Jacuzzi Use

go ahead and use a bit of dishwasher soap. It contains bleach and will ease your mind about other's left-behind germs!

That's what the instructions for our jacuzzi say to do.
Run hot water to about 6 inches above the jets. Add dishwasher soap ( I think it says to use 1/4 cup). Run the jets for 10 minutes. Drain the tub, then fill it with cold water, run the jets for a few minutes and drain.

For the "good smelling stuff", look on the package. The ones that are safe in jacuzzis will say something to that effect.

This thread has gotten a bit clinical!! Aren't there any romantics out there? My wife and i love to get the candles and champagne out fill the tub and add a tiny bit of bath gel and enjoy wonderful kidless time together. We tell our daughters that if anyone even knocks on the door, they're all toast. Happily, we assume the tub is clean and focus on each other.

Can't wait for June and our OKW 1 bedroom! I'm psyched!!

Bobbi

I flush out the jacuzzi pipes too at DVC with auto detergent and then clean water. I usually only do it for longer trips. For short trips, we just use it as a big tub w/o the jets.

It takes FOREVER to fill up the tub - especially the giant one at OKW!!! So it takes 3 FULL tubs of water to take the first jacuzzi bath! Only worth it for more than one jacuzzi bath per trip for me.

Although my girls love the jets, they never request it if the jets haven't been flushed. They always ask me a couple of times if I cleaned the tub jets - when I answer yes, they then ask me "did you do it twice?" Lol! :rolleyes1

I always feel a little guilty about using all that water! But no way will I or my family sit in someone else's dead skin.

I'm sure housekeeping will try to flush the jets if they know it has been used - just like they change out the bedsheets on the sofabed. But you'd be surprised how many people never even use the jacuzzi or the sofabed. And it only takes ONE time when the housekeeper ASSUMES that something hasn't been used and so doesn't do the heavy duty cleaning.

BTW, I have opened the sofabed before and found used linens still on the bed (don't think it was at DVC). I always prefer to have the sofabed unmade and make it myself with linens in the closet. That way, I know it's clean. I also either strip the sofabed or leave it open on check out day so that housekeeping knows that it was used.

LOL, and that's what I posted way back on the first response to this thread! I just wish DH would enjoy the Jacuzzi with me! He HATES sitting in a tub, and wont even get anywhere near the Jacuzzi or a hot tub!

As a man I can tell you that champagne, candles and a locked door will get any man in a jacuzzi

LOL! You don't know MY DH! He HATES sitting in water!

Whew! Is it just me or is getting a little warm in here? BTW I'm definitely going to have to try this with my DF on our honeymoon. Maybe that will coax him into getting in hot water (I guess he's like Diane's husband) I just don't get it :confused3

Diane, Sounds like I need to have a chat with this guy!?!
LOL! It wont work! He is a sweety and walks down to the hot tub with me, but I can't even talk him into dangling his feet in! :rotfl:

Well, at least I'm not in that shape. I'm sure I could at least get my future hubby to be to put his feet in! :rotfl2:

Obviously I do not pack bleach in my bags But I do get it at my grocery stop.

I think having young children who will be down on the floor or scuba diving in the Big tub makes a differance in how I clean the room and yes That is the first thing I do when I arrive. When I travel alone and I can't remember the last time that was? I do not clean everything in sight. But I certainly do when I have small kids with me. It allows me to realx without saying every 2 seconds don't touch that!
And I bet the person who had my 1 bedroom in December thought the room was wonderfully clean!

The problem is now they are all neurotic as they are so used to the room being gone over buy me they will do it as adults for themselves I am sure.

Does it take care of their right-behind germs too! :rotfl2:
Sorry couldn't resist.

Whoa!

Guess I'm old enough to not have developed all these, er, 'concerns'. We just fire up the jacuzzi and have a good time. Of course, our son rolled in dirt, put disgusting things in his mouth and washed up with soap and water - and he's now a happy 25YO, so it is possible to survive without bleach, disinfectant and Sani-Gel! :lmao: :confused3 :lmao:

Be careful with Jacuzzis. We have one at home. I cleaned it per instructions religiously. I used it for about year and LOVED it, but I'd begun having sporadic UTIs (urinary tract infections), which I hadn't had before. After about a year, I developed a severe kidney infection and on to septicemia that almost killed me. After I recovered, I was told by my physician husband NOT to use the Jacuzzi, or any bath tub, ever again. I've never used it as a "bath" again, and in almost ten years, I've never had another UTI. I don't use the Jacuzzi at DVC, either.

We now use our Jacuzzi for the shower in it. It's a huge corner unit enclosed with glass, and it's wonderfully roomy as a shower. It's also great for washing dogs.

What happened to me may not be a common occurrence, but it's something to keep in mind. Especially if you're prone to UTIs.

Odd, my wife got an infection and took only showers. The Gyno (?) told her to take more baths. Said he saw this all the time. ????????
