Jaime's Flower Power Trip! NEW 7/05 CH. 62: The "Really" End **COMPLETED**

CHAPTER 10: That Lady Stole My Plan! – STILL SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2007

The stand-by line for Soarin’ was 35 minutes. Both Rhonda and I had noted, as we had passed, that the Living with the Land boat ride had no line. We quickly confer and decide that’s first…

I hadn’t done it since they took away the guides and put in the automated tour voice. Turned out there was a line, because they weren’t open yet! We were 2nd in line, though. So we stood there for maybe 2 minutes and then walked right on a boat!Shortest. Line. Ever.

The automated voice was good, but hard to hear during the first part of the ride where there’s a thunderstorm. The rest of the tour, it was very easy to hear… unlike some tour guides I went through there with in the past. Me likes.

See his cute, little "Earning My Ears" tag???

As we’re nearing the end of the boat ride, I’m thinking. We still have at least ½ an hour before the FP is good, so I’m devising a plan. Got it! I lean over to Rhonda, but before I can speak, the woman behind me tells MY plan to HER husband! "Head over to the Seas, do the clam mobiles, and maybe catch Turtle Talk before coming back for Soarin’." I crack up and turn around to tell the woman we’d be joining her. :lmao:

She didn’t see the humor in it… :confused3 and, now that I think of it, maybe this wasn’t an accident, but we never saw her again – even though we had the exact same plan to hit the exact same attractions in the exact same order and had the same Fast Pass return time!

I think she was trying to cut me out!

CHAPTER 11: BAMM! Right into a Pole! – STILL SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2007

So that plan was what we did – up the stairs (escalator broken) and over to the Seas pavilion – had to stop and take some pictures of the plants first. The flowers were gorgeous – Rhonda took a great far shot and I did a close-up of a couple of the yellow and purple ones. Rhonda’s putting them on the same page in her scrapbook.

349%3C683%3B3%7Ffp65%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A8%3B%3A4%3A89ot1lsi

In front of the Seas, Rhonda’s cracking up over the seagulls – "Mine, mine, mine" and asks if that is where nebo got part of his title… and we take some pictures of the landscaping right there. These little cacti look like palm trees! So cool!

349%3C683%3B3%7Ffp66%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7637452ot1lsi

349%3C683%3B3%7Ffp69%3Dot%3E2323%3D899%3D%3C43%3D3232899%3B5295%3Bnu0mrj

There aren’t too many people entering the pavilion – great , maybe we can take our time and check out the queue! We still catch up to the people ahead of us – it’s a family with a woman on an ECV. Normally, not something to write home (or abroad) about… but… she’s driving really slowly on the straight parts of the queue and whipping around the corners!

We don’t understand the slow parts, but man! Watch her turn! Until (did you not see this coming?) BAMM! Right into a pole. Very entertaining.

And distracting – didn’t really look at the queue so much with the Great ECV Show going on in front of us!

Now, normally, :rotfl2: I wouldn’t laugh at someone having trouble driving an ECV – unless it’s my sister, Mia, who repeatedly crashed into the same garbage can in Disney because she was totally unable to turn the handle! – except that this lady made... I don’t know, like… 100 turns at top speed without a single problem – then BAMM!!! Right into a pole!:confused3

The queue was pretty cool – the way it started as a beach, then the further you walked, the further under the sea you went. LOVED the rusty railings and the bottom of the butt! I mean, boat, on the ceiling.

We climbed into our clam mobiles and we were off – chasing Nemo… The technology in this ride is awesome. The dialog is funny. It was just really, really cute. I liked it a lot. Afterwards, I told Rhonda that Brooke is just going to love that in September!

At the exit, if you want Turtle Talk, you head left – they confused us because, even though I knew it had been moved to a bigger theater, I didn’t know where that theater was!

I really love this show. I laugh my head off every time! Especially when the whale shows up (I haven’t done this show enough times to know if the whale comes every time – I think he’s been there 2 of the 3 times I’ve seen it). Anyway, when the whale comes, we all have to speak whale. (Whale? I speak whale!)

AS AN ASIDE: On The Bachelor this week, the dates took place in Hawaii – the bachelor (Andy) and his date were on a boat and they saw dolphins and whales. I would probably NOT gotten a rose that night had it been me, because there is no way on God’s green earth that, when Andy said, "Look! A whale!" that I would not have yelled,
"Heeeeeeeellllllllllooooooooooooooo, wwwhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" in my best whale-speak.

Gotta be true to myself. And I speak whale! AND WE’RE BACK:

349%3C683%3B3%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7636785ot1lsi

Guess what? It’s time for Soarin’… :) Ruth is not thrilled. She thinks she will fall out, even though sahe rode this on our last trip. :confused3

Sandy tries logic: Sit all the way back in your seat.

Rhonda tries placating: Use the little strap between your legs when you put your seatbelt on so you can't fall out.

Jaime tries sarcasm: Yeah, this ride is just a Disney death trap! :rolleyes1

Ruth just closes her eyes through the whole ride.

349%3C683%3B3%7Ffp64%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7637459ot1lsi

Rhonda wants to grab fast passes for Soarin’ for later – I say, "What about Test Track?" because we don’t know what the crowds are like in the rest of the park – we’ve only done 2 pavilions.

Oh, yeah.

And we head out of the Land over to Test Track.

That is SO FUNNY!! If you didn't get picked after that, he wouldn't be worth having anyway!!

As my darling daughter would say, DAG NAB IT!! I got so far behind in my trip report reading that I feel obligated to explain. :lmao: First I was in NM visiting said dd, then I apparently caught the plague in the airport and was in the hospital (well, not REALLY the plague but I really wished whatever I had caught was fatal for awhile!), and then stupid work to catch up on and meetings to attend. I'm finally back and I've LOVED so many things I've read but the one I truly want to emphasize is this:

JAIME: This is pre-historic! You’re not supposed to be able to see. Dinosaurs did not have light bulbs!

:lmao: Duh, Rhonda, dinosaurs didn't even have FIRE so they didn't have a torch like Indiana Jones did!

This trip, I discover the joy of riding this with my ears plugged.

:rotfl2: DH laughs at me because every pic of me from this ride shows me with my fingers in my ears. I love this ride but it is too freaking loud!

Thanks so much, Jaime, for a great trip report. I can't wait to read more--and maybe even comment as I read along. :thumbsup2

Jaime:

I am loving it! Just caught up after a week of 5 year olds who only have 14 more days of school! Add in one trip to the strawberry farm after a night of thunderstorms and you have my week!

BUT... how are the piggies doing? I haven't read too much about them yet, so I thinking they held up.

Check out the ticker... we're getting closer :)

CHAPTER 12: Jack is Frightened! – STILL SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2007

We walk over near Test Track – Ruth begins to hem and haw. And she isn’t sure she wants to go on Test Track. She owns a convertible, by the way.:confused3

We see something new – a sign with the wait times on it.
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp6%3C%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A76367%3A%3Aot1lsi

Rhonda announces she’s going to try the non-spinny version of Mission: Space since there’s such a tiny wait. OK, give me your ticket and we’ll go get Fast Passes and meet you back here at this bench! :)

Rhonda heads for M:S and we head to the FP machines (you probably could have figured that part out on your own, huh? :rolleyes1 ) But, we pass an ice cream stand and I say, "Wouldn’t it be funny when Rhonda comes out of M:S for us all to be sitting on the bench eating Mickey Bars?"
Sandy agrees.

We get the Fast Passes and I decide it’s too mean to get Rhonda’s favorite treat without her – plus, I’m not sure how long she’ll be, and it wouldn’t have been funny if we finished before she came out! :upsidedow

I took the time we sat on the bench to ice my foot – I had bought a little gizmo called a U B Cool. It runs on batteries and gets down to 40 degrees when you switch it to "cool". It also heats up when you turn it to "hot". It’s supposed to be used to cool yourself down in hot weather – and it did work, I just kept forgetting I had it on me and was really, really hot all week!
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp67%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7637467ot1lsi

I also had a purple Ace bandage on this day! Looked like a little cast to me.

Rhonda came back – loved the non-spinny M:S – and I told her about my Mickey Bar idea. So we got them. She insisted I get a picture of her first bite.
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7636835ot1lsi

Ruth got an apple with caramel sauce – so I suppose it was a good thing I decided against my idea. Not as funny with only 2 of the 3 of us eating the Mickey bars.:sad2:

It’s not time for the fast passes yet, so we head to the World Showcase. A few pictures of the floating flowers in the water – where I point out that it looks like they are floating on car tires – and we stop in the old Odyssey building, which is where they have the Flower & Garden Headquarters this year. Including the shop – which was over I one of the Innoventions buildings last year.
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp68%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7637477ot1lsi

349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp6%3A%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7639258ot1lsi

Last year, Rhonda bought the cutest little coffee cup – it was a flowerpot with EPCOT spelled in gardening tools and bugs. I was really watching the cash last year and regret not getting one for my self anyway. They had the same flowerpot mugs this year, but I hated the new design on them, so I didn’t get it. Still regret last year’s non-purchase, I’m ok with passing up this year’s. There’s always next year!

