HELLO! I just got back last night from our week at Animal Kingdom Lodge and I had to say "THANK YOU!" I switched my ressies from POFQ to AKL based largely on the wonderful reviews and pictures in this thread, and I am so, so happy we did. What a week, what a trip. I can't wait to share pictures with you all.

Welcome back!! It sounds like you had a great trip. I can't wait to see some pictures from AKL

SplashMom
You have gotten some great advice so I thought I would just add on to the others.
-Stay hydrated at all times by drinking lots of water
-Use sunscreen liberally and make sure to re-apply. In June 01 I was at TL for the afternoon and I only put sunscreen on once (spf 45) and by that night I had 1st degree burns on my shoulders. It was terrible...thank goodness i was leaving 2 days later, but I couldn't even carry my backpack it hurt so much.
-Aloe Vera just in case you get some sun
-Mini Fans (find these at dollar stores) or the Misty spray fans they sell at WDW are great if you need a qucik cool down
-Afternoon swims/rests are always helpful
-Carry a washcloth with you at the parks if you are using a backpack or larger bag and put some cool water on it than use it to help cool yourself down (ie on face or neck).

.... :thumbsup2 absolutely! Now that we've have been blessed with such an honored tag, we must vow the upkeep of this thread and always promise to help those in need of information about our beloved AKL.....

I hearby solemly swear to honor my AKL Jambo!Wildbunch tag :thumbsup2

Has anyone ever taken their laptop to AKL? How is the connection? I have a wireless connection at home, do they have this here?

I like downloading my pictures at night & checking my mail. I could also do live updates on this thread :Pinkbounc

ROAR!!! I want to join the Wild Bunch...I've had the ticker for a while and need to join ZDA! Maybe the Tag Fairy will grant my wish. I even convinced my family to stay at AKL after falling love with it last year; doesn't staying there 2 yrs in a row help? :simba: pooh: :tigger:

(Maybe some wild jumping animals will help the TF see me)

....just look for the link I provided (the one in the post where I tell all the 'newly-tagged' that they can thank the Purple Tag Fairy in person...) and write a post saying that kimmar inadvertently excluded you from the "WildBunch" list....perhaps you can get a tag, too...... :confused3 (however, I can't guarantee that it will happen.... :sad2: )

Your photos of the Bats was exceptional. I haven't ever seen them with their wings open. :thumbsup2 I had to call my DH over to see your shot of the eagle (his favorite), plus your furry family album. Yes, I knew I really liked you, a fellow dog lover :) We have three ourselves and have raised Shelties in the past.

Your album was a Sunday afternoon vacation to WDW for me thank you again.

Angel

Angel,
The picture of the bats, they're not REAL bats!! They are hanging from the ceiling where the real bats are!! My husband's favorite birds are the eagles too, that's why I had to take a picture of them. And thank you so much for the compliments about my photos.

of this thread. Just talked to DH and have been told to call AAA to see about upgrading to Savannah or Concerge for our trip in October. We will be there from the 14-22.

We did in Jan., DH downloaded our pics each night.......... however, I have NO idea if he got on the internet......... I don't think he did, but I'll ask him tonight and let you know!!!

Not sure if this question has been asked recently, but does anyone know what days the Sunrise Safari is operated on these days? I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade to a Concierge room, and timing of the Safari is part of the equation. Thanks!

I believe it's somewhere in here - Sundays and Thursdays I think.

Congrats everyone on getting tagged! :Pinkbounc :cool1: :cheer2: :yay:
Perhaps when I get back from AKL visit #1 I will have partaken in the sacred ritual of zebra dome eating and maybe can earn my place in the wild bunch with ya! Until then I will stick to this site like glue and soak up all of the awesome info (I know there are a lot of random similes there, but I just can't help myself  ) ! :Pinkbounc

Speaking of info...can anyone tell me how long the culinary tour lasts? I know it starts at 4 but when does it end?
:scratchin
Also, has anyone upgraded to concierge upon check-in? Would you say it is worth it at that point to do so?

:thumbsup2

Quite the active little thread here. :teeth: Nice to see someone else from Virginia, too. I'm from the Richmond area.

Anyway, the other poster is correct. Sunrise Safari is Sunday and Thursdays. It begins at 7 a.m. I know it's bright and early but I hear it's worth it. I have it booked for our post cruise trip unless DH really digs his heels in about getting up so early since we have a late afternoon flight home. He's going to pooped after this vacation. :rotfl2:

Princess Mindy - I think the culinary tour was about an hour when we did it. YUM! You're going to love this place. It's our favorite resort for relaxation. :thumbsup2 Our shoulders begin to get all mushy right after we walk through the entrance doors. I can still smell Jiko's. :cloud9:

Congrats on the new tags everyone! :rotfl: :goodvibes

Thanks, dmaz and VAgal76 (hope that you are having as lovely a day down in Richmond as we are having up here in the DC area). Doesn't sound like those days will work for us. Think I'll keep the reservations the way they are.
