Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Happy Anniversary!!! Hope you had a wonderful time! :sunny:

(what is the date - the 27th? That's DS's birthday - he turned 17)

We got an upgrade!!!!!

I couldn't believe it! We had such a fantastic time.

We arrived at The Rainforest Cafe in time for lunch. Since dh and I are appetizer people we split the cocoanut shrimp and the crabmeat dip. I also had a Mongo Mai Tai - delicious! I didn't upgrade to the free glass - didn't want that much of a Mai Tai that early. We bought RFC drinking glasses for ds and his wife. I also talked dh into buying a tee shirt.

Then we headed over to The Titanic with our AAA tix. The exhibit itself was interesting. The "tour guides" knew their stuff. I love those Irish accents. We spent about an hour at the exhibit. Younger ds is a Titanic fan so we bought him a drinking glass as well as a re-created newspaper featuring stories on the disaster. The Mercado shopping center is sad - really really sad. 90% of it is closed. We had about a 20 minute wait until our tour started and we couldn't find an indoor place to sit and wait. The entire food court was closed and locked up tight. It was hot so I ended up getting a Pina Colada that I couldn't finish. I should have just gotten a bottle of water. I ended up with a headache about an hour after I drank the pina colada. Those drinks definately aren't for drinking in a hurry.

Next, we headed over to the Gaylord Palms. Dh and I got into a "discussion" on the way. I wanted him to valet the car. He wanted to self park. Upon arrival, he won. I went into check in. While checking in, I was offered an upgrade for $75 to a suite that normally sells for $850. I thought for about 3 seconds and took it! After registering and getting our keys dh was still not in the resort. I phoned him. He was still driving around looking for self parking. I talked him into valeting the car.http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylordpalms/tour/photos-staugustine.cfm

(The first pic shows the view from our room.)

The room was wonderful. Upon entering, there was a dining table, couch, chairs, leather ottomon, entertainment center with tv and dvd, wet bar with a mini fridge. We had TWO balconies, a nice sized bathroom with a tiled shower, a king size bed, french doors opposite the bed that led to our second balcony, and a computer with free internet access.

On our balcony we heard a guitar player singing. For dinner we decided to find out where he was entertaining and go there. It led us to a seafood place - the one that has the bar on the boat. We had the best appetizers - the Three Tiered Appetizer for Two. It had everything from lobster tail, crab salad, cigar shrimp, shrimp cocktail, conch fritters, grilled pinapple, ahi tuna tartar (dh ate all of the tuna), udon noodles and vegetable toss. It was all portioned for two people - just right for dinner. We also split a bottle of white zin. Our dinner was leisurely - we enjoyed the guitarist, the fire eater, and the guy on stilts!http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylordpalms/tour/photos-keywest.cfm (This is where we ate dinner - Sunset Sams.)

After dinner we strolled around the atrium. Of course, I had to visit the Godiva shop - we bought a brownie and some chocolate. We also bought a muffin top at the Java shop. We put these in our room to save for eating at 2am. (The choc bars we took home with us - and didn't eat that night.)

Later, we went to the dueling piano bar. Hardly anyone was there - we felt like we had our own private entertainment. They played every one of our requests from The Allman Bros to Billy Joel to some one hit wonders. I was surprised that they did not know Daniel Powters - You Had a Bad Day. What kind of piano players don't know that song!?!

We splurged and requested room service for breakfast. We split eggs benedict (with mushroom and asparagus - dh got all of my mushrooms) and cinamon roll french toast, oj, and dh made coffee. (The room came with a cd player.) We played our Billy Joel cds while eating and reading the poker article in USA today. (We love watching poker & reading about it we just can't play it!)

We took another stroll around the grounds, noticing the baby gators, turtley, fish etc. Then we were all out of money so it was time to get home. After eating at Victoria and Alberts at the Grand Floridian last year I didn't think anything could ever top it - but the whole experience at the Gaylord Palms was very casual - but very fun. We had a blast.

We arrived home to cat problems - which I won't go into now. After handling those problems I was exhauted from everything! I ended up feeling mean, grouchy and tearful so I went to bed at 8pm. I don't remember what I ate.

I decided to treat the weekend as a continuation of our vacation since we're not going to take a vacation this year. Saturday we slept in until 11:30am. Dh brought home ribs for dinner. Then we opened up the Mango Champagne - I had 3 glasses -that stuff is excellent!

