plenty of ice cold lemon water. Believe me, I feel "lighter" already. I want back into my size 12s. I can't believe I outgrew them. What a bad bad summer.

I hope my body doesn't go into shock from all of these healty, lowfat, low sugar foods.

Thanks CJK, Mariska was hiding in her secret hideout earlier today. Fortunately, she got back out. Yesterday she was in there for about 4 hours. Our other cat used to hide in our leather reclining couch - which also freaked me out. Guess that the box springs are the lesser of two evils!

Anna, I can't believe I made it a whole day!!! For me, thats amazing. Only 8 more days left. After this detox Eating For Life is going to seem heavenly. I'm thinking of pulling my book out and cooking up those delicious recipes again. I did great when I was on the program but got lazy and quit using the book. I really miss the food.

Amy, I"ll have to try the seedless cucumbers. I don't sweeten my lemon water with anything but I do add lots of ice. Dr. Ian's book didn't mention lemon water but I've been successful with it before so I decided to do it again. Glad to hear that your ND is pushing it. I must be doing something right!

Also, I've only read the detox portion of the book but he does not list how much weight you should lose on the program. From watching his show I was impressed with how well the people have done. I think the average has been about 5-7lbs. Right now I just want to be closer to the 140s than the 160s!!!

Hi Jane!

Wow, your detox program sounds tough but good, and at least its only temporary, right? Way to go getting through your first day.You can do it!!

And if I was more motivated, I'd jump in there with you, but I'm on this snack binge right now and can't seem to get off it!

Keep on and you'll be back in the 140's in no time. :sunny:

Day 2 is completed!!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

I'm sitting at home waiting for the painter..... :rolleyes1 ...let's just say he's a little late so I've got plenty of time to post.

My workouts yesterday went very well. In addition to the morning walk I did a 12 minute upper body weight workout as well as a 30 minute trail walk at the state park. The trail walk about scared the heck out of me.

We hit the Canopy trail at about 6:45pm. Its called the canopy trail because of the lush tropical vegetation which makes a canopy overhead, which sounds pretty until you realize all of the types of animals that live in there.

After walking for 10 minutes we hear a godawful noise in the bushes. LOUD!! VERY LOUD!!! I look at dh and I get worried because he's not snickering at me. Then he asked if I thought it was a deer. (I thought HE*L NO! A deer doesn't make that kind of noise.) Instead I quietly answered that I thought it was a wild pig. Indeed, when it hit the clearing it was a big black PIG! It was about waist high and was running like mad. That was a little unsettling but when we walked a few more minutes and the trail was washed out I was relieved.

Since the trail was a big loop we just turned back to loop back around. Thats when we came across a part of the trail where the swamp (because of the rainy weather) accessed the trail. There was swamp on either side of us and just a muddy patch thru the middle which we walked thru - after all it wasn't washed out... then I kept thinking what if a gator is in here & we get stuck back here with it. (I did not want to try to outrun a gator.) AFter getting thru the swampy trail. I was relieved to see dry vegetation until I heard a familiar noise. You guessed it...Mr. Pig again. This time he seemed truly pis*ed off. He squealed and yelled and fussed as he ran across the trail about 50 feet in front of us. We sort of paused then continued on...when we got to the part where the pig had run across the trail we could smell him. Then we could hear him as he started yelling again. I looked at dh, and said I wanted to turn back now! Walking at sunset in the Florida woods can be hazardous to your health!

On the positive side we did 30 minutes on the trail, lived to tell about it, saw 2 deer, one osprey, and lots of beautiful plants. Dh sounded disapointed we didn't see any gators so we then went to the Bird Walk which is a long dock on the Myakka Lake. There we saw 2 gators and heard several more making that deep throat noise, & saw lots of birds (no eagles). On the slow ride out of the park we saw probably about 25 or 30 deer. One criss crossed the road in front of us.

I want to go back when the place is dryer so I can make it thru the whole trail. I've known people who go back packing and camping with permits in the backwoods. I'd be way too terrified. I'm finally doing more physical things - not just going to movies and eating out...and it feels great!

Yesterday's dinner - veggies and brown rice, another 12oz glass of lemon water.

30 minutes of yoga & 30 minutes of walking

Today dh and I went to the farmer's market where we bought veggies, fruit, homemade hummus and homemade salsa. Afterwards we went to Bayfront Park where we walked along the marina and downtown for 30 mintutes.

#1 melon and grapes
(At the Farmers Market dh bought a breakfast wrap - which I resisted - eggs, chorizo, cheese, potatoes, peppers, onions...in the past I would have gotten one.) Instead I bought myself a necklace with a beautiful shell on it.

#2 eggwhites w/green onions & lf cheese wedge, lemon water

Kate, I was going thru the same darn thing as you. It was awful; I couldn't control my eating. You're snacks are much better than mine were. If you decide you want to try this you're more than welcome to join us! :)

WOW! I had no idea there was so much wildlife in your area. That pig would have definitely had me turning right back around and headed to the car. Great job with all the exercise and physical activity. You are doing such a great job with your detox! :cheer2:  :cheer2:

I hope the painter showed up and you are having a great weekend.

