Jan. 22- 29 , 2011 Western Caribean Cruise on the Disney Magic!!!

Kelli and Chrisse, thanks! I'm glad to know DD wasn't the only one scared of fireworks. She asked me 3-4 times before going to bed last night "No fireworks, Mommy?". And a few times already this morning. Great idea about the headphones! Colleen, I found a super cute set on Amazon. They have little bears on the ears and DD will actually wear them. I'll try to find the link.

Yeah of course the first flusher was so loud and active it sprouted up like a fountain. Even I jumped! Poor kid! At least I knew she really didn't need to go or else she would have gone then! :)

Kelli, no offense taken! We avoid Jersey week as well!!! :). And I swear we aren't like Jersey Shore at all!

Colleen, I totally understand being away for 2 weeks and how your parents help would be helpful. Honestly the breaks we had were awesome! I just guess I learned that we needed more of a break from them rather than spending every minute with them. I also think some parents are better traveling partners than others. :). And you can always cone to my cabin to vent if needed. :)

Philharmagic is a 3D show in Magic Kingdom. Really fun! However now realize it's a bit loud and it was too much for DD. I would check dark rides and loud things with your DS and if he is OK with it, go for it. I think DD is just in a very "scared" stage right now.

Only 2 more months! I am so excited! It is so D@MN cold here I could use some nice weather! -22°C(-7.6°F) with a windchill factor of -31(-23.8°F)!!! Common January!

I hope the headphones idea works for you guys! I know how tough it can be when your kids are sensitive to loud noises. Would be a shame for them to miss something this amazing! Just remember to get over the ear headphones and not the ear buds and have some music they like. My son would listen to Mini Pops...lol.

Congratulations!!! :cool1:
I definitely feel your pain! ;) Glad you finally got a break...
You are NOT the only one... I have not done the first thing for Christmas! :scared1:

CHRISTMAS????? I have not even thought about THANKSGIVING!!:rotfl2:

I figured I might as well just jump in! I'm thinking this cruise is going to be a lot more fun than I had originally expected. :woohoo: We're definitely considering a cabana rental, especially if we find another family who'd like to share.

To be honest i have not even lkooked at what it offers again yet...
I worked 86.5 hours last week and ihave barley had time to breath.
I will look while i am on today and see what we think.

WELCOME TO THE POWER FAMILY!!!!!!!!

About the cabanas ......... we are definitly leaning towards a yes for that.

I just went and did a search it came up pretty easily and had several pictures.

Now the only problem is ....... you have to be concierge to prebook this.

And we are not are you guys,,,,,,,
We would havebeen if it wasnt for that 10,000 charge.

But we will keep checkingon the upgrade as it gets closer.

THOUGHTS,,,,,,,,,,

To book we have to go to the desk when we board i think.
(which isnt a problem we have done it before to get other things)

We are not concierge either. I called my TA and he said we should have no problem getting a reservation once we board the ship. I have to get on early anyway, to see if I can talk my way into a brunch reservation at Palo. Too bad about the $10,000 upgrade!! My money tree never blossoms in winter...

I've been researching shore excursions in Cozumel and just can't seem to come up with anything that is appealing to DH and me, yet suitable for a pre-schooler. I think I understand correctly that one may leave children in the kids' club during shore excursions. Is this true? Has anyone done it? Something about leaving her behind on a floating vessel while I venture off onto foreign soil makes me uncomfortable. Surely the pagers don't work onshore.

One option I'm considering is for all three of us to go ashore for the San Gervasio ruins/explore Mexican culture park excursion. It's three hours and seems to be somewhat kid-friendly, plus it would give the DD a (mild, and somewhat Americanized) introduction to her Mexican heritage. Then I'll pack my DH and DD back off to the ship and head into town to do some shopping. Or, I will just leave them on the ship and go it alone. I speak fluent Spanish and can make my way around without any trouble, but there's safety in numbers. Anyone else interested in a little ladies' afternoon shopping excursion? Or is anyone else who is already planning to roam interested in a little free translation service? I'll help you get a good deal on some silver! ;)

Hi Everyone!!

Is there another Colleen here? I hardly ever hear my name but it's fun when I do!

Just a thought - did you check out Chankanaab? We booked the manatee excursion directly with them (also have sea lions that you can book without going thru Disney) and while DH and DS do that, I'll hang out with the younger two at the beach, playground, or swim up bar pool, lol. Everyone says it is clean, safe, relaxing and you can spend the whole day there if you want. We also wanted our oldest (who we adopted and was born in Guatemala - Mayan descent) to get some exposure to the culture, but were reluctant to split up so he and one of us could do Tulum. (I heard that the San Gervasio ruins were really small, just as an FYI.) Anyway, we decided that for now, the replica ruins at Chankanaab will be a nice substitute til they are older and we can see the real thing..

btw - has anyone purchased eco-safe sunscreen or even that stuff for sealice? I know we need the special sunscreen for Chankanaab because it is an ecological park, but do we even need to worry about the sea lice in January?

We are getting excited for the cruise!!! Although I have been on 17+ cruises this will be our first on DCL. The FE thing is a new concept to us, but from little I could make sense of in several threads it sounds like a lot of fun and something our kids would love to do if we figure out how it works and how to get involved in it.

We have 7 in our group for this trip: Grandma, Grandpa, Myself, wife, and three kids, 11yr old Girl, 8yr old Boy, and 5yr old Girl. All have been on several cruises with cousins but this will be our first with a small group. They have a great time getting to know other kids on the ship and will be fun to see how different this trip will be without a group of cousins along. Because of the possible snow delays in January here in Utah we are flying in day prior, staying the night in Cocoa Beach, and then staying two days after to go to Universal Studios.

I don't think I have ever been so excited for a cruise as I am for this one. All the times I have been to the Caribbean, this will be my first to GC, KWest, and Castaway Cay. I am a Disney fan and really looking forward to the Disney level of service and show.

Thanks for the fun threads all have been posting. I look forward to having more time to read the tips, ideas, and excursions others have done or are planning to do.

That sounds fun! We are planning on going to Nachi Cocum, but there is always time for shopping, and there is a purse Alex really wants from there... Having someone to translate would be awesome!

We are going to Nachi Cocom. It seems like a great place, all inclusive including alcohol, heated pool in case it is a cool day, hot tub, swim up bar and a limit of 100 people! I would love to see lots of our group taking up the 100 spots! Would sure make it fun IMO. OH! And if you end up at Nachi Cocom you can see the lady that is scared of Heights and Water... PARASAILING!

EEEEwwwwww!

LOL! Ya, Ewww. One of my good friends ex BFs was posting on my Facebook last night that it was 80°F there yesterday! They live in Tampa! I told them they might need to make room in case I decide not to come back and move in with them...lol. I am SO excited! I really can`t wait!

Ok, so Nachi Cocom... Who all is goign there? Or will it just be my family? I heard SO much talk about it early on the boards.

$10000???!!!! Seriously! I've heard you can upgrade at the pier for around $1500 if available. I am quite shocked though as we upgraded to a Grand Suite on RCI in 2006 for $700. Keep checking that there are suites available and I'm sure you can upgrade at the pier much cheaper!