And if I didn’t have Jack, we could have bought this guy to be our mascot – Flower Power Mickey!
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp6%3C%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A763%3A86%3Bot1lsi

See the weird flower design on his shirt? That's what was on the new mugs...

We continue our stroll over to Mexico, take a couple pictures, and then head inside to help the rooster and the parrot find the duck in the Gran Fiesta Tour. I was really interested to see what had been done to this ride – the old El Rio de Tiempo – and I had a couple of mixed emotions. Nothing major – don’t need therapy because they changed this one!
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7637496ot1lsi

I miss the song – Welcome, mis amigos – it was a catchy little tune. I listened hard to see if it was still there somewhere, but it’s totally gone. Rhonda missed the half-naked Aztec men. The skeletons survived the refurbishment (that’s a funny sentence!).

Overall, it was a cute change. We only did it this once.

What was weird about this time was that it was really early still, World Showcase had just opened, so the Mexican marketplace was almost empty – it was really strange to not have to deal with crowds of people in there. Yet there was still a line for the ride! I had to take a picture – I’ve never seen a line for that ride – ever!!!
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp65%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A76392%3A5ot1lsi

On to Nor-vay. The Maelstrom is a must – not just because we like it – but because tomorrow it is going down for refurbishment. I want to ride it twice today. That is not a request.

I love this ride – I know not everyone does. Jack is really scared of the trolls.
349%3C76%3B%3A2%7Ffp6%3A%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A76374%3A7ot1lsi

At the end, the movie is playing, because the doors are closed and there are about 30-40 people waiting for the doors to open. All the benches are taken – crud. I get out of the boat – and I’m not making anyone else in this trip report look good, so I won’t start with me – and I start to limp. I thought that maybe someone might give up his or her seat for the girl with the purple bandage on her ankle that was limping. Yeah, not so much.

Oh, well, doors open within a minute or so, and I head to the store! We… we head to the store. :rolleyes1

I'm also not one for laughing at anyone who needs assitance moving, but...Bam! I would have peed my panties laughing! She deserved it, for flying around the corners.

I want a Micky Bar! Not good to look at WDW snacks when it is evening munchie time...

Those flowers are beautiful! I had forgotten just how lovely they are.

Where did you find that neat little cooler/heater contraption?

I think what Mickey really needs is a miniature pint of Ben and Jerry's in his other hand! :rotfl2:

Great updates, Jaime! :thumbsup2

Hi! I am enjoying your report and all the great pictures, too. :wave2:

Kay - :welcome:

I'm thrilled you joined me - I am a huge fan of your writing style and actually thought of you and your report often during our trip - you will play prominently later on, but I don't want to give anything away... I think you'll like it though! :cutie:

I think what Mickey really needs is a miniature pint of Ben and Jerry's in his other hand! :rotfl2:

Brenda -

Don't we all?

Where did you find that neat little cooler/heater contraption?

princessjv -

I ordered it online through a company called LTD Commodities - they're called other things in different states... but it was a limited order product with them. It's name is U B Cool, so maybe someone can find it being sold online - I tried and couldn't.

I went to an apple orchard to pick apples during the rain with 26 10 year olds once! And stupidly wore canvas Keds! Does that tell you how long ago that was? Pre-Crocs!!!

As my darling daughter would say, DAG NAB IT!! Finally - someone who sides with me, not Rhonda! :cool1:

Sorry to hear you were so sick - sounds horrible!!!

Oh, to have a DD who only said, "dag nab it!" :rotfl2:

That is SO FUNNY!! If you didn't get picked after that, he wouldn't be worth having anyway!!

pittypat -

His loss!

Oh MAN, I was hoping we'd be there around the same time. My bday is Sept. 1st and Caylin's is the 30th so we're celebrating this year with 10 days of FREE FOOD from Disney, isn't it nice of them to do that for us for our Bdays...;) Brandon said he wanted a cool birthday filled with yummy food next year, since we're getting 10 days in WDW. Soooooo, me wanting to be faair and all, since you can't let a grown man CRY. Well you can, but that's a whole 'nother board and story involving a tea kettle and an ex husband :rolleyes1 . So, like I said being fair and all..... I'm taking him to Hawaii for his bday in April.

