Jan 2010 Code Watch

This is the first year that I have been looking for any kind of discounts for DW. Does anyone know if there have been discounts in Jan. or Feb. in the past and if so what kinds? TIA

Last year they had the 4/3 deal-pay for 4 days get 3 free-resort & park tickets. You'd have to pay the entire dining plan if you choose that. If you belong to AAA they have deals-not sure about Jan/Feb-Disney Visa cardholders also get advanced deals too. Call a travel agent- they too can give people great deals...we are just waiting impatiently to see if they have any deals!!!!!

Unlike the fall, when free dining has been offered consistantly for years, January deals have varied quite a bit from year to year.

Last year was the 4/3 offer on hotel & tickets, which is a huge savings (about 42% if you're staying 7 nights). The year before was the rather lame free ticket upgrade deal, which really didn't offer much savings at all because we probably wouldn't have gotten hoppers or water park tickets without it. There was a slight room discount included on that package, I think we saved 15 or 20%.

So really, depending on bookings and Disney's view of the direction the economy is headed, it could be anything. The podcast mentioned a rumor that the 4/3 will be back, but more complicated for next year and some people have reported seeing the 4/3 banner come up, apparently accidentally and at random, on the Disney site, so that's the direction the buzz is pointing so far.

Hey while we are waiting for our magical Jan code, I was just curious, I have never been to the world in Jan. Always have been in spring, summer and fall. Any tips on weather, crowds etc?. Also we usually stay in CBR. But thinking about AK. Never been there. Any thoughts?:confused3

The weather is all over the place, but being northerners, we found it quite pleasant. Warm days, in the 70s for most of the trip, but cool if it is cloudy and once the sun goes down. My kids swam just about every night, but some nights the lifeguards were in gloves & hats. :rotfl:

As far as crowds go, we really didn't run into any. We were there over MLK weekend and the holiday weekend was more crowded than the weekdays leading up to it and the following week, but still very manageable. It was the difference between not bothering with FastPass because the lines were so short Wed-Fri before the holiday and Tues-Sun after, and using FP to avoid 40-50 minute waits for Soarin', Rock N Roller Coaster, and Space Mountain Sat-Mon of the holiday weekend. And we're not rope drop early risers; if we were, we probably wouldn't even have needed FPs on the weekend!

I tried to find some crowd pics, but I don't really have many good ones. Lots of pics with no people, but few that give much of an idea of crowd levels. This is rope drop on Saturday of MLK weekend and the biggest crowds we saw in 12 days:

There have not been any deals released for January yet, but we're all watching and waiting! popcorn:: Last year, Disney did not release the 4/3 deal until November, so we probably still have a while to wait.

We have been there several times in Jan. Somtimes warm and cold in the same trip. I love January because of low crowds and instead of feeling bummed out after the holidays are over, I have Disney to look forward to. The AKL is one of my favorites. If we get a good deal, that is one of the resorts at the top of my list. When are you going in Jan?

We are planning on going the week of the third. But without a good discount, we may have to reduce our number of days. So I am SO wanting some good news!!!:cheer2:

We are planning our FIRST trip to Disney for sometime in January!! My husband and I are taking our three children and NONE of us have been before.

Keeping our fingers crossed for good deals . . .

count me in on the waiting game, My Daughter has a gymnastics meet weekend of Jan 22 so hoping for a good code. popcorn::

Airfare is booked for a trip from Jan 10 - Jan 17! Waiting for a deal before booking a room. Trying to decide between WL and POR. Also trying to decide whether to book the room now or wait to see what offer may be available. This trip is just for DH and me! No kids or grandkids this trip! We can do exactly what WE want to do for a change.

Just saw that you are from Berlin, New Jersey - I am from Berlin, Germany! :wave2:

Sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned! :goodvibes

My ultimate deal for this trip would be a 6/5 deal. I want to go for 11 nights. Hey, I can dream right? We are going in the summer anyway, not January, but I am watching this thread for the first 2010 codes to start being released! :goodvibes

We were there in January last year. WHile the crowds were definitely lower (aside from MLK weekend), we FROZE! We did not pack for the temps that week. Almost every morning when we left our room at Pop to go to the buses, it was 32 degrees. Many days did not reach 70. The kids swam a couple of times. The heated pools all looked like hot tubs with the steam rising from them. Having said that, we'd go that time of year again because of the low crowds...we'd just take heavier jackets!

:welcome: My DH and I took our 2 girls last January or our first family trip to Disney! :) It is a great time to go! We had a great time! Don't be shy to join us on the January planning thread on the countdown board! :goodvibes

Does anyone know what the crowds will be like January 3-9, being that it is right after the New Year? Has anyone visited at this time and have any input?

I think the New Years crowds will have died down by the 3rd. Marathon weekend starts on the 7th so there will probably be a lot of people arriving on or around then. We were there for marathon weekend last year and thought the crowds in the parks were great. It really didn't affect our plans at all.

We were there 1 day in 2008--Jan 5th I think. The best day we ever had--it was dead, dead, dead! Loved it! We were at MK.

Y'all are in for such a treat! January is a wonderful time to go.

We have been three times in January. Each time right around/after the MLK holiday. Crowds were heavier but very manageable Saturday-Monday of the holiday weekend. After that it is essentially like having the park to yourself, with just a few other guests sprinkled in for scenery. We've enjoyed the weather each time too. Mornings are chilly (fleeces feel nice); afternoons are pleasantly warm and almost always rain-free; evenings are chilly again (time to put the fleece back on).

Hey everyone! Joining in a little late, but am PATIENTLY awaiting some codes for January also!:surfweb: I'm looking at Wed Jan 6 - Thurs Jan 14 at CSR!!!:cool1:

Have only been to WDW in June and was way too hot! So i'm looking forward to the weather!!

Alright codes, show your face!!