This morning I woke up at 10am, threw on my clothes and made a McD's run. We had cinamon rolls and breakfast burritos. We opened up ANOTHER bottle of champgane - (regular champagne - Rotari) and I made mimosas. We stayed in bed all day eating, drinking and watching cheesy movies. For dinner dh made a Panini Bread run. They didn't have my Chicken Frontega for some reason. I haven't eaten there in ages and ages because their food is so darn high in fat and when I finally get to splurge - they don't have my favorite sandwich!!! When they first opened we used to order their sandwiches twice a month - until I saw the fat gram count. I think its been about a year since I've been there. Dh had the guy make me up a chix panini but it wasn't the same. I also had two cokes with my sandwich - which is why I'm posting this now. I can't sleep - I'm not used to drinking cokes and two put me over!

I did a ton of walking for our trip and ate horribly. Now its really time to settle down, calm down and do the right thing!

Thanks, Amy, Anna and Kate! Our actual anniversary is the 28th; however, for our schedule the 27th and 28th worked better than the 28th and 29th. I heard that our resort was only 35% filled that may be why we got the upgrade. Apparently, not many conventions are held in Florida in July! Kate, happy birthday to your ds!! :wizard:

Wow, what a gorgeous place! Sounds like you had a great time, and enjoyed some awesome food! :thumbsup2

What a bummer that your fave splurge sandwich was not available.

You can get out of vacation mode and back into healthy eating mode this week. :yay:

I will have to try the mango champagne, I've only tried the mango wine, which is yummy!

I've got good and bad to report - on the negative side my weight was 158 today. On the positive side  I did 120 minutes for my workout today:
30 of yoga, 30 of weights & 60 of walking. I finally made it to the beach! What a wonderful way to workout. 690/1000

#1 oatmeal w/banana, almonds and cocoanut, nf milk
#2 3/4 of a pita w/hummus, 1/3 C of grapes
#3 veggie burger (finally!) on a bun
#4 hot pepper cheese, grapes and strawberries

:tinker:

My aunt died - we knew it wouldn't be long since she was in hospice. Also my uncle is in the hospital. Everything hits at once when people get older. My mom is doing better dealing with everything. I know it has to be tough.

As for my animals - we had to leave orlando a few hour early because the kitty had started urinating on our couch in the family room. Upon returning home our vet got us in right away. She had blood and crystals in her urine so they had to increase her meds. Our original cat, QT is doing better. And I've contracted ringworm! RINGWORM!!! from the kitty. They kept her overnight at the vet just to make sure she didn't have anything else to give us! She's back and we kept her in the bathroom with her bed, food & litter box. She actually started using the box again so we've started allowing her more time out of the bathroom but at night we still keep her in there. QT seems to have relaxed since she has time away from the kitty. Part of QT's problems was that the kitten was contantly following her. I haven't heard any hissing today.

Amy, you've gotta try that mango champagne. Dh and I both love it! It costs even more than the mango wine though. Ouch!

I posted earlier today - in between appointments - the server was busy and I lost everything. This time I'm copying BEFORE I post! :badpc:

Great job getting that workout in! Bummer about the weigh-in, but it's only temporary. You'll get back down soon!

I am sorry to hear about your aunt and uncle. And I can't believe you got ringworm from the cat! How do you cure it?

You've had quite the traumatic few days! I hope things calm down soon for you. :grouphug:

Can't believe we made it thru August already! The next 6 days are going to be super busy for me. I hope I can keep up with everything.

Finishing my meals from yesterday
last meal: hot pepper cheese and asparagus

Today
#1 grapes and hot pepper cheese
#2 asparagus, hot pepper cheese & cranberry juice, 1 mocha bar
#3 1 taco (I added in black beans so I wouldn't use so much ground sirloin in mine.) cranberry juice, mocha bar

I haven't been getting in enough veggies. Last night when I made the asparagus I made extra. I ate the leftover asparagus with my lunch today. I'll have to do that from now on. Its much better than raw carrots or celery.

Mom's cleaning lady quit coming. I don't know what happened. When Mom's sister went into the hospital Mom started acting very stange. I think she might have told her cleaning lady she didn't need her. I placed a call to her cleaning lady but haven't heard from her since last week. AAccckk!!! We really need her.

Amy, thanks for your concern. Its been crazy here & only continues to get worse! Ringworm is a fungus. Lotrimin (for athletes foot) has worked so far. The vet told me if it didn't to contact my doctor. Thankfully, I don't think I'll need to do that.

Oh dear, sorry to hear about your aunt, and your uncle.

Ringworm! hope that clears up soon, one of my kids had that a long time ago, not fun, but not life-threatening either. good luck!

You've had a hectic time - but sounds like you're doing ok with it.

You like that hot pepper cheese - I do too, but I have to fight my oldest DD for it - she loves anything hot, and douses everything with hot sauce! :sunny:

Good idea making the extra veggies. I do that a lot but lately DH has been eating them with his leftovers. Oh well, he needs to eat more veggies too!

