I think we're going to be "stuck" getting a standard view room at AKL in January. We have to get 3 rooms and I can't ask the other people in our party to pony up the extra money to get the SV. So, if any one could give me suggestions about what room # to request or what area to request as far as standard views, I would love it.

I've read that if you are fairly specific about your room request (location, etc.) that it's more likely that the front desk will honor it. Not sure if this is accurate, but I will err on the safe side!

Thanks for any help.

I am so excited. We have been booked at AKL pool view for the last couple of weeks for 10/26-11/1. I called today to see if a Disney Visa code applied to our reservation. The pool view wasn't available, but we did get a savannah view room for a savings of $120. I am so excited. The kids have no idea about this trip. They think we are going next October. They keep telling me when we go next time we want to stay at AKL. Not sure if I can keep it a secret until then.

I am trying to find some information on AK Conceirge. Where would I find this information without going through 1000's of posts.

We just bought at AKV's and we are interested in the conceirge rooms and need more information...

Here is some info from allearsnet:
AKL Conceirge

It doesn't look like it has been updated yet for AKV, but I would hope that it will be similar.

Sounds like a great deal!! Have a wonderful trip! :thumbsup2 And good luck with keeping the secret!!

ATTENTION:
New executive chef at Animal Kingdom Lodge's Jiko - The Cooking Place is Brian Piasecki, formerly of Le Cellier Steakhouse at Epcot's Canada. Piasecki replaces chef Anette Grecchi Gray, who left Jiko for Texas-based Carlson Companies, Inc., the parent company of T.G.I. Friday's and Radisson Hotels....

That makes me feel a LITTLE better about Chef Anette leaving. We love Jiko's (Le Cellier, too!) and I was a bit worried about what would change whit a new executive chef coming in...they always want to infuse a bit of themselves into the menus. But I think this is good choice....

Hi

We are a family of 5 and I just changed my reservation from Standard to Pool View, however did not realize untl the end that Pool View only had 1 Q and bunk beds available (no 2 Queens available)....My boys are not crazy about bunks (go figure)..Is there a noticeable space difference by having the bunks vs. a queen (if so the extra room might be worth the inconvenience of no second queen, expecially since we will have a pak n play.

What trail would you recommend I ask for with pool view ?

Also, are both restaurants good for kids at AKL or do you recommend 1 vs. the other?

TIA, :goodvibes

I guess we still won't see any cheddar cheese soup at Jiko's... Of course now we have to worry about Le Cellier and I have not managed to try that restaurant yet. I hope it will keep up its good standard!

I haven't had too much time to read through all the posts but I was wondering if you have to book a standard view room what opportunities you have to see the animals on the Savannah. I caught a phrase called "the people pen" so I assume that is where people can go to see the animals. Just wondering what else is available :) Thanks!:goodvibes

sorry, I have never been in a bunk bed room, but I hope someone else can help with that question

with regard to location of the pool view room, I think both trails along the pool offer great locations. Zebra trail will mean that you are closer to the Savannah and you might have the chance to look out onto it while walking to your room. Giraffe trail has the advantage that you can exit directly to the bus area. I think the distance to the food court would be the same from both trails, but you could specifically request to be close to the lobby which would also get you close to the food court. And if a view of the pool is important, request a higher floor. Otherwise you might be hidden behind some trees.

Boma is very suitable for kids. The food there might sound a bit more exotic, but there are children offerings like mac and cheese. Jiko is a much more upsacle dining experience than Boma. When we were there, there were a number of children. Just keep in mind that it is a rather quiet restaurant and the meal is much more spaced out. I think we spent 2,5 hours for dinner.

Have a great trip!!

I was wondering if anyone could comment on this as well. Are there better standard rooms than others? And I still wanted to make sure there are plenty of other opportunities to view the animals, which I'm sure there are :) Thanks!

...unless your children are truly adventuresome eaters with hearty appetites, I personally wouldn't recommend Jiko...however, depending upon your DS's ages, you might want to enroll them in the Simba's Den and have a 'romantic' dinner at Jiko with your honey....also, the Mara is a great place for kids - while, in reality it's probably best described as a 'cafeteria-style' eatery, the selections are quite good, varied, and reasonably priced! Boma is an awesome place to, for EITHER dinner or breakfast ~ it is our 2nd fave place to eat dinner, Le Cellier being our favorite....

The bunk bed room will be much better for you if you have to fit a pak n play in for sure. We had a bunk room last time, and have one booked again this time because the bunks are big enough to fit my "over 6 ft" boys in, and it gives you much more walking space. I think you'll be fine with that, and who knows, when your boys see the bunks, they may just love 'em!