So, yes, between my REAL life, ( which btw totally sucked for a bit) and planning another trip to Disney in September, Caylin's SURPRISE you're going to PARIS this summer, and Brandon's okay Honey, to be fair I guess we'll go to Waikiki bday trip..... my REAL life has been super busy. But I am hoping to be back and writing strong by next week.

Barndi -

Are you ever home??? :lmao:

CHAPTER 13: Jack Needs Something to Calm His Nerves! – STILL SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2007

Last September, I discovered Laila perfume and the creator of the perfume, Geir Ness. DD16, Meghan, and I fell in love with the scent. We bought a purse set – which contained a bag, a big bottle of Laila, a lip-gloss, a hand cream, and a small bottle of Laila. Meg got the lip-gloss and big bottle, I got the purse, little bottle, and hand cream.

This perfume is also sold at Nordstrom’s. So in December, I went to the local Nordstrom’s and bought a different bag set (Merry Christmas to me!) – this one had a big bottle of Laila, 2 lip-glosses, a hand cream, and the bag. Meg took the lip-glosses and the hand cream, I got the bag and the big bottle of perfume.

When DD18, Steph, came home for Christmas, she really liked the scent Meg and I were wearing, so I gave her the small bottle. In her birthday wish list (her birthday’s in May), she asked for more Laila stuff. So I was heading to Nor-vay to get that… but they didn’t have any of the bags – that’s the best deal… you get the bottle of perfume and a bunch of extra stuff for only $20 more that just the bottle of perfume would cost!

So I didn’t get the girls anything there, like I had planned. I’ll go to Nordstrom’s.

We start to leave Nor-vay, because you always think, "Oh, I’ll definitely be back!", and luckily, I stopped and said, "Let’s ride it again right now… in case we don’t get back this way today.", because we never did get back this way today and when we pass here tomorrow… oh, I can’t tell you that part yet. You have to wait until tomorrow!

After the 2nd ride, we head to China. I have something I want to do here, too! It’s a new booth called "The Joy of Tea".

Well, it’s not the booth I want, so much as the wares. Specifically, plum wine. I believe it was Brenda’s October trip that mentioned this little treat…

I think she had the plum wine slush? I don’t remember what it was called, but it was served in a bigger cup and had ice or crushed ice… but the plain "plum wine" is served in a little cup with no ice. (there’s also a green tea plum wine slush). I debated, because it was so hot, to get the slush, but I’m not a fan of green tea, so I was iffy. Next time. And I adore ginger ice cream, so that’s for next time, too!

ASIDE: Actually, this isn’t giving anything away, because nothing’s been decided yet, but Rhonda and I talked about; well, first we both said we wanted to take solo trips next year; then I said if we took them at the same time, we could share a room to cut costs; then Rhonda thought about it and said if it was just the 2 of us, that would be ok; then she said NO dining plan; then we let it drop. Later on, she said she wished we could (in general, not the 2 of us) be here for 2 weeks so she could eat everything she wanted… Last night I thought about asking her if maybe we could do a 2-week trip together instead of two 1-week trips… Must do some pricing… hmmm… :surfweb:

Like I said, nothing’s been decided yet… she wants to take Brooke and Lauren together one time, but Kerri won’t take Lauren out of school and I refuse to go during spring break or summer vacation, so they can all have fun on that trip! END OF ASIDE

I offered tastes of the plum wine all around – only Rhonda tried it. It was really good – and strong. Jack tried to gulp it all down after his scare with the trolls!

Great report,I'll have to check out that stand in China. I don't think I ever noticed it.

I cannot wait to try this stand in China next week! :thumbsup2

And it was the Green Tea Plum Wine Cooler we tried at the F&W booth - a huge fabulous drinkie-poo! I think the slushie version sounds divine, so that may be what we end up trying.

I'll be sure to let you know! ;)

Still lovin' your updates! :goodvibes

CHAPTER 14: Donald Trump was on What??? - STILL SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2007

I have only eaten in the German pavilion once – back in 1989. I hated every moment of it. You see, Mom is from Germany. Literally. Her parents brought her over when she was 1 year old. She tells the story of learning to walk on the boat. So Mom loves German music and made German food and…. Yuck! Now, this is not Mom’s fault – the rest of my sisters and my brother all love the German food. It’s just me. Sauerkraut… dumplings… eww… eww… eww!!! And maybe he’s not German, I really don’t know, but please don’t get me started on Lawrence Welk!!! :sad1:

I will, however, eat bratwurst (plain). :confused3 And, seeing as we’re going a counter service in EPCOT for lunch today, Rhonda and I came up with these possibilities, as Ruth tends to be a tad picky: America, Germany, England.

