Hello All! We are back, got back late last night actually, and I wanted to just post a quick note to say that first of all, we had a great time as usual, the meals were fantastic for the most part, the weather was iffy, rained at some point during the day (sometimes more than once) every day but one, but we did not let it bother us. And as for the much worried about construction.....What Construction????? Seriously, we saw the "black drapes" in the lobby blocking the 5th and 6th floor, but I can honestly say that we heard nothing, and saw nothing unless we looked for it. Yes, you can see the construction site for the new villas (which DH was "this close" to buying into :sad2:), but as far as worrying about noise, dust, or hundreds of construction workings milling about inside the lodge, there was nothing to worry about. And DH and I spent a lot of time at the lodge during the day. I can say that we saw more "construction type action" at the Wilderness Lodge when we went to AP for dinner! The main entrance to the Mercantile was blocked off, as was the back entrance under the bear face rooms. So we worried about AKL construction for nothing. BTW, we were on the Giraffe Trail, pool view, above the fitness center, which is right where we asked to be. We were close to the pool, the spa, the fitness center, and the eats! Loved it. Only thing that would have made it better would have been 4th floor for a possible better view, but that is debatable since the trees are pretty high! Anyway, it was great, and we are booked for next year at the Poly!

We are leaving in two days for the lodge for our very first stay there and we are very excited.

Absolutely, it was on the Zebra trail. A very nice location indeed!

Thanks very much!! :) Were you closer to the lobby or the outer end of the resort?

What are the names and locations of the existing savannas at AKL resort? I can't find any info. on that , anyone? :thanks:

What a great thread!

Uzima Savannah (near the pool)

Arusha Savannah (the "central bowl" savannah)

Sunset Savannah (the savannah on the left side of the resort, if you're facing the front entrance).

So, Uzima is closes to the pool, Arusha in line with the lobby?, and Sunset along the Kudu trail? Thanks for the info.!!!!!

It's a long story, the Poly one.........has to do with special rates, etc, etc.....
But a year is a long way off, and things can change!
We were in 2034...you?

I am sure this has been posted before, but I wasn't too concerned about it before now. After reading someone's trip report, they asked to be switched to Zebra trail, because the view wasn't too great when they got there. We are booked for two savannah view bunk rooms. I have seen on here that people recommend Zebra trail. How do you request a room in a certain location?

Call CRO, tell them you'd like to add a request to your room reservation, and tell them what it is.

They'll take care of the rest, noting it on your ressie in their computer system.

...check out the AWESOME pic that FigmentGuy posted:

Ok..all you seasoned AKL Vets:)

Help....My DD10's dream has been to stay at AKL...even though we are staying in the Villas..where should I request? This is the one resort I admit not knowing much abt..although we visited back in 03..DD got to spend the night there with my SIL on our wedding night..all I recall is the long walk to their room...
Our stay is split up between Savanna and concierge, that one is hit or miss..they cannot guarantee a SV..may get a pool view. We are staying in a studio.
Oh, I do recall the bar next to the pool!!! lol

My request (and suggestion for requests) is pretty much always the same for Savannah view:

Zebra trail, near the elevators down to the pool area.

That puts you at about the mid point of Zebra trail (not too far from the lobby) with easy access via elevator to the pool, Mara, Boma, Jiko's, the fitness center, etc.

It just seems to be the most "centrally located" area with access to most of the resorts amenities.

It'll also keep you away from the construction site lines for Kidani Village, which will be across the sunset savannah. They wouldn't bother ME, but for some people they ruin the view. By the time you go, that should be the ONLY DVC related construction still going on, so.....