Wow!! How thrilling (and slightly frightening!) it must have been to see so many wild animals! We went to northern Ontario last week and didn't see a single deer or moose! I was so disappointed! Glad you didn't have the same experience!

Way to go on the exercise and detox. You're on a roll! Keep up the great effort.

:lmao: :rotfl: :scared1:

Wow, I'm certainly entertained reading about your animal adventure!!!

I would have been scared to death with the pig, but worrying about the gators would be worse!

We have deer in our backyard frequently, they roam the neighborhood which is surprising because we're not in a rural area or anything. This is an older established subdivision, and the wooded area keeps getting smaller and smaller, but I enjoy seeing "Bambi" sometimes in the morning right past my deck!

Keep up the good work with your detox program, you're doing great! :thumbsup2

Too funny about the pig! We have javelina here and they are ugly and stinky and they always travel in packs which makes it especially scary. I would rather deal with a pig than a gator! I think your DH is nuts...

Great job resisting the breakfast burrito! It is getting a little easier on this detox, isn't it? I still have a hard time in the evening, but I did surprisingly well on the weekend. I have been making homemade lemonade with water, lemon juice and Stevia. That is what the ND recommended and I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it is!

You are doing great and if you keep it up you will be back in the 140's for good. :cheer2:

:sunny: The painter showed up! Unfortunately he was delayed and couldn't come until Sunday but he brought a buddy and they finished the entire job that day. I love the color. It's just want my room needed.

I messed up with my eating, actually my drinking, on Saturday night. We went out with some friends. For some reason, I felt I could go out and stay on my detox program. Once I got to the restaurant, everyone was ordering drinks and I decided to have a cosmo. Of course they were two for one. I told myself I'd just drink one and give the second one to my friend, but after drinking one drink all reason left my brain and I finished the second one too. Afterwards, at home, we opened up our blueberry wine. I had a glass of that too. I finished the evening off with 2 cans of Coke. Somehow that seemed better than snacking on dessert or chips and salsa. At the restaurant I ordered well. I had a veggie salad (it came with pinenuts and feta cheese but I decided not to worry about it). The salad was very good. If I hadn't drunk anything I would have been just fine. :guilty:

Yesterday I stayed on track - oatmeal, apple, nf milk, cinamon
veggie burger in a wrap, canteloupe
rice, black beans, spaghetti sauce, onions and peppers

Today -
oatmeal and blueberries, nf milk
garden burger in a wrap, lf cheese wedge

I decided to allow myself to have wraps or I won't survive.

Today while shopping I grew hungry because I hadn't eaten for 6 hours. I kept thinking its too bad that McD's doesn't serve veggie burgers. That'd be a quick, economical, but healthy way to eat fast food. INstead, I waited until I got home and made my own. :)

No workout today but am planning on a long walk tomorrow & a lower body weight workout.

Anna, we seem to get all the bad wildlife...gators, snakes, lizards etc. When ds was about 7 he proudly showed me a treasure he'd picked up and was carrying around in his pocket - snake eggs! Thanks for your encouragement!

CJK, you must've been so disapointed. I've never seen a moose but that sounds a little terrifying. I was thrilled to see deer because we never get to see them where we live. Thanks for stopping by! :sunny:

Kate, you are so lucky. I'd love to be able to see deer everyday. :goodvibes The pig scared me to death because it was so noisy. It kept yelling or squealing or whatever they do...he sounded mad the second time we ran into him,and I was afraid he'd chase after us. I'm glad you're back posting again! Its great to hear from you.

Amy, I've never heard of javelina. The 'travelling in a pack' part is what scares me. I'd hate to meet up with them on a hiking trail. What really made me mad with dh was the day we were walking in the county park and came up to the lake at sunset. He started making those throaty gator noises just to scare me. Thats one animal I don't want to attract.

I'm glad you started making lemon juice. I swear by it. I think thats why I haven't been eating Milk Duds or hot fudge sundaes. Everytime I get a craving I fix a 12oz glass of icy lemon water and by the time I finish it I'm not hungry anymore. We can do this, Amy. :woohoo: It won't be long until we both hit goal.

Hey Jane E.
Just wanted to say I'm back. I'm going to try to catch up a little on your journal so I won't be lost. Happy weight loss! :cheer2:

Glad to hear you're happy with your paint colour! What colour did you choose?

Do American McDonald's not have a lot of healthy choices? Canadian McDonald's have healthier deli sandwiches and a grilled chicken sandwich. I've gotten into the habit of eating the turkey/whole wheat deli sandwich whenever hubby gets a hankering for McD's! Although, maybe these items don't fall under your current eating plan. Great job and resisting and making your own veggie burger at home!

You're doing great! :sunny:
