Jaclyn & Chris' Engagement Trip Dining Review ~ 01/12 Riverside Mill

Chris really enjoyed the strawberry shortcake; however, the strawberry shortcake did not love him back. He discovered this trip that he is most likely lactose intolerant. Chris does not have the love of ice cream that I do so he did not feel the need to power through, like I did, so you will not see him ordering any ice cream for the rest of this trip.

:lmao: Unrequited love is such a hard thing to deal with!

Loving the reviews
We have an ADR at Tokyo Dining as we are both Sushi lovers and haven't eat their before. We have a ADR for 8.10pm so we are hoping to catch Illuminations from their. Do you think we will be able to see them if we dont bag a window seat :confused3

There are two sections at Tokyo Dining. One section has a view of world showcase lagoon. I think you would have a decent view even if you were one table removed from the window. The other section is by the sushi bar and depending on where your table is you wouldn't be able so see Illuminations at all.

Here's a link to a blog at Allears.net. They have some interior pics of Tokyo Dining so you can get a better idea.

I really love the pizza at WPE, but I had trouble eating it with a knife and fork, too. (I had gotten the four cheese pesto) However, we ate around 2:00 pm during free dining, but it wasn't really crowded. I think their pizzas are just difficult to eat!
Not a big sushi fan, but the fact that it left you room for some Beaches and Cream is definitely a plus!:woohoo:

Quick question for you....do you recommend ADR's for Tokyo Dining? I would like to go there for lunch, but not be locked into a lunch reservation. Just wondering your thoughts. Thanks!

I had a meatball & parmesan pizza in April of this year and it wasn't difficult to eat. It just might be how they're making them now. Who knows? :confused3 Oh well, the pizza still tastes excellent! :thumbsup2

One must always leave room for ice cream! :lmao:

It really all depends on when you’re going. I'm a person who likes to plan ahead, just in case, so I always book an ADR. If I decide during the trip that I no longer want dine some where I just call WDW Dining or go to guest services to cancel. When we went for lunch we got there just after opening and it wasn’t very busy at all. I did notice that they were taking walk-ups.

We spent the morning at Blizzard Beach and after relaxing at Corondo Springs we headed to the Magic Kingdom.

The Magic Kingdom was closing at 8:00pm tonight so we wanted to do dinner at an in-park restaurant to allow us more time to spend on attractions.

We decided to go to Tony’s Town Square because it was the first restaurant Chris and I dined at during our first trip to Disney World together in May 2005. We really enjoyed it back then so we thought we would try it again.

We checked at 5:45pm and were seated within minutes.

I ordered Spaghetti & Meatballs and a coke to drink.

Spaghetti & Meatballs $16.99

I loved my spaghetti & meatballs. I don’t think you can go wrong with ordering it at Tony's.

Chris ordered the Shrimp Scampi and a sprite.

Shrimp Scampi $18.99
Picture019-3.jpg

Chris enjoyed the shrimp scampi, however, he found it a little bland.

I’m glad we decided to go back to Tony’s again. I’m usually craving pasta by this point in the trip and it filled my craving.

It’s very apparent that the meals are not made-to-order. We received our entrees quite quickly after placing our order and so did the table beside us. However, we still enjoyed our meals. I think Tony’s is great for what it is—an in–park restaurant.

Total with TIW $41.86

Later on that evening I went to Aloha Isle for a Pineapple Dole Whip Float $4.25

Thanks so much for the information, very useful :thumbsup2

Some more great reviews! :thumbsup2 I'm back from my tripped and absolutely LOVED Tokyo Dining. It's going to be a must do on my trips from now on... well whenever I'm not travelling with my mom. She has never caught onto the whole sushi thing :confused3 She doesn't know what's she's missing! I've must convince her to expand her palate.

Tony's Town Square looks yummy too. My only concern is if the pasta is too mushy. Especially when you say it's not made to order. That worries me a bit :scared:

I've started my TR, come read! :goodvibes

Thanks!:)

I'm glad you enjoyed Tokyo Dining. You should try convincing your mom to try the vegetarian sushi. It worked for me. I used to be terrified of sushi. I thought eating raw fish was disgusting. But then Chris convinced me to try the vegetarian sushi first and then slowing I started trying different types. Now I love it! I couldn't imagine not eating it!

