Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

30 minute walk today.
breakfast: 1/2 garden burger - no bread or bun
snack: 2 Ghiradelli squares
lunch: bowl of chili and 2 slices of bread & butter
dinner: 1 cheeseburger & McFlurry from McD's

Not much going on - just running around, finishing up shopping, visiting relatives.

Got my gag gift for mil. Every year I buy her a different one. This year is positively the worst gift I've gotten for her - the singing Christmas turkey! The runner up was the singing fish two years ago. The campier the better! I did get her other presents.

Amy, I swear healthy foods make me sick & bad foods agree with me. I remember being on a health kick & having a HUGE salad with all kinds of veggies. I ended up sicker than a dog with horrible stomach pains. Just give me cold pizza, chocolate cake & oj for breakfast & I'll be fine.

What is it with all of this heavy duty holiday cleaning? Our bookshelf in the office has been disorganized for about 2 years. It took me just about an hour to get in great shape. Don't know why I never did that before. Yesterday I threw out two big garbage bags of obsolete stuff.

We have a chicken with a Santa hat that bounces around and does the chicken dance. It drives the puppy absolutely crazy!

I hear ya on the foods. I swear I could live on mixed nuts, Doritos, ice cream and cheesecake and be perfectly content!

I was only cleaning because I am a busybody and could not bear to be sitting around the house all day doing nothing while DD was sick! I don't mind doing it, I just usually don't have time...

Hang in there, the holiday food fest will be over soon! :cool1:

Happy Holidays Jane!

Looks like you are really doing well with disciplining yourself on your exercise and your food choices - that is great. Keep up the good work! Hope you have a great holiday!

Keep on
Chris

20 minute walk

weigh in: 158lbs

breakfast: LC turkey w/cin apples & stuffing

lunch: bowl of chili - 2 slices of bread/butter

Yesterday when I was shopping at a big old bookstore downtown I got quite a scare. I decided to go up to the second floor. I hadn't been up there in years. Its kind of creepy & hardly anyone goes up there. Thats where they keep the used books, old songsheets & postcards. I was the only one up there, as I rounded a corner I could see a man sleeping on the floor behind a display. Kind of freaked me out & I got the heck out of there.

Amy, your chicken sounds hilarious! Our cat is just as thrilled as your dog is with our singing animals. The cat arched her back, hissed and ran backwards. Later on she came into my room & kept staring at it while she was laying on my bed. Our dog could care less.

Wow, your exercise minutes are adding up!!! :cheer2: You go, Amy! Through weddings & sickness & work & bad weather! Not to mention a trip to Las Vegas and NYE!

Chris, thanks for stopping by! A couple more weeks and we'll be back to January. Workouts and food plans should be much easier by then!

dinner last night: LC eggroll, grape juice & Smart One's peanut butter pie

snack: chips & salsa - there I go again!

15 minutes of cardio with light weights

breakfast: 1/2 banana and a handful of Christmas peanut M&M's

Hi Jane,

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I agree that once January gets here, diet and exercise routines will be easier to maintain!!

Exercise has been ok for me, I'm on vacation now until the first of the year. But the whole change with DH's job has really been crazy. We're working things out, but it has taken a lot of adjustment with the kids, but they are helping more around here. My 16 yr old DS has been doing lots of laundry! He hates doing dishes, so that was the alternative! He also doesn't mind vacuuming, so those things get done anyway.

My 13yr old will do minimal cooking, so the 2 days a week I don't get home until 6 she at least can make spaghetti or something else easy. We're also using the crock pot more.

Well, hope you have an enjoyable holiday, and I'll stop in again when I get the chance. :sunny:

Just stopping by to wish you a very merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful celebration! Give the kitty a cheek rub for me!

Hmm, a banana and M&Ms for breakfast? I think we are on the same plan - I just had spice drops and chocolate-covered nuts for lunch! :rotfl: Would you be interested in doing the BFL eating plan with me starting Jan 1? Maybe if I had a "BFL Buddy" I could actually succeed for more than 3 days... :rolleyes1 Let me know!

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! We had a wonderful time seeing family and friends. Our family does lots of gag gifts - so the laughing was nonstop!

This past weekend is a blur of food and drink. It doesn't matter that I decided not to bake - everyone else I know did. I've received cookies, pastries, cinamon sugar nuts, cakes etc. etc etc. If I tried to add up my calories I think my calculator would explode!

Lets just say I'm really happy that the NEW YEAR is right around the corner. Several people brought pix to the dinner yesterday from some of the get togethers we've had the past 6 weeks. I looked huge! I think because I can wear a size 12 I don't feel fat anymore but I look big. How can I feel so thin & look so big? The bad thing was - in one of the pics I was wearing one of my birthday gifts, a medium clingy shirt. At the time I was just happy that it fit. When I look at the pics my face looks so BIG. Forget clothes size - for some reason when I gain weight it hits my hips, abs, buns & face. The funny thing was last week a friend had taken a pic of me on my birthday & in that pic I thought that I looked pretty good.

