I had my dog put to sleep yesterday, I suppose I was playing God.
I was actually just thinking about him as a result of that and with respect to how peacefully my pup slipped away. Wish it could be so with people at the obvious end of their lives.
I love animals, I really do. I have three cats, and they are truly a part of our family. But if you can't concede that there is a difference between human life and animal life regarding euthanasia, than I really don't want to be involved in this conversation, because it'll go nowhere.
I'm sorry for the loss of your dog.
You are barking up the wrong tree (no pun intended)... It has been proven MANY a time here on the Dis that animals are up there with humans as part of the family. Good luck.I love animals, I really do. I have three cats, and they are truly a part of our family. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but until you have watched someone suffer in the end stages of cancer, you have no idea what Jack did for those people and their families.
In my brother's last hours, we were on our knees BEGGING God to please take him. He was throwing up feces, if that gives you an indication of how he was suffering.
As I have gotten older and have seen more and more, I know there are worse things than death.Because of Kevorkian, we have great hospice care and wonderful pallative care. Some doctors are no longer afraid to prescribe end of life comfort. Comforting and hastening the inevitable is humane. Life support of a dying person is cruel but some of us insist on it for our 'loved' ones. Keeping someone alive IS definitely playing God.

RIP Jack.
I always wondered why he was charged/prosecuted for what he did. People should have the right to decide when they want to die.
If I ever reach a stage where I or a loved one is suffering so horribly, I pray for a doctor like Jack to be there to help end the pain.
RIP
