Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

I love seeing deer!

I've got to spend some time getting caught up on how it's been going but I'm interested in the detox diet you are on. I promise I will go back because I'm sure you've covered it!

Yep, those cocktails will get ya everytime! But at least you didn't drink AND indulge in naughty food. At least alcohol gets flushed out within a couple days, so I think you will be OK.

Javelina are wild boars. They have tusks and everything.

Are you in Ernesto's way? Luckily it is still just a tropical storm, but you never know with these things! At least you got your roof fixed. You never mentioned if the insulation fixed your a/c woes? Hope so!

I am going to use your tactic with the lemon water. Now I can't wait for my friends to start bringing bags of lemons over from their tree (I have to wait a couple months, they aren't ripe yet!)

Wow, Jane, sounds like you have exciting walks!!!

Glad the Detox is going well.... I couldn't do it!

Hope Ernesto stays away from you.

Have a good rest of the week!

I'm on Day 6! Only 3 more to go!!! :smokin:

I got in my workout today!!! :yay: Shadow and I went on a 35 minute trail walk. We had a great walk. I wore her out. When we got home she nosed the door for me to open it. She's never done that before. Usually, she's pulling to do more walking.

Unfortunately, she wasn't the only dog in the park. The other dog was an unleashed pitt bull. :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: The owner was sitting on a picnic table talking on the cell phone. Her dog kept trying to engage my dog in a game of chase as we walked by. As we were leaving I watched her dog run up to another walker and jump up on him, placing it's big paws on his shoulders. If that had been me... (Actually I would have freaked out but since we don't have a freak out smilie the crazy one will do.) As we exited the park the dog was still off leash up by the playground. There were 3 kids and one mom at the playground. They were all on top of the bridge that leads to the slides! I wonder why. Not that I'm prejudiced against pitt bulls but we have a leash law for a reason.

I also did a 15 minute bike ride. By then I was way too tired to fit in my weight workout.

Last night I had a large iced green tea in the evening. Then I couldn't sleep!

#1 banana
#2 eggwhite omelette w/onions,peppers; cheese wedge; canteloupe
#3 tomato basil burger in a wrap
lots of lemon water

Today was a very difficult day. Older ds came over today with his wife. Apparently, he's been having horrific flash headaches (they last about 30 seconds). He's also been having memory loss. We've also noticed that his speech seems slow at times. (No, he does NOT drink.) Furthermore, things take longer for him to process mentally. Today he went to the neurologist. He's been scheduled for an EEG and an MRI.

Zela, its great to have you back. Thanks for stopping by! I'll be checking out your thread to see how you've been doing. :)

CJK, our paint color is Hawaiian Honey but it looks lighter than the paint swatch. How fortunate that your McD's has deli sandwiches. :teeth: Thats a great choice. I'd thought about doing Subway but I didn't want to get out of the car! I didn't want anything to deter me from finding the perfect picture for our office area - even eating! Our McD's does have grilled chix sandwiches but those are way to big for me to eat AND drive.

Beth, I'm doing Dr. Ian Smith's "FAt Smash Diet". I've tweaked it just a bit adding in a low fat cheese wedge and wraps. This past weekend, I tweaked it a little too much when I added in cosmopolitans, :guilty: but overall I'm eating much much better than I was before I started this program. Thanks for stopping by!

Amy, I can't wait until lemons are ripe. :sunny: Like we posted several months back, the home grown ones have a lot more juice.

I'm not too sure about Ernesto. At least he's been downgraded, but I still go into full prep for tropical storms just like I do for hurricanes. All of the utility trucks have converged at the arena in town so they will be close to any damaged areas. The fact that trucks are meeting here tells me that the authorities don't think we'll have a direct hit.

No, our a/c isn't working during the day. Its 82 in here on a sunny day. We're in the process of buying a brand new air conditioner. Our a/c guy came over took measurements and will recommend which one to buy. We'll probably have to upgrade to a bigger unit.

Keep drinkin' that lemon water we're almost done with detox.

Julie, my walks definately haven't been boring lately thats for sure. Sometimes they've been just a little too exciting. I love trail walking. I don't get bored, and its easy on my feet. Thanks for your support! :cool1:

If your walks get anymore exciting, you'll have to wear a helmut! I'm glad the pitbull didn't jump up on you. I would have freaked out too! I don't get how some people think that they're above the law. :confused3

Your paint colour sounds great!

Great job on day 6!! Fantastic! Sending you lots of hugs :grouphug: where ds is concerned. Hopefully he'll be able to get some answers quickly. :goodvibes

I think I would have called the police about that pit pull. It's just not safe for any dog to be running amok, especially a pit bull!

Lots of PD and hugs for your DS. :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: :wizard: I really hope everything turns out OK for him. You must be worried sick. Hang in there!

