We just got to apply the new code to our ressie. We are able to upgrade to a Savannah room from our original standard room for little or no cost or, we can pocket the nearly 800 in savings.. This trip started out as a quick trip to WDW during "Jersey Week" We intended to only do 5 days at Pop, well as usual we end up going above and beyond what we intended. This happens everytime we plan a trip. I'm thinking I'd like to save the money on the other hand I have read that unless you have a Savannah view the AKL is not worth staying at. We love doing the parks and have only one day planned for the Lodge. We can affored to do the Savannah but would really love to save the money. Any help or input would be a big help.......

Thanks.........

From what I've heard no matter what view you go with its worth staying at the AKL because u can see the animals from anywhere around the resort grounds and other viewing locations. Never stayed there or even been there before so cant really tell you. Also Ive heard that AKL tends to give out free upgrades. DH and I are staying there next Aug and have a standard view, but praying we get a free upgrade. Our chances might be a little high because we are going the week right before free dining if they have it again and if its the same dates as this yr and heard its not that busy down there during that time. Plus Im gonna have my AAA TA mention to them when making our ressies to make a note on our ressie that its our 3rd anniversary and celebrating DH return home from Iraq. So maybe that to will help to give us some extra pixie dust. If you absouletely want savannah, I would go ahead and book it, but if u can live with a standard view, I would go with a standard view. Who knows you to might get some extra magic and get a free upgrade.

Jambo Everyone! I just love saying that. I've been to the Lodge a couple of times to eat at Boma, but I've not done any exploring. That's what I'm most excited about.

Wendy & Lisa - less than 2 weeks out :cool1: I'm so excited right now I can't stand it. I can't imagine what kind of fool I'm going to act like when I get that close. The folks I work with think I'm crazy, and I won't even tell you what my kids think of me. Needless to say, they just don't get it. Although, I have had several guys at work ask me for advice as they're taking their families down in the next few months. They don't like to get me started though. I tend to go on and on and on and on...you get the picture.

Thanks to everyone who posted the info about The Mara too. I've been to the World twice in the last 12 month. I do have the dining plan booked again this time, so I find it works best for me to grab a light breakfast at the quick service place before I head out.

Janet, I hope I don't "run" into you while I'm there. I tend to get wrapped up in my own thoughts and find it can get dangerous, at times. It'll be hard, but I'll try to pay attention to where I'm going.

bigcrit - I too have a standard room booked this time. To be honest, I didn't think at the time I would be spending much time in the resort so it wouldn't be worth it to me to spend the extra dollars. I've haven't tried to upgrade yet because I can't make up my mind. Since I'm going alone, I probably won't want to just sit on my balcony much. I'm thinking I'll go exploring and find all of the best "public" places to see the animals. Part of the fun for me is starting up a conversation with other folks.

Thank you for the nice welcome Wendypooh! We have our Savannah room all booked. Although we considered standard, the idea of stepping out on the balcony first thing in the morning to see what animals may or may not be out there was too much to resist. True, we can always ask to switch if we end up with a view of a dumpster or something, but I'm pretty sure we'll be happy with whatever view we get.

I'll probably have more questions in the future. I hope you don't mind. :)

We are the same way. We love to explore and talk to people. I think I am going to save my money and just go with the flow. My only concern would be if we were very far from the lobby.

Thanks.....

Happy Anniversary Viki!!! 7 days!!! Cool ~~ Have fun!!!!

Thank you, friend! Victoria and Alberts called today to confirm the 20th anniversary dinner - that's a first!

We will be staying at AKL for the first time over Labor Day Weekend. It's a surprise for my 8yr old DD & my 23 yr old Sister who is getting ready to start medical scool. We usually stay at the values so this a real treat for us. Can't wait.....12 days left. :woohoo:  :woohoo:

yes it is!!! Is your DD moore excited now that she knows you are staying at AKL instead of the value resort?

Yes she is Lisa! She is THRILLED!!! Now she keeps talking about it and after I told her, she actually had trouble falling asleep for a few nights (now she knows how I feel!) Our luggage tags arrived on Friday and now I'm really glad I told her because there is no way I could've got our luggage checked in without her noticing those bright yellow tags that say "Animal Kingdom Lodge". :thumbsup2

Have a great time on your upcoming trip!!!

A few of us will be checking in on or around the 2nd and 3rd~~~ Jambo!!!! Have a wonderful trip!! You will LOVE AKL!!! Make sure you check the activities board in the lobby for things for your DD to do while at the lodge!!!

I love AKL! We just got back Saturday from our first trip to AKL, and I loved everything about it. So sad to be home, now. We loved Boma, loved the pool, loved the room, loved the people there. The only thing that surprised us was that the housekeeping kind of declined after the first few days, but we weren't in the room too much anyway.

This was my thoughts when ours arrived :teeth: My boys really believe me now where we are staying :Pinkbounc

Tinknme, when did your luggage tags arrive? Mine came Friday. Did you receive your welcome packet (Planet Hollywood vouchers, etc.)? I didn't receive that packet yet but I did receive my luggage tags; I've read a lot of posts that the luggage tags arrive AFTER the welcome packet?!

What's up with only receiving 1 luggage tag per person?! I was planning on 2 suitecases down (2 in our party) and checking one large duffle bag in addition on the flight home (plan to buy lots of suvies). But now I won't have enough luggage tags....anyone else have this problem?

Thats how it is. 1 tag per person. Its always been like that. You can always go out and buy more luggage tags. May not be disney but hey its still a luggage tag.

But these tags are for the airport to know where our luggage is going (and for ME to know which resort), not the kind of tags you put on with your name on. They are bright yellow...

hmm...

we have four nights booked at akl for the end of our trip in January, I'm seriously considering upgrading to concierge, mainly because I'd love to surprise dh with the sunrise safari

what are the other main benefits? also roughly what is the difference in price, I think at this point I would have to call akl and upgrade through disney rather than our ta

and my last question (for now, mwahaha!) to concierge level rooms have a savanah view? dh is realy excited about seeing the animals...

Oh I see. Maybe you can call Disney or ur TA and have them send u more. If not, you can always pick up your own bags. That would be better anyway cuz then you dont have to worry about them getting lost, stolen or have them be delayed getting to your resort.
