Last vacation at OKW I was soaking in our tub with the jets on. I look down and notice this nasty ball of dark-colored hair floating in the tub with me. I know it doesn't belong to my family since we all have blonde hair. It had apparently came out of the jets. YUCK!!YUCK!! I ran a tub full of water and turned on the jets to clear them out before we used it, but apparently it didn't clean them. Needless to say we didn't use the tub afterwards. Is there a way to clean/sanitize the tub jets, to assure this won't happen again? I was thinking maybe using bleach in the water, or can you purchase a cleaner?. What do you use? Thanks

Bleach with some dishwasher detergent, the kind that actually goes in the dishwasher, not the sink kind.

Always clean the jets on any tub before using it. The housekeepers just clean the inside of the tub.

1. Fill the tub with enough hot water to cover the jets by about three inches.

2. Add one-half cup of household bleach and two teaspoons of low-foaming dishwater detergent, such as Cascade or Calgonite. Avoid foaming detergents since the tub's whirling action will fill your bathroom with bubbles.

3. Run the whirlpool for ten to fifteen minutes. When starting the whirlpool, be careful not to let any bleach splash on your clothes, towels, or in your eyes.

4. Drain the tub and refill the tub again with cold water.

5. Run the tub's jets for another ten to fifteen minutes and then drain.

They are huge breeding ground for germs, I wish they would just go to soaker tubs. They are so much grosser than the bedspreads.

We just use the dishwasher detergent. I read somewhere that bleach can be hard on the seals in the water pump.

The bleach treatment kills germs quite effectively. But I'd do several partial fill-and-drains afterwards to get it all out of the system.

I pretty much do the same thing but I run the jets for about 10 minutes then turn them off for about 5 then run for 5 more. Drain rinse and repeat if stuff still comming out of jets. You can also call housekeeping if a lot of stuff come out and the have a special cleaner then run through, but the smell is really strong.

It is also one of the first things we do when walking into the room so it will be ready when needed.

I always get a small bleach with my grocery order and fill the tub and run the jets as pp's have suggested. I'll have to remember about the dishwasher detergent. I am not really a germophob but we always do that and I bring chlorox wipes and we do phones ,doorknobs, remotes, faucets and the like. I also like to run dishes through the dishwasher.

Talk about clueless. I am so glad I read this, though I am completely grossed out right now. I was so looking forward to the tub. I am not sure how to get bleach down there for our next trip. It is just 3 nights so I was not planning on getting anything delivered and I have a feeling that won't make it through airline security.

The dish washer detergent alone works great. It's actually pretty strong. I use what they provide in the room for cleaning the tub and bring the pods for my dishes in my luggage.

Our Walmart carries bleach tablets. I have not personally used them.

There is also Jacuzzi tub cleaners that are actually better than using bleach and detergent.
