My cousin has decided to get married in jamaica next January. The resort my aunt said she is looking at is called Coral Cove. I've looked it up online and I'm sure that its not a place that my DH and I would be interested in staying at for a week.

If she sticks with this resort then we will probably plan to go on down ahead of time and stay somewhere else until just before the wedding and then head down there for a night or two for the wedding. I'm thinking somewhere in either Montego Bay or Negril.

I don't know much of anything about Jamaica or either of these beaches. Any suggestions? We would want an all inclusive resort.

I was kind of surprised at the reviews after looking at the pictures and stuff. I guess if you want a very small intimate place this is it. I read that beach shoes are a must because of the shells. I'm pretty sure there was no pool and the dining "options" are non existent.

We would be more interested in somewhere with several restaurants and pools and things to do. We'll also have the kids with us and it looked like they had very few rooms that would accomodate a family of 4 and it also looked like most of the rooms do not have air conditioning. Thats a must for us.

One thing you would need to check is if you can only book one or two nights at the resort or if you must book for a week. Same with the place that you would be staying at before the wedding.

I assume she is planning a small wedding since the property isn't very big. If so, would this be more like a family reunion? Where all the family stays together and gets to interact with each other for several days before and after the wedding? That is something that you need to think about as well. If you are at another resort and the rest of the family is at this one, you won't get to see much of each other.

You know its funny, when my aunt was first telling me about this she said that she said mentioned to my cousin that if everyone spent the money to get down there then they were probably going to want to make a vacation of it and she said that was fine it was a big resort and they probably wouldn't even see eachother unless we planned it.

She must not have looked at the website. Its very small. It was reccomended to her by her fiances brother or someone.

She recently moved to Nebraska with her fiance and the wedding was going to be there. I'm glad that they have decided on a destination wedding instead. Nothing against Nebraska but I think it would have cost us a fortune in airfare and hotel for the long weekend for the wedding. I'd rather spend the money toward going somewhere like Jamaica.

Our family is pretty small, just my mom and and my aunt really. My cousin has a half sister and brother that will probably come and then I think that she is inviting a few of her close friends. Not sure who will actually spend the money to go though either to Jamaica or Nebraska. I kind of wish she would just come back here and get married but it doesn't sound like she wants to. Her fiances parents have already said they aren't traveling to the wedding. (they are in nebraska) My DD was asked to be a flower girl and we accepted, of course I didn't know at that time the wedding might be in nebraska.

I was going to tell you to look into Sandals Negril but it sounds like you'll have your kids with you and Sandals is a couples only resort.

Beaches is the family version of Sandals and there are 2 located in Negril. Sandy Bay is a smaller resort but a fraction of the cost of Beaches Negril and they have exchange privlages.

DH and I visit Jamaica every year, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

There is a website Negril.com that has lots of info and a message board.
Coco La Palm Negril is all inclusive family frienldy, there are 2 RIU resorts in Negril as well they are quite large all inclusives , Grand Pineapple a Sandals operated property, Beaches Sandy Bay also in the Sandal family. All family friendly all inclusive. Negril is a beautiful beach, it is in a 3rd world country, the water is safe to drink food is great, the people are lovely, there are people trying to sell you stuff on the beach and they can be aggresive you have to learn to say no I am not interested.

We stayed at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay a couple of years ago and we all had a great time. The resort was very clean, the food was good, staff friendly and attentive and there was lots to do. My kids had a ball there. I would definitely go back again.

DH and I actually honeymooned at the Riu Negril (I think by now it's been renovated, but it was still in great condition when we went.) It's a very family-friendly place, with really clean beaches (cleaned at 5 am) and beautiful grounds. There were lots of options for food, rooms were a good size, and staff were all very friendly & helpful.
wonder why she chose that resort instead of one one of the other ones?

I think maybe his brother or someone they knew had just come back from there and had a really good time.

It just seems very small to me. It got really great reviews on trip advisor but looking at the picutres I know its not somewhere I would want to vacation for a week.

I'm not a big fan of Montego Bay--it's too much of a city, so I'd probably choose something in Negril, especially since Coral Cove is close to negril.
