Staying at Ft. Wilderness cabins for the first time.

January 6

I woke up the next morning, made my coffee, ate my oatmeal and read some more of the Disney Tips. We were heading to AK this morning so I read the tips pertaining to AK.

I went to wake everyone up and it was only the 2 little ones who were moving. Dd17 was getting up to get ready, dn13 was saying she wasn’t feeling good and she didn’t want to get up, dh wasn’t moving at all. I started getting a little mad. I know this was EVERYONE’s vacation, but we could have stayed home and slept. We were at WDW!!!! Let’s get moving!!! I announced I was leaving in 20 minutes and whoever was ready was coming with, I wasn’t waiting for anyone. 20 minutes passed by and dh was just getting up, dd17 was almost ready, dn13 was moving slooooowly and not ready yet, dd6 and ds4 were on the porch playing waiting for me.

By now I was MAD. I said I was leaving and if I saw them up at AK, fine…otherwise I’d meet them back at the cabin around 1-2pm. And then dd6, ds4, and I left. I guess I should clarify and that I know from experience that “I’ll be ready in 2 minutes” can turn into 2 hours. I was at WDW and I didn’t want to waste the day away waiting around. I’m a person who is always moving and rearing to go. Dh is the opposite. He likes to take his time and he moves slowly. I’m impatient (very impatient), and dh is the most patient person I’ve ever met. Dd17 is a typical teenager who likes to spend 1 hour (or more) on her hair and makeup. Dn13 doesn’t like to move before 2pm. So, I thought to myself I could either get madder and madder at everyone, or I could just get to AK and have fun. Afterall, it is the main reason why I wanted to stay onsite: so we could go off on our own so I wouldn’t get mad at everyone for wanting to sleep late.

So, we made it to AK. We had the BEST bus driver. I wish I remember his name. He was telling us trivia on the bus and answering all of our questions about WDW. It made the ride so much fun. Some of the WDW bus drivers are the grouchiest people I’ve ever met. They act like being there is the worst thing in the world. Then you have an awesome bus driver that makes Disney a great place to be.

We got to AK around 9:30-10am. We first went to the Pocohantus show. She is one of my favorite characters! I really enjoyed the show. I highly recommend this show to anyone! Then we went to see Lion King. It was our first time seeing it and ds4 and I really enjoyed it. Dd6 however, hated it. She was tears wanting to get out of there. You see, we got there right before it started and had seats up high in the bleachers. The family that sat in front of us were just so RUDE! The daughter (who was probably around 14) spent the whole show taking pictures. OK, that’s not bad, except she would hold her camera up high over her head (right in dd6’s view) and click. The girl then would then check her view finder and then hold the camera over her head, and click again. She did this THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SHOW! And the worst part was that her mom and dad were doing the same thing. It’s one thing to snap some pics of the show, and it’s another thing to totally distrupt the show. I tried moving dd6 to another spot (probably irritating the people behind us), and we just couldn’t find a good spot for her to see. I was holding ds4 up on my lap so he could see. I tried holding both kids up, but I just couldn’t do it. Dd6 just got so frustrated she just slumped in her seat and started quietly crying. I couldn’t console her and she just didn’t want anything to do with the Lion King show. I was trying to enjoy the show, but I was secretly wishing it would just end so we could get out of there.

The show was over and we left and I wanted to head over to Tarzan Rocks but dd6 wanted nothing to do with anymore shows. So we headed over to the Safari to get a fastpass. The whole time we were looking for the rest of the family. By now I felt like the worst mother/wife in the world. I should be at AK with my WHOLE family, but I didn’t want to wait for them. I was just hoping I would run into them. The night before we ran into the teens 3 times at MK, so there was hope.

We rode the safari, walked some of the trails (which I kinda liked but it wasn’t anything special to me), and then headed to the Tusker House for lunch. We sat outside the restaurant for about ½ hour just watching the people hoping to see the rest of the family. I specifically picked this restaurant for dd17 because she is a vegetarian. I read off the boards this was a good place to get a good (quick) veggie meal. We never saw them so we ate lunch there. It had great food!!!

We left there and headed to Dinoland and rode the triceratops spin and the kids played in the dinosaur digging place (whatever it’s called). We did some more, but I just can’t remember the specifics right now. (sorry)

By now it was late and we should have left already to get back to the cabin. The kids wanted ice cream and we noticed the ropes up for the parade. Wow, it was that late already??? We spent well over an hour in a store. I couldn’t find the kids Disney dollars!!! Oh well, it will turn up (which it did 2 days after I got home…it was in my purse…why didn’t I look harder??!) I ended up just putting it on my resort charge. We got ice cream and stayed for the parade. The AK parade is my favorite parade at WDW. I just love it!

We headed back to the cabin and the family was waiting there. They were at AK and they were looking for us the whole time. They came back early because I told them I was coming back between 1-2pm. OOPS!!! Now I felt bad.

DH said he felt really sick and he headed to bed for the rest of the day/night. Dh never made it to Publix so I made another improvised dinner at the cabin. Dd17 and dn13 said they were heading to Epcot for the EMH night. So, it was dd6, ds4, and me all alone again. That’s ok, those kids are just awesome! We decided to head over for the Chip & Dale singing and watch the movie, it was Tarzan that night. What a fun night!!! The only thing I would have done differently: brought blankets for the kids to sit on the ground, and brought hotdogs to cook out on the fire. There was a little boy running around wildly during the movie and for some reason this really bothered dd6. She asked to leave about ½ way through the movie. Ds4 didn’t mind. We all left and we went to look for the wagon ride. We couldn’t find the place they told us to go so we went walking around, played at the park, shopped in the store, and then headed back. As we were heading back to the bus stop, we found the horse and wagon. They were just getting ready to head out. What luck! We got on the wagon and we set out for a WONDERFUL wagon ride with a wagon full of wonderful people.

Ds4 LOVES to talk to people. He is one of those children who will go up to a stranger and start a conversation with them. Well, he was sitting next to an older woman and he just talked her ear off. I had to finally tell him to stop talking to her because he was just going on and on. Telling her all about his toys, his vacation, his dog, just anything that popped into his head…lol. It was kinda cute the first 10 minutes…then he started getting annoying. But of course, this woman had too much class to just say, “shut up kid!”…lol. It was such a beautifully warm night. It was so quiet on the ride (except for ds4’s talking). Dd6 ended up falling asleep on the ride. Then ds4 got quiet…uh oh…how am I going to carry 2 sleeping children back to the cabin???? I met a family on the wagon who were from Indiana. They were telling me about the huge snowstorm we had back in Chicago. HUH???? I didn’t get to read a paper, and I wasn’t watching tv. We had snow back home? Oh well…it’s Chicago, no biggie. Well, she said it was 12 inches. OK, that’s no big deal. Then she and her husband were talking about the drive back. Kentucky closes it’s Interstates easily. Driving through Tennesse might be bad. Going through Southern Indiana may be dangerous. Oh great!!! Now I started worrying. I woke the kids up and I carried dd6 on my back on the walk back to the cabin after we got off the bus. When we got back to the cabin, I told dh about the snowstorm back home. We watched the weather channel but nothing seemed too bad. They talked about downtown Chicago being hit bad, but that’s really nothing. It takes an awful lot to close down a city like Chicago.

The teens got back around 11:30pm from Epcot’s EMH night. Now both of the girls were sick. Nothing more than a nasty cold, but you know how irritating those are!

Next report: MGM

Yep, Kentucky closes the highways pretty quick if it gets bad. I thought the big girls were going to puke too! I know, I'm paranoid now.