I'm glad the ringworm is under control. When DS was a baby, he had 2 red rings on his tummy and the Dr thought it was ringworm and gave me a cream. But it would go away, come back, go away, come back and the Dr was stumped. Finally I was changing him and noticed that the snaps on one of his jammies had lost their coating and guess what - the rings lined up perfectly. He was having a reaction to the metal touching his skin!

I hope you can get your mom's cleaning lady back, or at least find someone else that can do it.

I'm still 158. My pants felt tight today. I re weighed. 158 :guilty: I did 20 minutes of cardio this morning. 20/1000
I'm not doing any "official" challenges but will keep track on my own for this month. I'm not going to feel guilty. I'm just going to take one day at a time, and 'hang in there'! :cool2:

#1 cereal/slivered almonds, 1/2 peach, nf milk, oj
#2 granola bar
#3 veggie bean burger on a bun, oj
#4 veggie burger on bun w/lf cheese, cranberry juice

Kate, that hot pepper cheese is the best! I know that if I add that to any meal dh will be happy. Looks like your daughter is following in your footsteps - must be hereditary. My mother tells me that my grandfather loved hot stuff - ds is the same way.

P.S. I never knew what in the heck ringworm was until this week! Now, I"ll never forget! My finger has cleared up but the kitty still has spots - we have her on meds and shampoo. I started giving her the Lotrimin today. Don't tell my vet!

Amy, omigod, thats awful - you're poor baby. When we were in the mountains in GA a physician's asst once misdiagnosed ds as having SCABIES! The meds never worked - we cut short our vacation and came home to see our reliable pediatrician who diagnosed ds with poison ivy that got into his blood stream. You must've been just as upset as me!!! Thank God, you were observant and figured out what was causing the problem. Did you ever tell the doctor?

Kate and Amy, thanks for your support!!! :sunny: :sunny:

I see you finally got your veggie burgers! There were some really yummy ones at Costco that I will have to pick up next time we go (I think we are going tomorrow).

I did tell the Dr about the snaps and he got a chuckle out of it. My brother got misdiagnosed with scabies too - except his ended up being an allergic reaction to my mom's new laundry detergent! :rotfl:

I'm sorry to hear your pants are tight. They will get back to fitting well. You were just on a celebration vacation, for cryin' out loud, a gain is expected! Your food looks a lot better so it won't be long!

Jane, it's never boring, is it???

The tattoo made me laugh (sorry) My DS20 came home on his 18th bday with a large heart/scroll tattoo on his upper arm with the name of his then girlfriend in it. All I could say was 'welcome to the first mistake of adulthood'. It was so awful it was pathetic. Now, of course, Ashley is long gone and the tattoo remains along with new tattoos on his hip and both wrists. I could just DIE!!! And my DH is a very prim/proper/stodgy engineer!

Hope the ringworm is getting better & the kitties start being not quite so needy.

I just looked up your wine website and may have to place an order.

Have a great weekend!!

I re re weighed today - 156.8. I'm heading in the right direction. :bounce:

40/1000 - 20 minutes of cardio today.

#1 cereal w/ slivered almonds, 1/2 peach and nf milk, oj
#2 My neighbor and I went out for lunch before I had to work today. 1 bowl of chix fajita soup, 1 muffin w/butter
#3 spice cake and apple juice (at work)
#4 one salmon patty, oj

Amy, what's going on with the scabie misdiagnoses? The meds for scabies are very strong too. I felt so bad for ds. I hope your brother fared ok.

Julie, what the heck is it with these tatoos? Is your son feeling a little sheepish these days over his "Ashley" tattoo? At least he will make enough money to get the darned tatoo removed if he wants. I just can't get over how many young people have tatoos nowadays. I've never liked them.

Yay, the weight is going down! :cheer2: That chicken fajita soup sounds great!

My brother is a big dork, but I don't think he can blame that on the scabies medication... :lmao:

I about gave DH a coronary yesterday. I gave my neighbor (the one who watches my kids in the mornings and gets them to school) a bottle of Mango Mama. It's the least we could do, she saves us so much $$ in daycare! I told him be happy I didn't give her the Category 5!

Great job getting the daily cardio in. :yay:

156.6 - slow and steady

Today I did a 70 minute workout - 40 minutes of walking & 30 minutes of circuit training. I was very careful to do my lunges slowly - I don't want anymore sore knees

110/1000

#1 cereal, 6 strawberries, nf milk, oj
#2 chix, veggie stir fry

I felt like such a dork at the pet store the other day. There was a 40lb bag of kitty litter. I had no doubts that I could lift it. A nice gentleman offered to lift it for me and I said no thanks - I could get it. (After all I do workout with weights a couple times a week.) I went to pick up the bag and could not stand up...I ended up (not so carefully placing (ok throwing would be a better word) the bag back on the floor.) I couldn't believe I couldn't pick it up. I know if it had been on a shelf I'd have done it! Thankfully, the nice gentleman put it in my cart. I can't believe how totally weak I am. I need to add boot camp to my regime.

