Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Hi Jane! How are you? It's been a long time since I've been here but you were always such a support for me I wanted to stop in and say hi and let you know I'm back :) Hope to "chat" soon ;) hugss

Jen :fish:

Hi Jane!!!! I'm sorry to see I wasn't the only one misbehaving and gaining over the holiday...

We went to see Pirates of the Caribbean #2. I can't decide if I'm more :lovestruc with Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom... :confused3

That dessert sounds great! Of course I could never make it because I would end up eating half of it in 1 sitting and the other half the next day to "get rid" of it...

We are going to get back on track this week. You are already off to a great start with squeezing in workouts all day long! :cheer2:

We got a new furbaby!!! :cat: Since our 10 year old dog has arthritis our 16 month old kitty has no one to really hang out and play with. They play abouat 30 seconds a day. Dh and I talked about getting a cat to keep our cat company, especially since we made a decision to not allow her outside anymore.

I'm exhausted...

We wanted a cat but looked at this 4month old and she was just so cute. She's all black with white on hew paws and a dab of white on her chest. She had my grandmother's name and my fathers birthday was her intake date at the shelter. Her name was Ellen but when they looked for her envelope it said "Edgar". I told dh that was a sign we should name her Edgar Ellen Poe but he didn't think so.

We bought a big old bone for the dog and after letting her see the new furbaby arrive in the cardboard box we put the dog outside. We settled new furbaby on my bed and the cat came in. Not so good... my dear sweet loving 16 month old hissed and hissed and hissed. After 6 hisses I removed her. I went into the other room when I came back in dh was on the floor - it seems new furbaby ran uner bed, old furbaby went chasin' her down, dh lunged after old furbaby and grabbed her hind section, picked her up and carried her out to the livingroom. WHen he set her down she promptly hissed at him. She's never done that before.

So we're keeping the animals separated with new furbaby in our room. Last night the new kitty was under the bed and would not come out. I felt so bad - she'd been with a bunch of cute cuddly kitties and now she was hiding under my bed. Finally I enticed her out and she slept on a pillow next to me.

Today I couldn't get her out again - finally did - then a motorcycle drove by and she hid back under there again!!! I feel so bad. I don't know what to do!! We got our old cage out of the garage and put her in it to allow the dog to see her. The dog really wants to see her I hope she accepts her soon.

Yesterday we had 2 meals -
cereal and fruit, oj
spicy shrimp appetizer, part of dh's salad, bread w/herbs/oil, a few bites of dh's pasta, 2 lemon drop martinis

Daughter in law just happened to call when we brought home the cat. She came over to see the animals so dh and I could go out for dinner. She's in love with the new kitten.

I did a 30 minute walk today.

#1 cereal, nonfat milk
#2 grilled cheese
#3 dinner will probably be a ham/cheese on rye

Amy, you're back!!! How was the trip? You managed to get in a ton of exercise too, great job!!

I have to agree with you about the Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom thing. They are both gorgeous. Everyone is raving about POTC - it must be really good.

I just finished reading a book that I grabbed from the new nonfiction at the library. It was about the MIT engineering students who "broke" Vegas. I don't care how much they won - it was just way too much darn work and trouble. I never knew engineering students from Boston could get into so much trouble.

Anna, I saw Deathtrap on Broadway when dh and I went with a group in 1980. I don't remember who was in that version; although, I've still got that playbill somewhere around here. Michael Caine is another actor who I really like. Anna, you might want to see Superman in person. I'm glad I saw it even though its not one of my favorites. The cinematic shots are amazing.

Jen its great to see you again. I wondered what happened to you. Welcome back! :cheer2:

Awwww, I am so jealous your new furbaby slept on a pillow next to you. :cloud9: Hopefully, everyone will "get along" soon and new furbaby will settle in.

Ahh, the joys of introducing new pets. Since cats are so territorial and so stuck on their "routine" it can take a few weeks to get everyone to tolerate each other.

I once read an analogy that seemed pretty apt. How would you feel if the government assigned a random stranger to come live in your house where they would have access to your food, your bed, and your bathroom? Even if they were the nicest person in the world, you would still be a little discombobulated for a while, right?

