And I'm a huge ice cream fan, especially chocolate covered ice cream! Oh my gosh! I'm so excited just thinking about it! I may have to go to DQ tonight and get a dipped cone just to hold myself over!

Haha! Cari, that's so funny! My wife and I both laughed at that!
You have a great sense of humour!

So, I realized something today... A Dilly Bar from Dairy Queen is the same a a Mickey Bar without ears!

Now I own a box of Dilly Bars! :thumbsup2

Cari ~ You are hillarious!! We can't wait to meet everyone. My girls love dogs so I want to be able to give them some guidelines for Denver. So when he is not being swung by the tail, they can......thanks.

SHHhhhhhhh Dont tell Brumbie that its not the same as a Mickey bar :rotfl2:

Suzanne - Ok I will tell you along with everyone the " Denver Rules " now that we are approaching the cruise ...

I am different from a lot of Guide or Service dog handlers in the respect that I allow petting - It is not that people ( well most of them anyways ) dont want others to pet their dogs it is just that some dogs can not focus on their job if distracted and sometimes it actually teaches dogs that they are going out and their job is to be pet - They start to seek people out for attention as opposed to do their job and focus on the task . Guide and Hearing dogs and Alert dogs must be on duty ALL of the time - even when a dog is resting or doing nothing - He or she is still on duty . A hearing dog must stay alert to sounds an alert dog but stay in tune with the handlers blood sugars or seziures and a guide dog must make sure their partner will be safe if something should happen and we need to get out of a place quickly . WITH ALL OF THIS SAID it is not that we TRY to be rude as handlers but it is just a LOT that our dogs have to do - our dogs get breaks and are DOGS just like any other dog when off duty though

Denver will have a chance to be out of harness at the meet and greet - I do this every cruise .... The kids absolutely LOVE it - some years back we had a little boy who was TERRIFIED of dogs .. he took to Denver like glue and to this day his mom and I stay in touch ....

Denvers rules are simple and I do realize folks that kids are kids ESPECIALLY those under 5 or 6 - They wont GET the rules totally

When Denver is WORKING or has his harness on He should not be pet without permission - Just ask I say Yes 99 percent of the time :-) So if you see us and the kids want to pet JUST ASK ! ( The meet he will be able to be pet with and w/o harness on )

If we are walking somewhere or going somewhere PLEASE dont call him .... you can say hi Cari or theres Denver - but PLEASE dont call him or kiss to him - it takes his focus to get me from A to B safely .... My first cruise I made the mistake to telling people his name and before I knew it ....I could not get across the room without someone calling to him LOL :confused3 YES common sense would tell you not to do this but you would not BELIEVE the people on Princess cruise LOL The staff was the WORST ! Disney has been wonderful and even if he is called to we are a seasoned enough team ( 8 years worth ) he just ignores it . I find more KIDS know about the dog and what and what not to do vs adults just because they are educating kids more now in school !

those are the two rules - simple but a challenge for ALL dog lovers .... We LOVE questions so PLEASE ask ... I will answer them openly and if you want to ask here please ASK ! NOTHING offends me NOTHING ! I have had people ask how much I CAN see people ask me how I can cook take a shower LOL you name it - I will answer them ALL ...Im good at kid questions too so dont be embarassed if they ask some direct questions ... YES kids do this LOL 7 years of teaching pre K ... I know kids well !
hope this was not too long winded

And again Please ask questions if you are curious DONT BE SHY !

getting closer to sailing WOO HOO off to the vet tomorrow for health cert !

Thanks Cari. I figured you had rules and I wanted to help my girls (3 and 5) understand. They usually like dogs. We have the rule that you must ask the dog's mom or dad before you pet - this is our rule for any dog, not just service dogs. You don't mention any rules about feeding him. I assume we should not carry milkbones in our pockets in the off chance we run into you. :confused3 I'm sure if we are within a hundred feet of you then you will hear little voices excitedly announcing "look mommy, doggy. I want doggy". I may not tell them his name as calling him will likely be the hardest rule for them to follow. They have seen service dogs and have not approached them so I know they notice the harness and can tell they are special dogs. I doubt it will be a problem. Thanks for covering the rules for all of us. Helps everyone to have basic boundaries.

suzanne
honestly Denver will just ignore them if they call him ... its the adults and older kids he will look at ... He has the natural ability to ignore people .
no food for Denver while he is working - FOOD is his ultimate weakness LOL so no milkbones in your pockets LOL HOWEVER !!!! Denver will gladly take them in his FE ! just no rawhide .... He LOVES Treats and goodies so whoever wants to drop stuff by our FE is welcome to :lovestruc

Ohhhh man I am counting the days down .... tick tock tick tock .... COME ON !

Is it normal to not be able to sleep at 2 am because you cant stop thinking about the cruise ? :lmao:
DONT THINK SO - Dang !

I figured Denver is well trained and would ignore them. I don't think they would really call him like they wanted him to come as they have never done that with any animal. We have a bunny and there is no point calling her as she doesn't respond. My girls are well behaved most of the time so I doubt there will be a problem. Seriously, adults try to call him...crazy.

I go in phases. I'll be fine for a couple of weeks and then I'll have a few nights where I can't sleep cause I'm too excited. I'm trying to stay occupied with all of the holiday stuff going on. I think I'm going to go super crazy starting next week though!