Kate, you've had lots of changes in your life. I hope that things get organized, comfortable & workable for you. Everything has hit you at once. What is it with teenaged boys??!! My younger ds fussed about the dishes too. We finally had him do the yard work - just to get him out of the house!

Pearliq, I'll try to give my cat a cheek rub but I doubt she'll let me! She hates being held but it so darn cute everyone wants to pick her up! Merry Christmas to you too! I am looking forward to things getting back to normal.

Amy, that sounds like a great idea!! I need MOTIVATION! I definately want something specific to work on as I feel I'm floundering. I've heard great things about BFL.

40 minute workout - 30minutes of circuit training & 10min of yoga

I am glad to hear you had such a wonderful Christmas!

OK, we are going to do it! :cool1:  :cheer2: Starting on Monday, Jan 2 (so Sunday will be the splurge day). The BFL website is very comprehensive. I also have the book, but pretty much everything is on that site. Now, we need to think of something that will keep us on track. For starters, we need to plan ahead with the meals. Whenever we cook chicken, we need to cook extra for the next day or two. Second, we need to have some sort of system for NOT SNACKING. I think I might try to write down everything I am tempted by instead of eating it, and on Sunday, see if I am still craving it. Do you plan on using drinks or bars? I might eat a Balance bar once a day (at work, between breakfast and lunch). All the other times I will eat regular food. WE ARE GOING TO SUCCEED!!!  I am so excited about this, maybe this is what we both need to finally kick our butts into gear!

You don't want to know what I ate yesterday. It started out well with a ham & lowfat cheese eggwhite omelette, fruit salad & oj for breakfast
By the time lunch rolled around I'd consumed about 6 homemade choc chip cookies. For lunch I had ham w/lowfat cheese & an apple, oj. Dinner was a LC eggroll meal, 1 slice of lemon cake & grape juice

Weigh in: 159lbs!!!! Ouch!!!! :guilty:

Workout: 45 minutes of jog walking

Breakfast: eggwhite omelette w/onions & lowfat cheese, glass of oj

lunch: bunless bean burger w/mustard & 1 apple

Today while doing my walk/jog I ran into one of my neighbors. We started talking about exercising. She gained alot of weight when her husband died peaking at a size 16. She started doing tao bo & is now a size 6. She's in excellent shape. For someone about 30 years old she's been through alot.

Amy, sounds great. I've gotten the book from the library & started reading the diet part. If I can lose 24lbs over the 12 weeks I'll be very happy.

30 minutes of circuit training

breakfast: 1T nutrition shake 45
1T protein powder 20
4oz OJ 55
4oz water
1 tsp glutamine
total for breakfast 120

Lunch was the same as breakfast -

total calories so far 240
fat grams 0

Dinner: 1/2 grilled chicken breast, onions, green & yellow peppers, romaine lettuce, a pinch of parmesan, olive oil & basalmic vinegarette, 5 candied walnuts (a friend made them for us - we still have 1/2 bag left - I'm going to hand them over to dh and tell him to hide them from me), oj & 2 fudgesicles

total for day:
calories 850
fat grams 23

That olive oil adds up quickly!

Ds and his wife came over last night. I ended up pigging out on jalapeno crackers & lowfat cheese. It wouldn't be bad if I'd have a small portion but once I start....

Also had grape juice with it last night.

I've decided to put my start weight/current weight/goal weight on my signuture. I think having my goals face me each day might encourage me to stick with the program a bit better.

50 minutes of jog walking

I've decided to limit my jog walks to twice a week. I want to make sure to protect my heels and knees this time!

breakfast: same as yesterday calories: 120 fat grams 0

lunch LC turkey, stuffing & cinamon apples

snack: protein shake

dinner: my neighbor and I broke down and ordered a pizza - I think I'm going to forget about counting calories until next Monday.

What is it with me and evening snacking?! Last night, Dil was going to bring over some homemade apple crisp. She knew I was on a diet & didn't, and I end up eating the snack food I'd gotten for dh. I usually don't like crackers, chips, pretzels - but add jalapeno to those foods and I go nutz!

I have the same problem at night. If I have wheat thins in the house, my will power is over. I'm glad your Dil supported you and didn't bring over the crisp. My friend came over with leftovers from her party and thought me and my dd would want them (even though she knows I'm losing weight). She tried to send over cupcakes (4 dozen), regular soda, and chips. I politely told her no thanks and wouldn't let her bring them in. Ouch that hurt! I ran an extra mile on the treadmill for just thinking about it :teeth:

Keep up the good work!

