What? What happend????? :earseek:

BTW, Great photos...I don't think people here would mind that you post photos here. Great Memories for the ones who have been there and great expectations for the ones that haven't. LIKE ME!!!!!

My GUESS (and it's only a guess) is that there was a REAL "Caddyshack" situation going on. It's the only time I've ever seen pools cleared out, other than a thunderstorm (and the sky looks blue as blue can be, sooo.....)

Just returned from AKL on 6/12 and I can't even describe how magical and amazing our vacation was. This was our family's first trip to WDW and will be the first of many. We have already decided to stay at AKL again next time, despite our desire to see other resorts as well.

Everything was perfect. We stayed in a savannah view room, on the Kudu trail, second building from the lobby, second floor. Views of the animals were AMAZING!! I don't know if the animal handlers do this on purpose, but every day was a different experience - zebras, then ankole cattle, then kudu, then giraffes, up close, no more than thirty feet from our balcony. We sat in our balcony during our afternoon nap and during a short thunderstorm and watched the kudu chasing the zebra and running from the thunder - it was simply breathtaking.

We ate at Boma three times and would have done more. Their breakfast buffet was fantastic! Our five year old loved the buffet as well, so many choices! We didn't get a chance to try Jiko but will next time.

Mara also exceeded our expectations. We ate there several times and brought back to our room a few times as well. We had in-room breakfast once and it too was right on time, expensive but not for room service at a deluxe hotel.

We did not hear one iota, not even one tiny hint of construction noise at any time. We did see construction through windows on the opposite side of kudu trail (the opposite side from the arusha rock savannah) and the views didn't look like they would be too pleasant from those rooms. We didn't spend any time in the zebra trail, though, and that is where I was told the construction is currently underway.

The rooms were plenty spacious, even with the pack and play crib set up. We got towel animals each morning and a paper outside our room. Our best move was Garden Groceries - we ordered groceries before our trip and the deliveryman called while we were on the magical express, and then arrived to our room five minutes after we did. We kept water, milk, soda, etc. in our fridge and had crackers, snacks, diapers, wipes, all that stuff sent ahead so we didn't have to pack it.

I could say more but won't ramble - AKL is highly recommended!

By the way, this is my first post but we spent a of time on these boards before our trip and thank everyone for the great information - we were well prepared!

:welcome: Glad you had a wonderful time!! :woohoo: Now you know why we all love AKL so much!! :cloud9:

Thanks for posting about your trip! We heard very little construction noise when we were there (late May). It seems the construction is becoming less and less of an issue as far as inconveniencing guests! YAY!! :yay:

Did the construction affect your stay?
How close were you to the animals?

REally how long did it take?

What about the busses to the resorts? Were they pretty quick and came often enough?

Glad you had a great trip! Congrats!

It was about a 15 minute trip! No stops until MK baby!!! We happened to luck into a bus waiting for us coming and going too!

What? What happend????? :earseek:

Absolutely not. We never once heard any construction noise whatsoever. In fact, contrary to some reviews I had read prior to our trip, the rooms were very quiet. As I said though, we were on the Kudu trail and were told that they were currently working on the Zebra trail. I would call ahead and ask what is scheduled to be underway when you're visting, and then fax a room request to be located away from that construction about a week before you arrive. That's what we did and it worked great...

I didn't post any pictures but the ones a few posts back are representative - the animals were routinely within thirty feet of our balcony.

Also I forgot to mention earlier, the bus service was fantastic. We must have been lucky because we usually waited less than five minutes, actually usually a bus was waiting. Our longest wait was closing time at MK and was about ten minutes. The trip to AK was 4 minutes, to Epcot 8 minutes, MGM 10 minutes (one stop at Blizzard Beach), and MK 19 minutes.

We checked into AKL on June 7 and checked out the morning of June 10. We were on Zebra Trail, 3rd floor, right next to the elevator (room 3501). We never heard any construction noise at all in our room. On the evening of June 7, we were at the pool and could hear some construction noise coming from the direction of the rooms that would be over the restaurants and opening on to the lobby (my ears could have been playing tricks on the direction though). In addition, we could see a ladder on the roof of the lobby-rooms location I just described. Never heard any other construction noise the entire stay. Just an awesome resort!

That is exactly the same experience we had! :thumbsup2

JUST CHECKING IN TO SEE MY COUNDOWN TICKER:goodvibes

Great reviews and pictures everyone!!! I love reading about AKL and looking at the pictures!!! Now only if my ticker would move faster so I could be there for real!!

Thanks for the updates on construction everyone. I was a bit concerned when I intially heard about it but it sounds like it won't be an issue. Just two weeks to go!! :D

we had a letter from our travel agent this morning to warn us of the construction and DH was ready to ask to switch until I told him that you guys on here say there's nothing to worry about and now he's totally relaxed again, so THANK YOU everyone for keeping us abreast of the situation.:thumbsup2

Can anyone tell me if I need to book Boma if I am staying at AKL? It would be for my birthday night. Are the birthday cakes really expensive/good? Can the IP get anything special? Do I have to pay anything extra besides my club level room fee?

Yes, as far as I have heard Boma regularly is often absolutely booked with ADRs. They do not hold back tables for walk-ups by resort guests. If you know when you want to eat there, IPO should be able to arrange an ADR for you.

With regard to birthday cakes, I would recommend this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1173219

But if you want to eat at Boma on your birthday you might be too full from the food there to really enjoy the cake :confused3 But on the other hand, what would a birthday be without a cake??? :cake:

Hope you have a fantastic day!!!