I can't believe you can have bananas and cantaloupe on your detox. I am so jealous! Have you noticed a difference in your clothes yet? Do you think you have lost any weight?

I have discovered a surefire way to decrease cravings and lose weight without any exercise at all. Its called "take 3 aspirin on an empty stomach plan". It works. I haven't had any Milk Dud cravings at all. Unfortunately I felt like an idiot when I had to leave work after one hour this afternoon. (I couldn't find the "stupid" smilie so this one will have to do!)

Workout: cancelled

#1 watermelon, 3 aspirin (due to neck pain upon waking), veggie wrap, lf cheese wedge
#2 banana
#3 lots of cola
Meal #4 will be chix noodle soup

Thanks for your pd for ds. You never know what life is going to throw at you. I guess we'll just have to wait until the test results come in.

CJK, I'm so glad I finally got our office finished. I'd love to work on our bedroom next but we've got to get that new a/c in first. I hope I don't meet up with that darn dog the next time we go. I think someone will definately report the owner if she makes a habit of taking the dog to the park off leash. A pitt bull stands out in a crowd. By the way, the other walker who got jumped on did NOT look happy.

Amy, I don't know if I've lost any weight but I do feel better. I have more energy. When I started detox I actually felt uncomfortable from all of the bad foods I'd been eating. That yucky feeling is gone. However, my size 12s still don't fit. I can't believe I did this to myself. Before I went on my 'end of the summer binge' my 12s were getting loose. I'm just glad that I've taken steps to correct the situation before I gained anymore weight.

What a drag to take aspirin for the neck pain and only have it cause more problems. Hope you are doing better now. Lots of P & PD for your DS :wizard: .

Wow, I didn't realize aspirin was that hard on your system! I always take Advil and have never had problems. At least your cravings went away! :goodvibes

Yes, you are doing a good thing by nipping your eating in the butt before it gets out of control. Just think, the holidays are right around the corner and I know you want to be in a "good place" by that time! If you have that "what's the use" attitude that we all get sometimes it makes it REALLY hard to get through all the food and party temptations!

Keep it up, I am glad you are having more energy. Maybe you can send some my way since I have been completely zapped the last couple days... :confused3

Wow - I didn't know aspirin is that so hard on you either. I hope you're feeling better now. Hope you have time to have a little fun this weekend. Sounds like you're on track again and will be able to enjoy the holiday season at a good weight!

My weigh in today was 154.6. I lost 4.4 lbs. However, today I felt like crap and had pb&j on toast for meals #2 and #3. Meal #1 was chicken & rice soup which I shared with the dog. Yesterday I ended up drinking 3 - 12oz of coke and today I had 1 - 12 oz of coke. I didn't realize until last evening that aspirin also causes internal bleeding. On the phone my friend told me I should get to a doctor and switch to Aleve! I calmly explained to her that I felt way too sick to go to the doctor. I think I will switch to a new pain reliever, aspirin and acetaminophen just don't do it for me.

This morning as I was laying in bed dh told me there was a problem with the toilets. I told him it had to be the septic since we've lived here for 6 years and never had it pumped. He got on the phone immediately. The septic company said they would show up late this afternoon or tomorrow. I prayed HARD! They showed up at 2pm.

My stomach is feeling better but not great. I couldn't go into work today for our Titanic Dinner party. I felt bad but I'm way too weak and still feel awful. I've never had problems with aspirin before. I don't think I'll ever take any ever again.

Anna, I agree! I thought the neck pain was bad. Periodically, my neck will give me grief and I take aspirin instead of muscle relaxants because I can still work and drive. I always thought it was the lesser of two evils. Thanks for the PD :wizard:

Amy, you should have more energy now because mine is all gone! Being up until 2:30am definately didn't help. I feel like I'm starting from square one again. At least I like this eating program, and I even may redo the detox since I went off of it yesterday. I was watching an old "National Body Challenge" from Discovery Health Channel. They explained how losing weight was harder after 40. I believe them!

CJK, I'm resting up for this weekend. I'm scheduled for work, and I want to make it in without any problems. I felt horrible leaving the residents in the middle of our 'poker dice' game. They looked so disapointed as I hurriedly grabbed my stuff, put on golden oldie music, and ran out the door.

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:
I think we need all the pd we can get! Here's hoping that September will arrive without any household or health breakdowns for any of us!

Sending you some pixie dust too! :goodvibes Hope you have a good weekend at work, while feeling healthy and strong. September is here which means it's time for a bit of a fresh start. Congrats on the weightloss! :cheer2: :cheer2: That's a nice way to start the month too! Take care of yourself.