It sounds like you're doing the right thing keeping them apart. That way they can sniff each other and get used to their scents. I wouldn't worry too much about the hissing. If your big cat meant to hurt the little cat, you would have no doubt about her intentions. There might be a few scuffles as they work out territory and hierarchy, but it's usually easier with a kitten since they're impressionable.

Good luck to you! It's very nice of you to get a playmate for QT and the new one sounds so cute! I love tuxedo cats! (Magellan & Diana are gray tuxedos)

Last night the new kitty slept under our bed. At 6am sharp she jumped up and snuggled next to me for about an hour. At 9am dh and I decided to let in QT. She literally had a hissy fit. The poor kitty was eating her food when QT peeked around the corner and began hissing. The little kitty quit eating and started walking towards QT then decided better and ducked behind my purse. AFter 15 minutes of hissing & staring QT left.

Right now I've got our older animals with me in the office but the sliders closed. I opened the bedroom door so the kitty can get out. 5 minutes ago when I looked she was investigating the bedroom our animals use. I hope this doesn't take long!

My workout today: 40 minutes of circuit training. :cool1:

#1 cereal nf milk :)
#2 I went out to eat with a neighbor - crab cake sandwich w/fries :guilty: - i

Anna, I felt bad leaving the kitty under the bed all night but she would NOT come out. This morning, though, was a different story. She's such a sweetie and has the cutest meow - it sounds like a squeak toy.

Pearliq, I'm getting tired - I hope this hissin' & fussin' ends sooon! A guy I know told me to use our sliding glass doors to separate the animals - that way they can see each other but there is no danger. This morning's scene was NOT good - I feel so bad for my new kitty. When I saw her at PetSmart the shelter had her in a cage with 2 other kitties - they were all snuggled together so cute. :cat: :cat: :cat: She left her nice warm snuggly cage for HERE!

Wow, how traumatic for the poor new kitty! I'm sure they will get used to each other soon. The big kitty is just jealous she has to share her space.

You are doing great with your workouts! :cheer2:

You need to see Pirates (Milk Dud-free of course!). It was awesome. The only thing I didn't like was the ending - it might have well said "TO BE CONTINUED" at the end... Now I have to wait until next May to see the 3rd one!

My trip was great, thanks for asking! I ate SO MUCH junk that by the end of the week I was really sick of food... It feels great to be eating healthy again!

I hurt my knees doing circuit training yesterday! :sad2: I did three different types of squats. At the very last squat exercise I was going to do one set of 10 and only made it to one set of five because of the pain in my knee. I think I just strained it but I'm resting today.

I had a friend over for lunch and we ate horribly. We both decided yesterday that we wanted hot dogs, hot fudge sundaes and cokes for today. I bought everything at the grocery store when I took Mom shopping so it was premediated overeating! I think we're trying to live out our second childhood early! :artist: (Thats me with a red hat and a purple dress - I'm just a few decades too young.)

Mom cracked me up! Her grocery bill was $12. As my bill was totaling I told her to guess how much my bill would be. She suggested $50. I countered with "over $100". She looked at the cashier and said, "I raised my daughter better than that!" She was stunned that the final bill was $115. :rotfl: Times change!

The lady from the shelter phoned me to see how the kitty was doing. Things are slowly improving. Actually last night the cat and kitty chased each other back and forth. They played a little this morning but so far this afternoon big cat's been ignoring little kitty. I still hear an occasional hiss and my big old dog just scares the heck out of that little baby cat. I held the kitty and my dog licked her but I don't think the kitty felt comfortable. I don't blame her!

Amy, love your new thread. You're off to a great start! I've heard all of these rave reviews about Pirates - I netflixed the first one, watch half of it and returned it. I guess if I'm going to see a movie I need to get into the theater. Your exercise minutes are piling up! :thumbsup2 Great job!

Premeditated overeating!! :rotfl2:

That sounds so funny, but I guess that's what I do every time I buy candy at Walgreens at work. I KNOW I wont eat just a few pieces, so why buy the darn stuff!!??

