Hi all!

We just got back 2 days ago from our first stay & the AKL is fabulous, amazing, incredible. I can't wait until I get the opportunity to go back. We had a wonderful room 4527 (Zebra Trail, Arusha Savanna, Bunk Beds). The boys were in heaven with all of the animals & it was so relaxing. We also enjoyed the lodge activities & had a wonderful conversation with Nokwanda our new friend from South Africa. It was a great cultural experience. If I had to come up with something negative to say it would be the wait for buses a couple of times, but it was not bad--no more than 15 minutes & we always had a seat.

So after all of that, here is a video I put up about our stay. It might be a bit long, but hopefully it will help everyone get their AKL fix. Enjoy!

Yet more to come! ;)

We had so much fun at the AKL pool. Here are a few shots.

Here are the boys and I just bobbing along oh so happily! The pool was so uncrowded (which may have had something to do with the fact that the resort was only 1/2 full due to the construction) that it felt like our own "African swimming hole".

The slide is not extra tall or extra loopy or extra anything for that matter...but it was just right for having some water hole fun!

I think the next two pictures show just how relaxing the pool actually was!!

Between your video and jaycns' pictures and trip report, I am in AKL heaven! Thanks so much!! :cloud9:

Can someone tell me some of the AKL specific merchandise you can buy in the gift shop? I love coffee mugs and get at least two each trip, are there AKL ones there? I'd love to hear about it all.

They did have AKL coffee mugs & I think travel mugs too (in the gift shop, not the refillable kind). Several styles of AKL t-shirts for adults & kids (I got one for me). AKL frame, magnet, small notebook. AKL art prints. Hmmm, what else? Not AKL, but they had South African wines by the bottle at very reasonable prices. & of course the other African stuff like instruments, carvings, etc. I thought it was a great gift shop.

Pixe*dst, thanks for the great video. The boys looked so cute in the musical parade. Glad you enjoyed the AKL.

Sarah, love the video!!! We've been back home almost a week now, and it brought back some great memories! Thanks.

JAYCNS.!!!!!!!!!!!!..............What a great report and fantastic pics. Thanks for posting. You've made us even more excited for our first trip to AKV.

Also, can anyone out there offer some info. about the views from the different savannas. I've heard it's better to have a room along the outer edges? I'm wondering which savannas offer the best views of the animals?
(I tried going through this whole thread but it's over 600 pgs. :) ).

pxe*dust ~
Your video is just AWESOME!! Thank you for sharing it with us....:)

We just returned from a 7 night stay at the AKL. We had the most magical time, I can't even begin to describe it. We had room 2505 which was a Savannah view with a bunk bed. It was just down from the elevator to the pool, Mara, the arcade and a quick walk from the lobby which was great after a long day at the parks.

Most days we got a later start and didn't leave the resort until 10:30-11 so we didn't spend much time at the resort mid-day. We hit the pool late night after being in the parks which was a lot of fun for my daughter. You don't often get to stay up until midnight swimming in an African paradise.

We were only a few days into our trip when I started nagging the family about when we would be back. It surpassed all expectations, I can't come up with anything negative about our stay. I was very worried going in about the construction, but it didn't make the slightest difference. If I hadn't known it was going on, I am not sure I would have noticed.

I will work on a full trip report with pics, but wanted to get something quick posted.

Thanks to all for sharing their recent photos and experiences. We're only staying one night savannah view (DCL cruise the next day), but getting excited about AKL too. Can't wait to see the animals, experience the atmosphere, and taste the zebra domes.