YAY on the loss!!!!!! :cool1: :Pinkbounc  :yay: :cheer2: :thumbsup2 Weight loss hard after 40? Try after 33! That is when mine came to a screeching halt. I hope you are feeling better. Sorry for sucking some of your energy from you, I do feel tons better today. Of course that is after 3 (soon to be 4) days of not working out... I will get back on routine Monday and hopefully you will be able to as well! :wizard:

Is your detox over? Are you going to do another 9 days?

Today was uneventful. I'm just trying to feel better. I did work for our business and tons of laundry. In between I rested. For all three meals I had toast pb&j - also 1/2 banana. Thankfully, I don't need the Coke anymore.

Yesterday - cheese pizza for dinner - 4 slices

CJK, thanks for the congrats & pd. I'm ready to get back to work. I miss my old people. :sunny: This week did not end well but I want to get back on track.

Amy, I'm with you on next week. I'm so sick of detox. I need a break. However, I want to start back up next week. I watched a little of Oprah today. Her trainer said the important thing was to be consistent. Set your workout goals and then stick to it. Its better to exercise 15 minutes a day consistently than to have the 'all or nothing' mentality. I need to keep that in my head. :umbrella:

I hope you are feeling better soon. :grouphug: PBJ toast is my "feel better" food too. Of course, it has to go with a glass of milk. :teeth:

Thanks for posting the stuff about being consistent. I definitely need to remember that. So many times I have rationalized my way out of exercising with "I don't have enough time for a good work out" rather than "some workout is better than NO workout."

Have a good weekend. :sunny:

Hi Jane,

Congrats on the loss. :cheer2:

Hope you're feeling better - that the neck pain is gone and wow, weird reaction to the aspirin!

P&PD for your DS. Hope he can find some answers and figure out what to do. Sounds scary.

Have a good weekend! :woohoo:

Just a quick note to say I hope you're feeling better. I hope you were able to pick up where you left off in that poker dice game!!

Wow, I am one of those all or nothing types... :rolleyes1

I hope you are having a great, healthy weekend and that you are back to 100% feeling better!

What is your eating plan for this coming week? Detox or just eating sensibly?

I had a fun, relaxing day yesterday. I hope everyone's Labor Day was as labor free as mine! :snail: I took Mom out for an early lunch (11am). Then dh and I went to the grounds of the Ringling Museums where we met my brother and his girlfriend. I did a ton of walking there. There have trolleys but dh and I declined them and walked EVERYWHERE - including steps.

We had an appetizer for dinner on the grounds. It turned out to be the perfect choice. Neither one of us were stuffed - it was a lite meal. Afterwards, we went to the marina for margaritas. Normally we'd get quesadillas or chips with artichoke dip but I opted for a cup of chili. As bad as the margaritas were it'd be worse if I had an unlimited supply of chips and dip. We also walked around the marina.

I'm counting 30 minutes of walking but we probably did 60 minutes or more.

#1 cup of creamy ham & asparagus, 1 blueberry muffin
#2 1/2 antipasto, 1 1/2 slices of homemade rosemary bread w/olive spread, champagne
#3 2 margaritas, 1/2c chili
#4 pnut butter toast & jam

Food for today
#1 tomato basil burger, cranberry juice
#2 pnut butter banana toast

I'm going to fix chix fajitas for dinner - they're marinating as I write.

Anna, I agree. :sunny: It would be so much easier if I'd just get up, do 20 minutes of exercise and then get on with my day. At least I'd have a basic workout in for the day instead of waiting for a 60 minute block of time.

Kate, I'm looking forward to September being a much healthier, better month. I love your sunset pic on your siggie. What a great firework's display! :wave2:

CJK, I feel much better. I was glad to get back to work. Once I get in there I forget about everything else. I love getting paid for de-stressing. :yay: Many of my residents used to love tennis so we watched Andre on Sunday. They loved it! It made the day fly by.

Amy, I just want to eat sensibly this week. :cool1: I may wait until the Biggest Loser starts later this month for another round of detox. It all started out so well. I need to get back to my theme of being consistent with my eating as well as working out. I'm trying to keep my workouts fun so I look forward to doing them as opposed to having to do them.

Off the subject, I was sad to hear about the Crocodile Hunter yesterday. We'd never even heard of him until we were on vacation years ago. The hotel got Animal Planet which our cable didn't have at the time. We all fell in love with the show - it was the episode where his poor newlywedded wife falls into the river with the croc. I could barely watch the episode. Afterwards, I came home and waged a telephone campaign with our cable company to add Animal Planet. Unfortunately, at that time, we lost out to the Game Show Network!!??! It wasn't too much longer until they finally added in the show.

Glad to hear you had such a great time, and made healthier choices and even got some exercise in! Good job.

I was also terribly sad to hear about Steve Irwin. Never have I known someone with such a zest for life. :(

Hope you have a great week. You made me have a hankering for fajitas. Tomorrow night!