Then I saw the dessert menus… well, England is out (shortbread). America is ok, but boring (apple cobbler, rice crispy treat, no-sugar brownie). Germany won hands down (apple strudel and black forest cake). And they had hot dogs for Ruth.

They also had Goldschlager, but I was still drinking the plum wine and saying, quite loudly, “Is it hot in here???” even though we were sitting in the doorway of the open-air seating area. :rotfl2:

Well, I thought I was funny! :happytv:

And sorry, but there are no pictures of the food – totally forgot! (Seriously, try the plum wine!)

The apple strudel was good, but you really needed a knife to cut it and there were only forks and spoons available. So I did what any reasonable, tipsy person in EPCOT would do – I speared it with my fork and ate it like a corn dog! (Classy with a K, remember?) :thumbsup2

Ruth collects teddy bears and as we got to lunch, I pointed out the teddy bear shop for her. That was the plan next. I believe she bought a tote bag and had it shipped back to the room, but cannot swear to that as I was in another part of the shop goofing off with Rhonda.

One of my favorite things in life is Disney Store shopping with Rhonda. We have a blast – whether it’s here at home in a mall or actually in Disney. Remember I said our mother was from Germany? Well, we came across cowbells on German-patterned weave cloth. It had a ring at one end to hang it, then about 5” of cloth (1½” wide), then the cowbell.

We joked about bringing it home for mom because it was German… then Rhonda thought I it would be funny to really do it because Mom lives with Mia. Mia is having cable installed in Mom’s room (to get Mom out of Mia’s living room… well, I won’t comment), but this way Mom could ring the bell for Mia and Mia could come see what Mom wants.

If you knew my Mom, you’d know this is right up her alley. She’d love to do that (but wouldn’t.) She’s got a great sense of humor. And until a few months ago, I’d have told you the old broad (she’s 84) was as sharp as a tack. Until:

ASIDE: I was at work listening to how the other 2 women’s mothers were starting to lose things, forget things, basically their minds were just not all there anymore. And I’m talking about how my mother’s body is failing her, but her mind’s still sharp as a tack! Sense of humor, knows what’s going on around her, etc.

I talk to my mom later that day, and tell her this very thing. The very next thing out of her mouth was, “I was watching a rerun of Little House on the Prairie today, and I’ve seen this episode a lot, and I made sure to look very closely, so now I’m sure – the farmer they showed at the end is Donald Trump. He looks a little older, but it’s him. I’m sure.”

Ouch. First off, how does Donald Trump look OLDER on a show that was taped 30 years ago? Secondly, if DT did an episode of LhotP, wouldn’t that have been brought up in celebrity news in the last 30 years? Third, see? Not so sharp as a tack anymore. END OF ASIDE

Jamie (and friends!) I am loving this trip report. It sounds like you all had a wonderful trip. I totally get a hoot out of TR as I live in Orlando, and never have and never will really plan a trip to WDW (which of course will be the case when you move to FL as well!) It is fun to hear about all of the rituals that folks have and the things that go one "behind the scenes!".

Post #202 - aren't the cacti that look like palm trees great. I took a photo so I can take it to Lowe's or a garden center to see if I can get them for my year!

Post #206 - I love the new wait time board - makes more sense to have them mid-park then at the front of the park!

Post #211 - I love Laila too and don't get me started on Plum wine. I was at EPCOT for and all by myself day two weeks ago, and walking through a very quiet WS, the Japense kiosk with beverages and sushi. It was time for lunch, so I got sushi and splurged on a glass of Plum wine - it was very nice with my spicy tuna roll with wasabi!

I can't wait for the rest of your report, and NOW I think I will head to WS and have some plum wine!

:cool1:

I am envious of how fast you pump your TR out. Envious.

That plum wine sounds...YUMMO! I love me some wine.:drinking1

Jaime, thank you so much for your highly entertaining trip report!!

I stumbled upon another one of your reports a few months ago and as soon as I found out you were doing another one I had to join it.
Reading it really is so much fun. And you give me so many new things to try, like the plum wine or the ginger ice-cream. And I'm sure gonna check out that Laila perfume of yours, LOL.
Don't blame you for not liking the German food - we are Austrian and should like our neighbouring country's food, but we don't like the food one little bit.

You are doing such great work - can't wait for the next chapter!!

Karin

We were there at the same time & it's great to see your pix...I love going during the flower power festival...We had our 8 yr old nephew with us so we didn't get a chance to go to any of the concerts but the flowers were spectacular as always.