Well, I hope you are getting all that snacking out of your system!!! Because on Monday the whip will be cracked and you won't be able to do that anymore... I haven't eaten yet and I am trying to decide whether or not to have a "practice" BFL day or just go cold turkey on Monday.

I like your addition to your sig. I'd do that, but right now my current weight is higher than my starting weight! :confused3 I gained 1 lb in Vegas which was within my planned range, so I guess I should be happy!

After reading some of the BFL success stories, I think that 24 lbs in 12 weeks is an obtainable goal. We just need to stick to it without cheating. WE WILL DO IT!

Hi Jane E. :wave2:

Thanks for posting in my journal and for reading my trip report. :goodvibes Isn't it great that you can get the cheese soup and pretzel bread to go at Le Cellier? It really is delicious! :goodvibes

I'm sending you lots of :wizard: to help you meet your 2006 goals. May it be a wonderful year for you and your family! :goodvibes

Take care! :sunny:

25 minute bike ride
breakfast: protein shake

On the BFL website, Nicole had a journal which broke down the 12 weeks of workouts:

18 upper body workouts
18 lower body workouts
36 cardio sessions

Thats encouraging to read!

Twotoohappy, 4 DOZEN CUPCAKES! Who would do that to somebody? Good thing you caught her at the door. I can't understand why someone would do that knowing you're on a diet.

Amy, how was Vegas? What did you do? I hope you had a great time. The one pound you gained she come off quickly once NYE is over!

Tracy, it sounds like you had a nice time at Disney. That cheese soup is the best! Dh hates cheese soup so if I order it I get the whole thing! We've only eaten once at LeCellier; he ordered some sort of fish dinner, I ordered an ice wine martini and cheese soup. That was good stuff!

Is it possible, just possible, that you're not seeing yourself realistically? Size 12 or size medium is not huge at all. Are you seeing the old you? I lost 60 pounds before my wedding 15 years ago (and gained it back but that's not the point :) ) and I remember looking at myself on our honeymoon and thinking I was h-u-g-e. Size 8 at the time. I look at the same picture now and wonder how I could have been so, I don't know - wrong, seeing things through a fun house mirror almost. So that's why I'm asking...is it possible?

Jennz, thanks for stopping by. Thats really not fair to feel heavy when you're a size 8!! I'm kind of the opposite, when I look in the mirror I feel average. In the Thanksgiving pics that were taken with group pictures I look fine. However, at my birthday - closeups were taken. In the closeups my face looks fat. Its not just me - my mom has mentioned it to me. When I got pregnant with older ds I weighed 100lbs. I gained 42lbs during my pregnancy. My mother flew out to see me in California two days after he was born. By the time she saw me I weighed about 125lbs. Recently, she told me she was shocked at the weight gain in my face at that time. For some reason, I don't gain that much in my arms and legs - just my midsection and face. I've got a small frame so every single pounds shows up. It never bothers me until I see those darn pics!

I need to set some goals. I know I won't have time to pop in this weekend so I'm going to list them now. These are from the BFL book. At least I have goals to set. I haven't had any objectives to rely on to get me to my weightloss. I've been kind of aimlessly dieting & working out. I'm only setting goals for 12 weeks. Thats it!!!

1. Lose 2 1/12 lbs a week.
2. Do three, 45 minute weight workouts a week.
3. Do three, 20 minute aerobic workouts a week.
4. Stick to my food program 6 days a week.
5. Have one day a week that I can go off of the food program but do so moderately.

If my weight is still 159lbs on Monday that means that in 12 weeks I should weigh in at 134lbs. I reordered my protein powder mix today so I'll have it for next week.

I also went to the grocery store and bought eggwhites, lowfat cottage cheese (yuck!) but dh likes it. I'll have to try it in the eggwhites sometime. I also bought tortillas, black beans, salmon, tuna, green peppers, & fruit.

For my aerobic workouts I'm going to walk jog twice a week and bike once a week. I felt great this week, and I didn't overstress my heels or knees.

For the NYE party everyone brings a dish. I'm bringing a Mexican hot 4 layer dip with two kinds of chips. I also bought some guacamole to take. I'd like to make it but the homemade kind looks awful by the time you get close to midnight. My friend always has tons of veggies for dipping so that should help. In spite of that, there are always too many temptations. There's always tons of homemade baked goods & lots of chocolate. I'm going to eat what I want but try to be moderate about it.

I keep forgetting to add in my exercise minutes! I went back to 12/26 and added up the minutes. I'm now at 190.

Hi Jane!

Wishing you a Happy New Year, and encouragement for keeping up with the healthy life for 2006! :sunny:
