Can I ask you to elaborate on the PFTS seating issue.
I've been a bit concerned about it from reading about it
(what little I can find) on other posts. We are only 2 going to this event -
if we claim a table is it ours - or do we lose it if we both get up to get food?

Ahhh, yes - if it's just the 2 of you and you both leave the table at the same time, you *may* lose it. You could also offer to "share" a table for 4 with another couple and that would solve that [potential] problem. ;) There were 3 of us and early in the evening, we protected our turf - but after a little while it seemed that everyone had found their *spot* and we had no problem leaving our table at the same time!! :thumbsup2

Wendy I think I need your DS's energy! I haven't a got a single thing packed yet :scared1: I have today off but spent the am at my grandma's and I'm going to get my hair done in an hour. Then off to the mall to pick up a few things.

Ok the purses I sent UPS on Friday, but the tracking number I have shows no progress on the bags :furious: So after I get my hair done I'm calling the UPS Store to see what is up. They are supposed to arrive at the lodge tomorrow!!!!

Oh and then the flowers tried to order last night and they wanted to charge me twice for delivery so I sent an e-mail, but haven't heard back yet.

So much to do so little time.

did you see that a space shuttle might go off while we are there? I think that would be so cool to see and I guess you can see them from WDW property!!

Hey ~~ Wow, hopefully all worked out today!!!! I'm so busy I've only got a minute to say "HI" and BYE!!! Listen, I'm sending you a pm.

Oh, as for the shuttle, YES, I hope it goes up while we are there, I've seen it before from Disney!!!!! It's neat!

Lisa and Wendypooh and everyone else going in the next week have a great trip!

I have a brain cramp about who is signing up kids for Adventure camp at AKL. Just remember to bring an extra space because not only did they get an Ostrich egg but also a straw safari hat and a goodie bag. My niece and nephew (twins, 8 1/2yo)really enjoyed their time there. There were only six kids that day and they got lots of attention. My niece loved sitting on the verandah that was closed off especially for them and eating lunch in a rocking chair while watching the animals.

LAWalz23; we are going to AKL on 09/16 - 09/23 and my kids really want to decorate the Ostrich egg. My DD is 13 and DS is 10, is DD too old? Do you know what day and time (and how much $$) for this activity? This may be a dumb question, but can you ship the egg home? If not I will definitely make extra room in luggage, but am wondering if Airlines may give us a hard time about bringing the eggs home?

Thanks so much for your help!

Faith :wave2:

To all my Jambo! WildBunch gang:

Have a safe and wonderful vaca.....bring back LOTS of pix! :thumbsup2

Originally posted by Wendypooh, and I believe she also posted somewhere that they will ship the eggs home for you (not sure if there is an extra charge for that). Her son is planning on doing this while they are there (NOW!) so watch for her posts when she returns. I know I will be watching for it too!

** Adventure Camp Info **

AKL Adventure Camp...$70 (includes $30 cost of ostrich egg). Children 6-14 will love this interactive adventure. Camp includes real ostrich egg painting, private Lodge tour with special animal viewing, and buffet lunch (not in Boma, but includes sandwiches & wraps) overlooking the Savannah. Currently takes place on Wednesday.

My parents just got back from Africa and brought back several ostrich eggs. They didn't run into any problems at the airport on account of the eggs. I wish my niece and nephew could do the Adventure Camp, but my niece is still too young and I don't know if it would fit into our schedule well. But I'm curious to hear about it.

I know the list of AKL activities has been posted before, but I was wondering if anyone could also provide a brief description of them.

Just got back from our 4 night stay at AKL. What a beautiful place! We were supposed to stay in a standard view room (as part of a trip package I won), but when we checked in we were advised that we were being upgraded to a Savannah view :cool1: What a great surprise. We were in room 2284. It was at the end of the savannah, but still great close-up views of the animals. The giraffes walked righ by the balcony......it was truly an amazing experience! I'm so glad I had the opportunity to stay at AKL. I'm not sure I would have thought to stay there otherwise, but it was definitely worth it for anyone that may be on the fence! Boma was excellent and the pool/slide were both great! Didn't have time to do any of the activities for the kids, but there were plenty being offered! GREAT PLACE!!!!!

Thanks to all who responded abou the Ostrich Eggs. My kids are so looking forward to this. Looks like Wendypooh will have lots of people picking her brain when returning.

While I have you all, one more question. We are leaving in 15 days (I can't believe it) :Pinkbounc for AKL and we have booked a standard room. The standard room wasn't my favorite choice, but made the AKL "do able" for us. I booked our package through Disney back in June and requested bunk beds. I was just reading a post on another thread that someone thought bunk beds would not be available in a standard and cost extra. At the time I booked I inquired if there was an extra fee that would guarantee the beds and was told no. Does anybody know if there are bunk beds available in a standard and/or if I can pay more for them to guarnatee the beds?

Thanks for the help!

Faith

I've posted this is another thread also, but seeing this is the official AKL thread, I figured you guys might be able to answer my query.

I have had the option to stay at AKL for the whole of my vacation (3 wks) instead of doing a 3 way split, 7 nights Caribbean Resort, 7 nights AKL and 7 nights Crowne Plaza Universal.

Do you think I should just stay at AKL for the whole vacation. My concern is transportation and AKL is so far away from the other resorts/parks. As I intend doing Universal/Seaworld/Discovery Cove I worry that I won't be able to access transport easily on I-Drive can someone confirm or deny this? I need to confirm my booking and pay the deposit tomorrow.

Thanks

Faith, we were advised to get wrap (the brown paper and white tissue paper) from the gift shop and my niece and nephew actually brought the ostrich eggs home in their back packs without incident. They probably could have been shipped home along with the straw safari hats. It was 4 hours from 10am to 2pm on a Saturday and I was able to sign them up the day before and pay for it when we signed them in. There was a sign on the activities board about the day and time. Funny thing is I hadn't said anything about it to the kids because I had seen that it was on Wednesdays but apparently it is also offered other days of the week. The parents get a pager and the staff also took my sister's cell phone number and the number of an emergency contact.
Also about the bunk beds, I don't know what the criteria to get them is because I had requested them so niece and nephew were not sharing a bed but we were told the resort was 99% full and that bunk beds are far and few between and I paid for concierge. Didn't think that we had a deluxe room (because the room is much smaller than the Poly or Contemporary) until 3 nights later when we moved to a regular savannah room, that room was even smaller. I understand that starting in January, bunkbeds are their own category.

The only other activities were the night vision goggles, very cool, and the parade in the lobby one night, kids got a certificate for participating.

Will you be renting a car? If you do, then I wouldn't be concerned about getting to any of the parks from AKL. If you'll be relying on public transportation, you might have difficulty getting to the non-Disney parks. :confused3

Thank you so much for all the help. That's interesting that it was on a Saturday, I too had read the post about this activity being on a Weds. Wow, it took 4 hours for this. Looks like DH and I will be forced to have a drink and relax (lol). So they do sell the wrap in the gift shop? I may have DS & DD take them home in their packbacks, have a feeling those treasures will be hard to part with.

Also, thanks for the info on the bunk beds. Perhaps when I get to the resort I will inquire about paying extra for a room where bunk beds are available (if this is an option at that time). I just have to be careful about the room; DS has severe asthma so a smoking room doesn't work for us.

You've been so helpful! Thanks again. :wave2:
