We don't have one at home. When we've stayed in a villa with one, I've used dishwasher power to clean it before using it. What I want to know is if there are any products that are safe to use, to make bubbles, or to make the water soft, not necessarily fragrant.

I would like to buy something to bring with me, or I could purchase on site. I just don't know what type of product to look for.

Bobbi :)

you can use a bubble bath just use a tiny amount - a half of teaspoon instead of a tablespoon....

you use the normal amount and the bubbles are everywhere.....

Basin at DTD has a bunch of non-foaming fragranced bath products that are great for the jacuzzi. And you can get a DVC discount there, too ! ;)

Be VERY careful with anything like this. Ours at home can get clogged with bubbles, and it's not that good for the motors etc. I usually put a VERY SMALL amound of body wash into the water before turning on th jets, and it makes a nice mild bubble bath that doesn't overflow! Afterwards, you might want to run a tub full of plain water before you leave your villa. I always do that as a courtesy to the next visitors. I figure they don't need my dead skin cells in their bath! I usually run a cleaning tub full with a small amount of auto dishwasher powder followed by a tub of clear when I arrive too, just in case the mousekeeping didn't do it.

Yes, this is what I'm not sure of. How safe to the equipment are the add-ins. They don't come with instructions. I'm getting the "tiny bit." Are the non-foaming bath products from Basins "one use" tabs, and are they too much for the system?

Bobbi :)

I use the Basin bath bombs at home in our jacuzzi. They don't make bubbles, at least not the ones that I have gotten, maybe there are some that do. They are more "fizzy". They just make the water smell nice and softens the water and your skin. They do come in different sizes, I have only bought the large ones. Take a look at their website, maybe that will give you a better idea of what they are.

I don't think the bath bombs would in any way harm the jacuzzi motors.

I don't ever use any other Jacuzzi's other than the one I have at home. UGH! :scared:

In fact, in the DVC's I would rather like to see a larger shower, with seat, than the "germie" tub.

Mine throughly flushes out the pipes with steamed H2O after the tub empties..so that there is no residual H2O (bacteria, dead cells) left in the system.

Unless the product used says..safe for jacuzzi's..I wouldn't use it...ie..body wash. Calgon has good products and Basin's is where I would go. They will tell you if its OK and I would probably flush the pipes out, good, maybe with Clorox (if it can be used) before using!! ;)

Ewwww! I had not a clue about the use of jacuzzis! We obviously don't have one, but since I'll be 6 months and 7 1/2 months pregnant on our next two visits, I was looking forward to sitting in a nice relaxing bath!

Okay, walk me through this....I should fill the tub, run the jets, drain the tub, and maybe even do it again. This should clear out anyone else's dead skin cells, or whatever else may have been left behind....EWWWWW! I will most definately use some clorox in the water too. I don't know if this is good for the motors, etc, but something needs to flush through the pipes.

Thanks for the heads-up! I had no idea!

Rather than Chlorox, use auto dishwasher soap. That is what the Jacuzzi maker suggests for cleaning unless you use the special Jacuzzi brand cleaner. Just be sure you run a clear rinse tub full through the jets AFTER you have run the cleaning one. We usually clean out our jets every month, but I am the only one using the tub at home, so I don't worry about it as much as I do in a public place.

Be careful with Jacuzzis. We have one at home. I cleaned it per instructions religiously. I used it for about year and LOVED it, but I'd begun having sporadic UTIs (urinary tract infections), which I hadn't had before. After about a year, I developed a severe kidney infection and on to septicemia that almost killed me. After I recovered, I was told by my physician husband NOT to use the Jacuzzi, or any bath tub, ever again. I've never used it as a "bath" again, and in almost ten years, I've never had another UTI. I don't use the Jacuzzi at DVC, either.

We now use our Jacuzzi for the shower in it. It's a huge corner unit enclosed with glass, and it's wonderfully roomy as a shower. It's also great for washing dogs.

What happened to me may not be a common occurrence, but it's something to keep in mind. Especially if you're prone to UTIs.

Oh NO!!! I'm planning on renting and was really looking forward to the Jacuzzi..shoot. I'm really prone to UTIs what if you clean it really well and don't use any soap or bubble bath when you're using it?

I always cleaned ours very well (more often even than recommended) - both the piping system and the tub part - and I never used anything but plain water in it (except when cleaning). Also, I only used it about once a week, and occassionally twice a week. It wasn't like I used it every day.

I know other folks happily use them with no problem, but I just wouldn't ever risk it again.

I've had a severe UTI that developed into a kidney infection before and it was no picnic :sad2: Luckily they caught it before I had to head to the ER. I use my DF's garden tub every couple of weeks with no soap and haven't had any problems yet but it may be because I am constantly taking cranberry supplements and low dose antibiotics. I would really hate not to use the jacuzzi on our honeymoon. I'll have to ask my doctor and see if its okay. Thanks for the info, I never even thought of that!

Cranberry supplements are good for UTIs, and if you have been bathing in plain water without problems, I wouldn't expect it to start with a couple of uses. If you are prone to them, and you are currently using a tub, I wouldn't think it would be any different. BTW, the person who was pregnant and wanting to use the Jacuzzi....I would NOT do that.

Uh-oh

Pregnancy + Hot forceful water = bad news

Don't do it. If you have to take a bath no soapy water, no jets, and under 101 degrees. Kinda takes the whole point out of a bath for me. I have to have hot water. BTW congrats on your pregnancy!

My kids love the jacuzzi or the big tubby as they call it. we do use the DVC tubs after I clean them. I use about 4 packets of the dish soap that they leave under the sink. and add a cup of bleach I run it through for about 15 minutes with the bedroom door open while I am putting away my groceries. While the bleach may be over kill it makes me feel better.

I will admit though I also put all the blankets and sheets in the hot water wash as soon as I get there as well.

Last time I was at BWV someone had spilled chocolate.... oh god I hope it was chocoalte, on the toss pillows for the sofa. Those were washed as well and came out beautifully. And at least I KNEW they were clean.

Well considering it was under the recommendation of my doctor to relieve the severe back pain I suffer while pregnant, I think I'll be just fine. The whole point of using the jacuzzi was because I can't go in the hot tubs (spas). With the jacuzzi I can control the temp of the water. As for no soap, well, that's not an issue for me, never had a UTI in my life including through three pregnancies. I take a hot, soapy bath every single night at home. It is the only way I can even get out of bed the next morning.

This thread has gotten a bit clinical!! Aren't there any romantics out there? My wife and i love to get the candles and champagne out fill the tub and add a tiny bit of bath gel and enjoy wonderful kidless time together. We tell our daughters that if anyone even knocks on the door, they're all toast. Happily, we assume the tub is clean and focus on each other.

JDVM,
You are a person after my own heart! I can't wait to spend some romantic time with DH in the jacuzzi! The idea of arriving in Florida armed with bleach and a big box of detergent to clean everything in sight, just does NOT spell romance to me. While I would throw dirty pillows into the wash, I can't understand cleaning a room that has just been cleaned, under normal circumstances. Maybe having young kids in my villa would kill the amorous mood, but I pack candles, matches, and wine, NEVER bleach and cleaning supplies.

For mine at home I have used a little baby oil to make my skin smooth.
But today after shoveling tons of snow, maybe 21 inches, I was so sore and needed a long bubble bath and put shower gel in the jucuzzi. It seemed to make for a relaxing bath and the clean up wasnt the disaster I thought it might be. Hopefully long term I won't see any clogs from it. I haven't ever used anything like that in it before.
