I forgot to mention that we received a letter telling us to bring football jerseys to wear at an ESPN party on New Year's Day to watch football on large screen tv on deck at the ESPN Zone, but we were in St. Thomas and didn't attend.
We decided to forgo breakfast since we had Palo ressies for the champagne brunch at 11:00am. We did run up to topsiders to get DS something to go and DH some coffee at beverage station.
DS and DH are hockey fanatics and play all year round and DH coaches several teams also, so I was looking forward to being far from hockey and any ice rinks, but what is this???? Lo, DCL is holding an NHL skills competition on deck 10- shooting pucks, etc. and DS and DH have to attend for an hour before we go to Palo. Figures.
After DH worked up an appetite, DS headed to the internet cafe and DH and I went to Palo. We have done this previously and loved it and it was just as nice this time. We enjoyed champagne, orange juice, pasta, and the best mushroom pizza in the world! We also had alaskan king crab legs (somewhat frozen)and stone crab. They had a fabulous dessert of mocha coffee mousse in a dark chocolate cup; we each had one and took one to go along with a pepperoni pizza for DS. This is the thinnest crust pizza and it melts in your mouth. They had many other entrees, but we really took it easy.
Later in the afternoon, we went to the final jackpot bingo where the final prize was over $5,000. It was held in the walt disney theatre and a 19 yr. old girl from Mexico won the jackpot.
We got dressed later for the show Disney Dreams, but DH decided to stay in the stateroom and read (since he'd seen the show 3 times previously and it isn't his favorite) while DS and I went to see it. Afterward, we went to the cabaret show in rockin bar d with Gary Delena, a comedian that plays guitar and makes up funny songs. He was really good--- he plays up his italian heritage and brooklyn, new york roots.
It was semi formal night and we were in Parrots Cay. I know there is a lot of discussion about dining attire, but this time, I never really noticed what people were wearing and I actually didn't notice many tuxes on formal or semi formal night. Our dining companions didnt really have any formal, semi formal clothes with them and usually wore sweatshirts and nobody seemed to notice. We had lobster that night and DH and Jamming John had surf and Turf by combining with a sirloin steak. Our server came back and asked if we didn't want another lobster as we finished, but really we had no room. Again, the quality of the food seemed much better than our last cruises on DCL, not that it wasn't good before, but seemed especially good this time. Jamming John and party invited us to go to rocking bar d for the adult show with Gary Delena later, so we agreed.
The evening show was really funny and different from the family show at 7:45. On the way back to the cabin, i stopped at computer to check weather at castaway cay and it was still saying thunderstorms. So we retired for the evening hoping that maybe it would be just a passing storm. More tomorrow on our day at Castaway Cay and our last cruise day. Barb
