RIP Jack
Your contribution was enormous. You caused us to think.

The man who played God will now have to answer to Him.

Well it's been nice knowing you guys, I think I'll be banned after that last comment! :lmao:

I had my dog put to sleep yesterday, I suppose I was playing God.

I was actually just thinking about him as a result of that and with respect to how peacefully my pup slipped away. Wish it could be so with people at the obvious end of their lives.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but until you have watched someone suffer in the end stages of cancer, you have no idea what Jack did for those people and their families.

In my brother's last hours, we were on our knees BEGGING God to please take him. He was throwing up feces, if that gives you an indication of how he was suffering.

I love animals, I really do. I have three cats, and they are truly a part of our family. But if you can't concede that there is a difference between human life and animal life regarding euthanasia, than I really don't want to be involved in this conversation, because it'll go nowhere.

I'm sorry for the loss of your dog.

So, what you're saying is it is humane to not allow an animal to suffer, but humans should have to suffer?

Because of Kevorkian, we have great hospice care and wonderful pallative care. Some doctors are no longer afraid to prescribe end of life comfort. Comforting and hastening the inevitable is humane. Life support of a dying person is cruel but some of us insist on it for our 'loved' ones. Keeping someone alive IS definitely playing God.

You are barking up the wrong tree (no pun intended)... It has been proven MANY a time here on the Dis that animals are up there with humans as part of the family. Good luck.

RIP, Dr. K. May you be enjoying the peace that you found for so many others.

RIP Jack.

I always wondered why he was charged/prosecuted for what he did. People should have the right to decide when they want to die.

Not sure if I agree with the things he did, but his intentions were good. He did not want people to suffer.

Sweetheart, with your approach - it's going nowhere for sure.

I'm so sorry for your loss and your brothers suffering. As I have gotten older and have seen more and more, I know there are worse things than death.

RIP Dr. Kevorkian

If I ever reach a stage where I or a loved one is suffering so horribly, I pray for a doctor like Jack to be there to help end the pain.

RIP

I'm So sorry for your loss, I know how hard that is.

And I totally agree with your statement.

I have witnessed much suffering in my years as anurse and can say without a doubt that there are worse things than dying.

My only problem with Dr.Kevorkian is that he started to believe his own notoriety and made himself a laughing stock. Had he remained focused on his message, I think he could have done a lot more good.

But, in the early part of his "notorious" period, he got a lot of people talking and thinking.

May he find the peace he tried so hard to allow others to have.

People do have the right to decide, what he was charged for was helping them commit suicide--which since he was not the one dying was look at as the same thing as murdering someone-thus the charges.
