We are scheduled to take both Sunrise and Wanyama Safaris, but I have some concern about potential bumpiness. How rough is the terrain on the Sunrise Safari and what is the duration of the bumpiness? Generally what is the experience like. I know the entire safari is supposed to be about an hour. If the bumpiness lasts just for a short period of time, it may be doable. If it's too bumpy, I may need to sit out that experience as much as I'd love to participate. By definition I know is a savannah is a flat plain. So is the Wanyama Safari entirely over fairly flat terrain, or is it bumpy as well? If there is some bumpiness, can you be more specific? Thanks.

Kimmar-are you a Jersey girl? :cool1: I grow up outside of Philadelphia so I spent a lot of time at the shore growing up... :sunny:

We have friends that have a house in Avalon-and he is definately a Jersey boy... :beach:

Isn't it kind of funny how "Disneyfied" the whole Boardwalk area is? :rotfl2: (And I love both places-the real one and the Disney version...lol) But as DH says the Disney version is kind of a fantasy turn of the century Atlantic City version... pixiedust:

Our friends are pretty intensely healthy eaters (even when we went to the Boardwalk in Ocean City... :confused3 ) and we didn't want to tempt their kids but my DD had a food breakdown as soon as we left them (& she is a pretty healthy eater for a almost 12 year old...) She wanted to go to Uncle Bill's Pancake House, get a Kohr's custard, curly fries and Johnson's carmel corn... :rotfl2: We did this in stages so she didn't get ill...

Speaking of Wildwood...we weren't there this year but we were last year and I'm thinking Disney needs to add one of those bungee balls don't you think? You know the one from Morey's Pier where you get in the round capsule and you get shot about 5 stories in the air and then bungee back and forth? :rotfl:

Well it certainly is a small world after all :dance3:

...not to mention tht it is wa-a-a-a-a-y better to board a chilly air-conditioned bus than to enter a HOT, steamy car with seats that you BETTER NOT sit upon wearing a pair of shorts!!! [OUCH!]

Oh Kimmar, those were my exact thoughts over the weekend. It was 100*+ here in Wisconsin, certainly not "normal" (heat indexes were over 100 for several days in a row, and can you say HUMID?!) I remember getting into my boiling hot car with lousy a/c and thinking to myself, "at least when we're in Disney and it's this hot, we can climb onto a cool, air conditioned bus instead of getting into to a %#$!*&! hot car like this!!

And it was good practice for my DD8 who is now officially sick of me saying, "you know, it's going to be this hot when we're at Disney....but at least the pool's open 24 hours..." :sad2: (her reaction)

At first I was a little jealous to see some of the Jambo WildBunch going to AKL in 20something days, especially since I have forever to wait (ok, well, actaully only 68 days). But then I realized how much fun & wisdom you'll be bringing back to share with the rest of us so maybe it's not all bad that you get to go first?! popcorn::

Either way, I'm so darn excited I could just scream!!! :woohoo:

we are taking our first thanksgiving trip to disney...can't wait.
We are looking forward to staying at the AKL. We have always stayed at WL, i know both are great. But its time for change.

I agree I have 45 days left if I counted correctly...I can hardly wait to hear kimmar's trip report and see the pictures that she takes.

Hi all! I'm new to the boards and noticed this thread.

I LOVE the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Myself and my BF stayed there last year but only for two days (since we were broke :(). I didn't get to explore much but it's the BEST resort experience I've ever had...the animals....the smell of the fireplace...the food.....oh man, EVERYTHING is just awesome (I especially love the bathroom countertop.....hahah)

This year we are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge again but this time for five nights!!!!!! I'm totally exited!! I can't wait to explore the resort a lot more since I didn't really have the time last year.

68 days until check-in....and couting!

p.s. --- When we went last year I made SURE that before we left Disney for good we went back to the AKL (we stayed in more than one place) to buy some Zebra Domes for the way home....Well those Zebra Domes never made it to my mouth. Since I wasn't feeling good the day we left to drive home to NY I decided to wait on eating them, so I put them in the cooler, on top. By the time I got around to eating them they were soaked in water......I was SO upset. BUT!!! This time.....I'm heading right to The Mara when I check-in, before I even go to my room, so I can FINALLY have a damn Zebra Dome!!! :simba:

....he's go-o-o-o-o-o-o-d..... :rolleyes1 (mebbe 40%??)

I'll just reset one side to 100 pixels.. the other will be smaller to preserve the aspect ratio but at least it will be the max allowed by the 100 x 100 spec.

Size = 100 x 66

File size is 18k, though. If it chokes on that, let me know and I'll try to optimize it a bit. Since it's getting so small, I tried not to compress anything from the original to preserve as much detail as possible.

The Wanyama safari was entirely on paved roads for us. The service roads they use throughout the various savannahs gave plenty of access to the animals. We were able to stand up in the back of the truck pretty much the entire time. I don't think you'll have any problem at all.

I have a TON of the pool area too but I think I have posted some before and I now others have too. I have a few more that I might load and post later.

Whats everyone's favorite area of AKL to hang out? Just paid off my Visa bill today - AKL is completely paid for 8/17-20. DS & I are taking those 3 days off from the parks (right in the middle of our 2 wk vacation) and R E L A X I N G

She wanted to go to Uncle Bill's Pancake House,...

That is the favorite restaurant in Cape May for my sons! Last year was the first year my oldest did not go with us, so I bought a bag of their pancake mix for him.

I told him since he did not want a party for graduation, he could choose a vacation, and he picked CM; we are going there in a few weeks.

Of course, I did have a party for the hubby's family (his SIL insisted my son have a graduation party whether he wanted one or not!) at Boma in April when we were down in FL for Y Nats.

AKL and CM: what a way to celebrate!