Good luck with you new kitty settling in and them getting along. Sounds like a lot of work, but will be worth it. I love our cat, but he would never tolerate another animal in the house. We used to have a bird, good thing it was safe in the cage!

Hot dog craving here today too! :rotfl2: Didn't think about the hot fudge sundaes, but yummy!

Glad the furbabies are starting to get used to each other. Hope your knee feels better after some rest today.

Things have quieted down on the animal front. Some chasing back and forth and nose rubbing but thankfully NO MORE HISSING! The older cat is quietly tolerating the new furbaby - not much playing.

I was stuffed after my hotdog and hot fudge sundae yesterday. I didn't grill out until about 7:30pm then I had 5 bites of steak and a bunch of jalapeno cheese.

Today I had another chilidog for breakfast with, you guessed it a hot fudge sundae!

My knee doesn't hurt but its tender - still resting it.

Kate, you should be banned from Walgreens! That store is nuthin' but trouble for you. I don't know why I've been in this junk food eating funk lately :confused3 but I can totally relate!

Anna, now I'm a bad influence on fellow dissers!! :guilty: Stick with the Hurricanes - they're much more fun! I am sleeping better and not feeling as guilt ridden about the animals. The dog has even calmed down a bit. I'm hoping it won't be long until everyone settles down and gets along.

Boy, I don't even think that is the first time you've had a hot fudge sundae for breakfast!!! :rotfl:

Bummer about your knee - I hate squats for that very reason. If you are just a little off on your form, you can do some major damage! I'm glad it is starting to feel a little better.

Yay the cats are getting along! I bet before long they will be playing like old pals.

You need to re-rent Pirates #1 then go to the movies to see Pirates #2. Johnny Depp looks even better in the 2nd one...

Yay the animals are discussing a truce. Chilli dog and hot fudge sundae for breakfast? Throw in a beer and that is worthy of some of my college days :rotfl2: .

Nah, not a bad influence. It is good for me to see that real food is still available. Some times it seems like I have so far to go weightwise. I just have to remember that it takes time and persistence. If I have a bad day, don't throw in the towel. Get back in control and keep going. You have lost nearly 30 lbs and are one of the people I look to for inspiration (even with your hot fudge sundaes!). :cheer2:

Hi Jane,

Glad the animals have settled down, hope your knee is doing better, and what the heck - sundae for breakfast??!! :rotfl2:

Hope you do well this weekend, we all have those goof-up days, but just have to move on and do better the next day. :goodvibes

18 year old DS got a tatoo!!!! :furious: AAaackk! :furious: No wonder why I eat chili cheese dogs and hot fudge sundaes for breakfast. :furious: My friend with three sons, who are all tatooless, consoled me on the phone for an hour last night. No wonder why she's so thin!

My mother is something else!! I had meetings at work in the morning and afternoon. In between I stopped by Mom's to see if she needed to go to the grocery store. She told me she didn't. I was home about an hour when she phoned to TELL me she was driving to the grocery store - She said she wanted to let me know so I wouldn't worry if I checked on her and she wasn't home. I asked if she'd rather I drive her and she said yes. Soooo, I made a stop back to her house, zoomed her to the grocery and made it back in time to leave for the meeting! I swear I've got to break her of this daily grocery store habit. I shop once a week for my groceries and I still end up going all the time!

On the positive side I didn't have any Milk Duds at the movies yesterday.

Last night for dinner I fixed chicken quesadillas.

I decided to skip breakfast. For lunch I had a chili cheese dog and a sundae. Thats all I've eaten so far today.

With out upcoming anniversary I wanted to book a reservation at WDW for either AKL or POFQ. Unfortunately, I couldn't get thru by phone. They said there was an increased volume of calls due to the free dining offer. I waited on the phone for 5 or 6 minutes then finally gave up. I've never had to wait before. If they're too busy to answer the phone I don't want to picture the check/in lines! In the meantime I ended up booking a nonDisney resort instead.

Wow, a tattoo? Where on his body is it and what is it of? I am trying to emphasize to my kids that tattoos are gross and they will not look cool when you are 80 years old... I guess he can do it now that he is 18, huh? YIKES!

What did you see at the movies? YAY for resisting the Milk Duds! :cheer2:

Why does your mom insist on going to the grocery store every day? That is a bad habit - especially for you and it's not even your habit! :rotfl:

I can truly sympathize with the upset feelings over the tattoo! But, somehow it seems a bit, just a bit, better that he's a boy. (I know, I sound sexist.)

My oldest daughter, 21 now, got a tattoo when she was 18 also!
At least hers is on the back of her neck, and her hair is longer now so its covered. But oh man! I guess the excuse is she's an art student, and the design is of a cross that her grandfather's unit used during WWII. But STILL!! :guilty: :sad2:

Do NOT eat a sundae if you're stressing over the tattoo!! Maybe he'll be famous someday and it will be no big deal. Look at Mr. Depp, he's inked all over, and well, he makes a fine pirate! pirate: LOL

Sorry, hope your weekend goes better tomorrow!

Tatoo - Yikes! Really, really hope DD's don't do that. Hopefully it is a small, demure tatoo in an inconspicious place?

Yay for no Milk Duds at the movies though  !

Sorry you couldn't get through to Disney, but you are right, if it is that hard to get through on the phone, the crowds/lines everywhere will be crazy.

This weekend went by quickly! When I got home from work yesterday dh informed me that Mom had phoned him to ask what day it was. We stopped by her house and she seemed very confused. I'd taken her for a memory evaluation earlier in the year. At that time they said her memory problems were normal for someone her age.

Yesterday I stressed out, bought a bag of Hershey's kisses. :confused3 While at work I ate half the bag, then threw the rest out (at work so I can't retrieve them.)!!!

#1 cereal w/ fresh peach slices
#2 rye ham sandwich w/lf cheese, apple juice
#3 4 chicken nachos & 2 LI iced teas

I did 20 minutes of cardio Saturday, 20 minutes on Sunday and 20 minutes today. I'm at 380/1000. I finally changed my June Challenge to the July Challenge today.

No more Hershey's chocolate kisses today! I'm going to definately get some exercise with my exercise ball and free weights in addition to the cardio I did. And I haven't eaten yet today. I'm still stuffed from yesterday.

The kitty woke me up at 4am and kept jumping on my head :headache: trying to get me to play. At 5am I fell back asleep. At 5:30am again she pounced - waking me and dh up. We opened the door so she could get out and dh went to check on her and our older cat. They were wrestling and big cat jumped on little kitty and bit the heck out of her. Little kitty growled. Dh yelled and our older cat quit the rough playing but we separated the cats from each other. Poor little furbaby.

For our anniversary I bought dh 4 Billy Joels cds. I love The Stranger cd. I gave dh two of the cds and we listened to them Friday night. Then dh got out all of his old albums. I'll tell ya the cds don't hold a candle to the album covers. I also bought Daniel Powter's and Thicke's cd for myself.

Amy, Kate & Anna; ds tatoo is a big black medieval looking cross on his back. You can't see it when he has a shirt on. Our kids must think alike, Kate! At least she got a tatoo that honored her grandfather. I agree with you - I must be sexist too. I guess you worry more about a daughter. At least she got a small, barely visible tatoo (for the sake of her Art!).

Amy, I'm hoping to stop Mom's constant grocery shopping. I'm going to take her twice this week and make sure the times are listed on her calendar. She doesn't plan what she's having for dinner until the morning of that day. She never used to be like that. When I grew up she was teaching school, taking college classes and much too busy to go grocery shopping all of the time. At this age, she enjoys it way too much!!!!!

Good for you throwing out the hershey's kisses :cheer2: . Sorry your mom was having a bad day. Is she better today, I hope?

Yesterday's food looks great otherwise and good job getting in daily exercise. :cool1:

Sounds like new kitty is getting more comfortable with everyone :rotfl2: . Hopefully, he'll let you sleep more tonight. Would he play with toys or does he really want someone more "interactive"?
