Jaclyn & Chris' Engagement Trip Dining Review ~ 01/12 Riverside Mill

First my favorite breakfast at Kona and then a proposal at the Poly....what a wonderful way to get engaged!

Are you thinking Disney wedding? ;)

I'm reading and loving your reviews so far. Anxiously awaiting the rest of them!

Congrats on your engagement!!! Awesome story to tell the grandkids one day!! :lovestruc

Congratulations!!!! What a PERFECT story!!!

What an absolutely beautiful proposal story. I'm sitting here with tears running down my cheeks and my husband looking at me as if I am totally nuts. Thanks for sharing this special occasion with us (love the ring!).

Awwww...that is just the sweetest story:love: Your ring is gorgeous! Your man has good taste, so he's definitely a keeper:laughing: Congratulations!!!

Also enjoying your reviews:goodvibes

Thank you. I love my ring. Chris did an excellent job picking it out!

:lmao: How did you not tell me about the rope drop comment? Too cute!

Next time at Kona, tell Chris you can get the normal pancakes on the Big Kahuna with the macadamia nut butter and pineapple on them! OMG its divine, especially because I prefer the little chunks of macadamia in the butter to the whole macadamia nuts in the pancakes :thumbsup2

The waitress actually offered him that option for the pancakes and he turned it down. I don't think he's a big fan of pineapple & macadamia nuts on his pancakes. :scared1:

Congrats on the engagement!! What a wonderful proposal story that you will have to share with your grandchildren someday. The ring is beautiful.
I can't wait to read the rest of the review. I'll have to try the Snake Bite when we eat at the R&C on our next trip.

Thank you!:goodvibes

Are you thinking Disney wedding? ;)

We're actually in the midst of planning a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding. :woohoo: We set a date for October 3rd, 2011. I love Disney in the Fall; beautiful weather, low crowds, Food & Wine Festival & MNSSP! A Disney wedding also guarantees us lots of future anniversary trips during that time of year. :thumbsup2

How unique for a morning proposal! I love it!

Thank you. I never expected a morning proposal, but it was perfect. :cloud9:

Congratulations on your engagement! The poly is a great place for an engagement!

The Poly is now my favorite resort. Now I have to try and convince the DF to stay there on our honeymoon. :lmao:

Thanks!:) I should have my Liberty Tree Tavern review up soon.

Congratulations!!!! What a PERFECT story!!!

Aww, thank you. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who got emotional.

Aloha Isle

I have a confession to make. I have a really hard time going to the Magic Kingdom and not stoping to having a Dole Whip Float from Aloha Isle. Even if I’m not remotely hungry I will stop and have a Dole Whip. The funniest thing is that I hate fruit juice but I love Pineapple Soft Serve with Pineapple Juice. It’s something I never would have tried if it wasn’t for the DIS or my best friend Meg (aka TinkerBelle_325). :thumbsup2

The second love of my life …The Dole Whip Float $4.75 (The really sad thing is that I know this total off by heart.:lmao:)

Liberty Tree Tavern

This is my favorite Table Service restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. Chris and I usually come here for lunch on our first day at Disney World. The lunch menu is excellent and it’s typically not that busy. I have been able to get a table at lunch without an ADR on multiple occasions.

I ordered the Colony Salad and a coke. I'm embarrassed to say that I actually called it a Colon – ny Salad first. I quickly corrected myself after I said it out loud. :rotfl:

Colony Salad $13.49
Picture146.jpg

I was really impressed with the amount of chicken served with this salad. I was disappointed however with how much dressing was on the salad. It was pretty drenched. I would get this again but I would order the dressing on the side.

Chris ordered his favorite meal at LTT, the Angus Chuck Cheeseburger and a sprite.

Angus Chuck Cheeseburger & Tavern Fries $11.99

The hamburger is cooked to order, so you can order it medium well if you're not a fan of well done hamburgers. I think it's the best cheeseburger on property. Beaches & Cream's cheeseburgers would be my second favorite.

For dessert the waitress brought out a small cake to congratulate us on our engagement.

I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed this dessert. The chocolate cake was really moist and the frosting wasn’t too sweet.

Total with TIW $31.02

Well, first and foremost, congratulations on your engagement! :goodvibes What a beautiful story. And too cute that he remembers rope drop in the middle of it! :lmao:

Secondly, I'm loving your reviews! I'm always on a quest for a good cheeseburger so I'm going to have to check out LTT. :thumbsup2 Kona breakfast looks yummy - and what a great day one tradition!