I didn't find the pasta mushy but again I like my pasta a little bit softer than al dente.

I'm going to pop on over to your TR! :thumbsup2

We arrived at DHS this morning at 8:45am and we were starving but we knew we had to grab fast passes & ride Toy Story Mania before headed to Starring Rolls Café for breakfast.

Picture035-1.jpg

I had a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake $3.99 and a bottle of water. Chris had a Cinnamon Bun $2.99 and an orange juice.

Picture008-1.jpg

I was initially planning on just getting a plain bagel with cream cheese but when I saw the chocolate peanut butter cupcake I knew I had to try it. I'd seen in other DISers reports and it looked too good to pass up. There’s nothing better than chocolate mixed with peanut butter. Mmmm. It was really good but just too sweet for 9:30 in the morning. In retrospect I wish I had just grabbed the bagel but I’m glad I tried the chocolate peanut butter cupcake. I think it would have been much better as an afternoon snack.

Chris enjoyed his Cinnamon Bun. It seemed like the same ones you can get anywhere on property.

Total $12.48

I just found your review, and am enjoying it! Congratulations on the engagement!

I used to be able to handle that sort of thing in the morning. I grew up on cake, ice cream, and cookies for breakfast. I guess I'm just maturing.

I think you'll enjoy it! It was very moist and tasty. :)

One of these days we have got to get ourselves over to Starring Rolls .. yum!

Part of our problem is that MGM is probably our least favorite park so we get in and get out without much thought of eating there.

Congrats on the engagement - you're a very cute couple! :goodvibes

Ooh I love Starring Rolls! YUM, dole whips!! Cute pics in front of the train station!

You will love an escape wedding!!! Disney does an amazing job!!

Usually when we go to DHS we leave by lunch time so we either go over to Beaches and Cream or EPCOT. I’m just not a huge fan of the food selection at DHS. I usually turn to Chris around 12pm O’clock and say “We got to go, I’m hungry.”

I’ve been to Prime Time 50’s but I’d rather go with a larger group. We went to Sci Fi Diner in April of this year and the food was ok but the service was so bad I’ m just not ready to go back. To sum it up are waiter pretty much ignored us during the entire meal. After he brought us our check he was trying to harder to earn a better tip so asked if he could take a picture of us in the car. I said “That would be great!” and went into my purse to grab my camera. By the time I looked up he was gone. Chris and I broke into a fit of giggles.:rotfl: I couldn’t believe he just walked away. Since that experience I haven’t felt the desire to go back to Sci Fi Diner. I’m sure I will try it again in a couple of years and I’ll definitely being going back when I have kids.

This trip I wanted to spend more time at DHS so I decided make an ADR at Mama Melrose. Chris and I had both never been there before and I had heard a great review of the place on Lou Mongello’s WDW Radio Podcast. I figured if Lou Mongello, who’s an Italian guy from Jersey, enjoyed his meal here it can’t be that bad.

This bread was so nice and warm. You could tell it just came out of the oven.

I ordered the Grilled Pepperoni Flatbread ~ with Sun-dried Tomato Pesto, Pancetta and Asiago Cheese and fresh chives and a coke.

Grilled Pepperoni Flatbread $11.99
Picture046.jpg

This was excellent! I really enjoyed the spice on the pepperoni.

Chris ordered the Grilled Chicken Flatbread ~ with Bell Peppers and sweet Onions and a Sprite.

Grilled Chicken Flatbread $12.99
Picture047.jpg

I found this a little bland but that may be because I was comparing it to my spicy flatbread. Chris actually said he liked my flatbread better. ;)

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed Mama Melrose. I didn’t go in with high expectations. I just thought it would be better than some of the counter service options at DHS. I would definately go again. It was also nice because it gave us more energy to explore DHS.

Total with TIW $30.51