Amy, I don't blame dh for being upset about the bottle - but you're awfully fortunate to have a neighbor watch your kids for free. Finding good aftercare can be very difficult. As a compromise with dh, take all of the money you've saved on aftercare and invest it in more wine! That way you'll both be happy.

I would become a raging wino if I spent that much money on wine! She saves $150/week. Last Christmas we got their family a little fake tree and we tied several hundred dollars of gift cards on it (Target, Outback, etc). And we gave it to them on Christmas Eve so they couldn't rush out and buy us something in return. They were so grateful, but I just can't thank her enough!

That is funny about the kitty litter. I did that at work with the water bottle. A guy asked if he wanted me to change it (I was just about to) and I said "No, I do it all the time" and of course I proceeded to spill water all over the place...

Great job getting that workout in and listening to your body. I hate squats and lunges, but you can't beat them for shaping those legs! :yay:

Hi Jane,

Had to laugh at the kitty litter story. :rotfl2:

I always feel like a weakling, even when I'm good at working out, I never feel like I have any strength. I play on that too, and get my DS to do things, and I'm also short, so I get all my kids, who are mostly taller than me, to reach things for me all the time.

Keep up the good work, downward trend with the weight, and your exercising is good. :thumbsup2

Phew! I can't believe how quicky this weekend went. We were very busy. I'm definately not eating right. Saturday dh and I had neighbors over after I got off work - we got in ribs, chicken wings, celery, carrot stix and dip - along with our peach wine.

Sunday we had a huge family dinner at my inlaws. There was family visiting from up north so we had a big houseful. It was wonderful seeing everyone, and we had a great time. There was lots of picnic style foods and salads. I filled up on potato salad, fruit salad and chocolate chip cookies.

We got into a big discussion on weightloss. Everyone it seemed is on some kind of a diet. Dh's neice in law has lost about 25lbs since the last time we saw her. She looks great. Of course, having 8 children helps keep her busy. The entire family looks fit and healthy. They're into juicing - they juice 5 days a week - having juice with their lunch. Thats a lot of work but it has definately paid off. Of course, they don't eat junk food or sodas.

So far today I haven't eaten anything - I'm just chillin'.

Amy, what a thoughtful gift for your babysitter! You must live in a lovely neighborhood. I hope you're able to find some of our Florida fruit flavored wines in AZ!

Kate, its nice having strong, tall sons! I'm always asking ds to carry something or reach something for me. He loves it!

I'm sorry to hear your food has been less than stellar, but I know you will get back on track soon! I'm too lazy to have a juicer, but I know people who love theirs!

My neighborhood is pretty nice. It is all custom homes, which is a welcome change to the cookie cutter neighborhoods that seem to dominate this area! Did you hear about the 2 serial killers in Phoenix? Well, the ones that they caught (the other serial killer(s) is still on the loose) lived less than 3 miles away from us and the last murder was about 4 blocks away from our house (a woman was walking down the street and they shot her). :scared1: Needless to say, we haven't been to the park for a while... I'm glad they finally caught those #&$^#% morons.

I also hope I can find some FL wines here soon. Of course that means I actually have to go to World Market and request they order some... :rolleyes1

Last night I got up in the middle of the night for more water. Dh was sound asleep so I didn't turn on a light. (I'd forgotten to put on my nightlight in our bathroom.) Coming back into the room I tripped into the table next to my bed. I ended up on the floor, on top of the table with a lamp on my back. I have two huge black and blue marks. I can't believe I did that! And I ended up waking dh up anyway so I should have just turned on the light.

No workout today.
#1 cereal w/ 1/2 sliced peach, slivered almonds, nf milk
#2 pizza veggie burger - ds loves them too so now we're both fighting over them.
#3 1/4 banana pnut butter sandwich, 1 macadamia nut cookie & 1 choc chip cookie
#4 1 C of tortellini w/vodka spaghetti sauce, corn on the cob, 1 handful of peanut M&Ms

Omigod Amy, that is really really scary!!! I don't blame you for not going to the park. Thats just awful. I'm so glad that one has been caught but I can't believe that there were two serial killers in one city. I saw a story on tv about it the other day. Thats just way too scary. Be careful!!! pixiedust:

Vodka spaghetti sauce? How was that? I didn't think vodka would add much flavor. There is a restaurant here that makes an amaretto mushroom sauce to die for.

I see you had a little chocolate attack yesterday! I did too, I ate some of the kids' Double Chocolate Cookie Crisp. It only takes a small handful to get rid of that chocolate craving. Maybe you should get a box for your times of need! :teeth:

I hope your bruises go away soon. I think your DH would have rather been waken up by the light than by crashing noises!