Rose & Crown for Illuminations is just magical, isn't it? What a great story about the little girl, the glow bracelet and the server. You're right - that is the magic of Disney! I'm also filing away your snake bit recommendation for my next visit!

Can't wait for more! popcorn::

That Colony salad looks really good. I was disappointed they took the turkey panini off the menu and nothing appealed to me at LTT on the menu, but seeing that picture changes my mind about going back.

I never got to try the turkey panini. :sad2: LTT Pilgrams' Feast (turkey, stuffing, green beans, and mashed potatoes) is also really good. :thumbsup2

Loved your proposal story!! Awwww....

Congrats!!:flower3:

Congrats on your engagement! I'm loving your report.

Thank you! :goodvibes

Yes, DH loves the Pilgrim's Feast. However, I'm not a "Thanksgiving" meal type person--don't like sweet potatos, dressing and not real fond of "just turkey" so your pics of the salad lifted my hopes to go back to LTT.

After our great morning at the Magic Kingdom we headed back to Corondo Springs Resort to have an afternoon nap and to call our parents and let them know we got engaged.

We then got ready for our dinner at the California Grill. :woohoo:

We took a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then the monorail over the Contemporary. We got there a little early so we thought we go check out Bay Lake Tower.

This is Chris’ “I want it!” picture.

After checking out Bay Lake Tower we browsed the gifts shops. It was then time to check in for our 7:45pm ADR time at California Grill.

Waiting for our buzzer to go off.

We were seated at 7:55pm, 5 minutes before Wishes was scheduled to begin. Initially when I made this ADR Wishes was scheduled for 9pm that night. When I realized it changed to 8pm it was too late for me to change my ADR time. So I was very happy that we were seated before 8pm and we also had a decent view for Wishes. It wasn't a window table but we still had a great view. I didn’t take any pictures of Wishes that night. Chris and I wanted to just sit and enjoy the moment.

Our table was decorated to celebrate our engagement.

Our waiter was very excited to hear that we got engaged today at the Poly and throughout our meal we had a couple servers and the manager come out to congratulate us. :goodvibes

I ordered a glass of Conundrum, based on Megs (Tinkerbelle_325) recommendation. It was amazing! :thumbsup2 I am happy to report that I actually found out yesterday that Conundrum is sold at my local liquor store. :woohoo:

To start I ordered a California Roll.
Picture052.jpg

I was really excited to see Yoshi working tonight! The California Roll was amazing, as always.

Chris ordered the BBQ Chicken Flatbread.
Picture049.jpg

While we were waiting for our entrees Chris made this for me.
Picture050.jpg

We both ordered the Oak-Fired Filet of Beef.
Picture051.jpg

This is my favorite steak at Disney World. It was so tender and I loved the teriyaki served with this. I actually prefer it to the Oaked Grilled Filet Mignon with Mac & Cheese at Jiko. :rolleyes1

For dessert we shared the Valrhona Chocolate Cake with Salted Caramel Ice Cream.
Picture053.jpg

I wished I had asked for a different type of ice cream as I am not a fan of salted caramel.

At the end of meal our waiter came over to the table and said “And dinner is done.” Chris and I both replied “Yes.” The waiter then followed up with “And paid for.” Chris and I were both so confused we thought the California Grill was possibly covering our bill as a way to say congratulations so we both looked at the waiter stunned and said “thank you?” The waiter than said that my father had called and was paying for our engagement dinner. I was in shock! This was totally unexpected and completely out of the ordinary for my parents. I had told them we were eating at the California Grill tonight when I had called to let them know Chris and I had got engaged. After I had hung up with my parents then spent over an hour on the phone trying to get a hold of the California Grill. I was very emotional after I found out they had paid for our engagement dinner. It was just such a sweet thing for them to do. :cloud9:

Up Next: Lunch at Le Cellier

Jaclyn, what a sweet and wonderful thing your parents did for you. This must have made the dinner all the more special that your parents did this from afar. :)

What an absolutely magical trip! Congratulations on your engagement!!! It was so nice of your parents to surprise you guys with taking care of dinner.

Can't wait to read more about your trip!

This got me a little teary eyed. That is so sweet of your parents. Chris will be lucky to have them for inlaws. :wizard:

That was so great for your parents to pay for your engagement dinner! I have to thank Tinkerbelle_325 for the Conundrum recommendation too...that wine is excellent!

Congrats on your engagement! So sweet!

I got a little weepy when I read that your parents paid for your dinner. What a wonderful thing for them to do.

Great reviews! I can't wait to read more!
