I wish I'd found this site -- particularly this thread -- a month ago! We just got back from an unpleasant stay at AKL. It was our fourth stay there, but this experience makes it our last. TiggerAllie, our room also had a view of Fecal Flats, but we were refused a move.
Wow! I'm shocked they refused to move your room (unless it was only 1 night and they were full). That just seems like very bad guest service.

Here is a picture of where the "Fecal Flats" area is (at the end of Kudo Trail):
97002FFmap.jpg

Odd numbered rooms 2341-2365, 3341-3365, 4341-4365, 5351-5365
Even numbered rooms 2372-2394, 3372-3394, 4372-4394, 5372-5394

We'd stayed one night and we were scheduled for four more nights after I (very nicely, very politely -- I use good manners!) requested the move. Smirking clerk flatly refused, citing 99% occupancy overall. We'd paid in advance, so we were unable to just leave. You were right that they should charge less for the bogus Savannah view rooms, since there aren't animals on view.

We were just very unlucky this time with guest service overall. I had to put in a special request to have our room vacuumed at all (was told that most guests don't want their rooms cleaned during their stay -- seriously). We also got the bad draw of an eyerolling, sighing, reluctant concierge when we tried to arrange a couple of simple dining reservations/tickets, and we eventually gave up.

We just got the overwhelming feeling during this stay that we were nothing more than a number, and that if they lost our business it didn't matter a whit to them. It felt like Fawlty Towers without the humor. It was contemptuous treatment, which I've not experienced there before. (Obviously, since this was our fourth trip to AKL, seventh to WDW overall!) There were a couple of exceptions. The wait staff in the restaurants were pleasant overall, and one of the wildlife guides was wonderful.

Oh, and we were put in the same hidden area of Jiko as you, TiggerAllie, but we were fortunate enough to get a wonderfully attentive waitress, so that more than compensated.

Hi PracPerPatricial :)

Email this person d.kurz@verizon.net and inquire about the lanyards - I bought 4 in September, they are really nice, good quality, DIS Green with 'DIS' all overthem, really cute. I picked up 4 and with shipping to Canada the total was 24.00.

Here is a pic

Cass- :scratchin thanks for the info...I just emailed...hoping they still available...

cupcaketrip...sorry you had this exprerience... :sad2: I was a little depressed that we weren't doing Savannah view (we're pool view) but now I'm thinking we shouldn't take an upgrade (if offered) or ask if it is in Fecal Flats first.... :rolleyes1

Thanks. And like I said, I didn't want to bring anyone down, but IMO someone who's forewarned will be prepared at check-in and is going to have a better experience than we did.

If you take the upgrade, just look at the map first. Try to get something reasonably close to the lobby, and stay away from the back two blocks on either side of the map (as shown on TiggerAllie's post).

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Cupcaketrip--I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know sometimes they can't change your room right away, but I have never seen them not do it after the next day's checkout. I wonder if you had spoken to someone else if they would have changed it. (But I totally understand why you may not have, as it is not fun to have to deal with changing rooms, especially not when the staff makes you feel like you are making a stink.)

After that and two bad experiences with the concierge desk the same day, we were just totally disheartened by the level of service, and gave up. I actually did take a peek at the front desk the next morning and the same people were on, so I figured there was really no point in bothering. We just drew a short straw in terms of staffing this trip.

I'm glad that you did get a room change and that it helped make your holiday better, though!

cupcaketrip - boy you sure did! That stinks! :( We were there at the same time as you (I think) and we had great service at check-in and the concierge to get our boarding passes - actually we had great service everywhere. I remember being pleased that everyone we dealt with was so friendly.

brookelizabeth - Were you wearing and DH wearing the wedding ears? We saw a couple getting pictures w/them on by the firepit...

Are newspapers available at the front desk, or do they deliver them to the room?

Are the papers local, or is USA Today an option?

Thanks!

We got USA Today left outside our door each weekday morning (not weekends). I think that may be standard at deluxes, because we got it at BC too.

We stayed concierge and every day, Monday-Friday, USA Today was delivered to our door; papers were not delivered on Saturday and Sunday, but a whole assortment were available in the lounge.

It was very quiet this year, usually we have around 150kids, I don't think we had 50.

I think the night we hung out by the firepit was when we were dining at Boma so our ears were off...we actually only wore them one full day because the hat was a bit too small for hubby's noggin. :)
