Jan. 22- 29 , 2011 Western Caribean Cruise on the Disney Magic!!!

Off cruise topic, Anyone ever done the parks in August? I am considering it with the new military deal and we'll already be down there at the beach. I am leary because we did a day trip to sea world this year in august when we were down there and it was hot as hades and we all just wanted to jump in the tanks with the animals. We ended up leaving earlier than we had planned. But am trying to convince myself if we stay at the Poly and have the monorail and the pool close by for midday it may not be so bad. LOL Convincing DH may be a whole different story.. all we kept saying at Sea World that day.. is how we would NEVER plan an august Disney trip . . . oops! ;)

We went in August of '09 after our cruise, I guess it was around the 20th of the month. It was hot, but heat and humidity don't bother us so much being from Baltimore (that's a typical summer here). We only went to Epcot that trip and hung out at SSR, did mini-golf and DTD the rest of the time we were there. I didn't think the crowds were too bad at that time - wait times for rides were manageable. I'm guessing some school districts had started back already which made the crowds a bit less. Earlier in the month would definitely be more crowded. Having the pool at the hotel would be a definite plus - Hit AM EMH at MK or Epcot and head back to the hotel after lunch for a swim break. Hope this helps!

is anyone else concerned about all this Magic talk on the board lately?Anyway, just babbling... I think I will stop reading the board. LOL

I figure maybe it will keep people from booking giving us all a better chance at a free upgrade to concierge! :lmao:

I really do not want to pay $7. a bottle of water...lol, I drink ALOT of bottled water. I think I would blow my onboard budget the first night....lol.

I even picked up some US money the other day and MAN! I think your US Gov't forgot their crayons!!! Where is the color?! (JUST KIDDING!! Please don't be offended!) I get teased so often from some of my American friends that our money looks like Monopoly money but all I can say now is... Americans must have boring wallets. :lmao:

Chrisse

Water: the water on board is good. I just brought a couple of bottles on board with me and filled them up everyday.

Money: Girl, please! We only have the most boring money on the planet!!! Hence the Disney Visa & Hello Kitty debit card in my wallet! Gotta get some color in somewhere!!

Very true, you may start waiting a LONG time for food. ;)
Guess I better remember a stash of singles too!!

:rotfl:

LOL, yes, but if I start giving out 100's by accident I bet we'll get some pretty magical service. :rotfl2:

No offense, but you are insane... :scared1:
Do you know how flippin' hot it gets there!! On the other hand, if you go after mid-August most schools have started so it should be pretty uncrowded...

Ok...ANOTHER change of plans... looks like DH likes the open bar at Nachi Cocom so we should be goign there if the spots are still open when the lady I have been emailing gets my last email....

Question: How many people on this thread are going to Nachi Cocom? I know Kelli is so that's 4, if we get the spots it is another 4... just wondering how many of our little meet thread will take up the 100 spots.

in regards to the ones for tipping you should also be able to add the tip to your room charges. thats how it is with other cruise lines anyway. if you dont want to carry cash.

Chrisse are Mars bars glueten free? i thought smarties would be but they dont appear to be.

Mars bars are NOT gluten free and Canadian Smarties are NOT gluten free. If your looking for a safe Canadian chocolate bar, Aeros are the safest. PLAIN Chocolate M&Ms in Canada are also very safe.

wow i thought i was starting to recognize the hazards lol but clearly i missed something in the ingredients of mars bars.

are you still looking at booking on the inaugural cruise on the Fantasy? DH saw Lynn's halloween pics and started talking about going to disney for halloween one year so now i am considering that as my booking i make on board. decisions decisions

Kelli, did u say you wrote a trip report from your last cruise? If so what did u call it as I have been looking but can't seem to find it.

<edit> guess i am blind i found it now

If you read the ingredients on Mars the risk is...

"Malted Barley"

Anything Wheat, rye or barley(Malt) is a no no.

I still haven't decided on the cruise but that cruise was for April. I would LOVE a halloween cruise and may have to settle for one in 2012 because the maiden voyage of the fantasy might be out of my price range, you never know though, alot can happen between now and January.

We have also done a HAlloween cruise.......
Which is really fun tooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would definitely love to do a halloween cruise but just cant figure out when since the air from here costs as much as the cruise and we were planning to go on the Oasis or Allure in 2012 so think Disney would need to wait until 2013. Who knows maybe we can make two cruises/trips to FL work in 2012.

Never thought i would look at booking a cruise during hurricane season but theres a first for everything

Flight costs to Orlando from here is INSANE! It actually works out cheaper having DCL book the flight the only problem with that is I have no idea what my flights will be till 45 days prior.

our flights on delta were decent at about $550 each with taxes but by the time you take 3 of us the cruise works out about the same. we looked at driving down to North Dakota to fly with Allegiant air but unfortunately the dates didnt work to meet with the cruise.

if your tipping with hundred dollar bills im gonna start intersepting the CM and deliver whatever you need myself :rotfl2:

Friends of ours were at wdw this past August and said it was sooo hot mind you i guess if you are used to that heat it wouldn't be so bad.

I feel very fortunate that our flights are reasonable from Buffalo to Orlando. We got ours for about $200 each and they are direct flights too.

I as well have always wanted to do a Halloweeen cruise...either that or Easter. This is what we may be looking at to book for 2012 while we are on board.

Cheap flights out of Edmonton are roughly $765. each for us and with 4 of us, that is $3060. That was the cheapest flight which came at odd hours and had 2 connections..... It would have gotten to Orlando at 8 am and we would have to pack our carryons till check in at 4 pm.... does not sound fun to me. On top of it, DCL didn't charge for hotel if you book flight with DCL so I end up saving a few hundred dollars even before you add that I would have to pay a hotel. It just made more sense to me to let DCL handle it.

thats definetly the way to go then for you. your children are older so if you end up with a bit of a layover its not so bad. entertaining a 2 year old in an airport for 3 hours or more is not fun so thats why i am so nuts about my flights. i am trying to relax about it though since unless i am buying my own plane before January there isnt a whole lot i can do about it.

Chrisse i am going to pm you about more gluten free candy questions.

:rotfl2: That was exactly my self-conversation. LOL I guess I am trying to figure out which is better, no disney or disney in August (21st - 25th)... it really is a hard toss up. We would only go because we would be 2 hours away at the beach and would extend a 7 day vaca into an 11-day.... because I definitely can't convince DH to drive to florida 3 times in one calendar year and go another time. LOL Though I would LOVE to do MNSSHP, so I wish October was an option. :(

I would love both a Halloween or Easter cruise!!! Our next probably wouldn't be 'til 2013... we are trying to get to Disneyland in 2012.
Unless we just totally fall in love with cruising on this trip and can squeeze out a 3-day or something before then.

Thinking of having my travel agent check this weekend for main dining, since it's about that time for final payment and there may be some cancellations... but I am actually pretty torn on whether or not we want to switch. I like the option at the second seating where they come and get the kids... but it really is a late night every night... wish we could alternate every night. :)

I was torn about this on our last cruise too. The kids were 6 & 8 at the time, and I think it worked out well. If they were hungry we could get them a snack late afternoon or before we headed to the evening show, so the late dinner didn't seem to bother them too much. I loved the dine and play option since it gave us some adult time after they headed to the clubs. It didn't bother me if they had to sleep in a little bit the next day since we weren't on such a strict schedule. Being able to see the show early is good too - before the kids get too tired to be fussy. So, we willingly signed up for late dining this time around.
