...actually, we've been to WDW twice during Prez Week, and I must say that it was wa-a-a-ay more crowded at Christmas than in Feb - don't forget, not everyone gets that week off.....

That's good to know--I have been a little concerned about crowd levels. DH is only going b/c he knows how much I want to go. He'd probably be just as happy sitting and watching tv in a Motel 6 room Thanks for the info Kimmar!

WOW, cant believe I have a little over 6 months until DH and I FINALLY get to Disney & AKL!! Next month I make our ADRs!! Anyways, our flight takes off at 11:14am and we will arrive in Orlando at 1:23pm. We are gonna be doing a Limo to and from airport and AKL. So Im figuring by the time we get off the plane, get our bags, get to the limo and get to AKL, im thinking 2:30pm - 3pm. Our room will hopefully be already when we check in. I know once we get into our room, we are just gonna wanna stay there looking at the animals (savannah view). Then Im hoping we can grab an ADR for Boma at 5pm. So we would go and eat dinner and probably be done between 6 and 7. Now after dinner, we plan on just sticking around AKL for the rest of the night. What would you all recommend us to do that night? We probably will hit the gift shop and take pics all around the resort. What else should we do for our 1st night at the Lodge?

Once it gets dark, head down to the savanna area near the pool (I think) and check out the animals through the night vision scope. I thought it was really neat. Of course based upon your ticker, your DH may use them all the time so it may not be as facinating to him.

Another thing that I did, was to stop a Mara and pick up a bottle of beer to drink while I was sitting on my balcony watching the animals.

Ok people all you pople on this thread got me hooked on AKL I swore that I was going to try all the hotels in WDW, and I was doing just fine until I started to read this thread before I went to AKL in November 2007. See what youguys did.

I booked my Disney summer vacation for the BC in July 2008 last week. After I made the resi I just couldnt stop thinking of AKL.

WELL I called back about tonight about 10 min ago and re-booked AKL (not to mention that I'm saving money)

Donald is #1 - No, DH doesnt use night vision scopes. Hes a mechanic - he works on equipment. So that would be a 1st time for the both of us.

I would recommend the Culinary Tour during the afternoon. You will get a tour of Jiko and Boma. Especially if you plan on eating at Boma later it is a great introduction as the whole buffet line will be explained to you by a chef.

In the evening there is the story telling at the fireplace (times vary with sun set), where African cast members tell stories from Africa. Also there is some cultural tour in the evenings. And the night vision has already been pointed out to you. And finally, I personally love sitting in the hot tub at night, possibly with a drink (I always took my refillable mug with me).

If you can afford it, why dont you push your arrival date by a couple days and arrive sooner but still leave on the 10th. That way you are there longer. If you like maybe we can have our own little DISMeet while we are there. Maybe have breakfast at the Mara one morning? It will just be me and DH. Whos all going with you? Also if you happen to be at lodge on the 5th and see a limo pull up between 2 and 3pm and see a woman and a guy who will look like hes in the military (military hair cut) that will be us!
